good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. this morning, from the investigators from the national transportation safety board are trying to figure out what caused an engine jet about to take off from florida. passengers on board the dynamic airways flight heard a loud bang and 110 passengers and crew members had to evacuate. 21 people injured and one seriously.

lauderdale. fu floyd cook has been killed in a shoot-out with kentucky police overnight. cook was pronounced dead at the scene in south central kentucky after being confronted by state troopers. police say cook was armed with a handgun and exchanged gunfire with officers. no officers were simprurinjured. cook had wounded a tennessee police officer at a traffic stop and opened fire on a kentucky officer. five months after a deadly shoot-out between rival biker gangs in texas, one has been charged. a grand jury is considering the case. this morning, officials in waco are trying to figure out who leaked surveillance video of the bloody gun battle. don champion is here with the story and the shocking pictures. >> reporter: even without sound, the video alone is terrifying. aired on cnn thursday, it shows members this biker club sitting and having drinks on a patio one moment. the next, dodging bullets and running for their lives. off-screen, a fight started with

members of the rival gang the ban detow crew. in the end the shoot-out at this twin peaks restaurant in waco, texas, killed nine people. >> those were not released to the media by the district attorney's office either. >> reporter: the video leaked as the grand jury continues weighing murder charges in the case. 177 bikers were arrested after the shooting and charged with engaging an organized crime. law enforcement officials have been ordered not to discuss the case. >> we are continuing to abide by the gag order and we will continue to do what that judge has asked us to do, which is not speak any further on the twin peaks matter. >> reporter: the associated press said they got the video along with other pieces of evidence last month. the atf reviewed thousands of pages related to the incident and concluded gunfire hit bikers

that day and not clear if any of those shots were fatal. in all, police recovered hundreds of weapons, including guns, knives, brass knuckles, and such at the restaurant after the shooting. >> don champion here in new york, thank you, don. beginning today, the latest move in an effort to reform the nation's justice system and reduce overcrowded prisons. about 6,000 nonviolent drug offenders will be released from custody. it's a result of a decision made a year ago by the u.s. sentencing commission. >> these are young people who made mistakes that aren't that different than the mistakes i made and the mistakes that a lot of you guys make. >> reporter: president obama has been pushing for criminal justice reform. one reason? u.s. prisons are bursting at the seams. federal prisons are more than 30% overcapacity according to a congressional oversight

committee. in 1980, the federal prison population was less than 25,000. today, that number is more than 200,000. over the past decades, more nonviolent offenders have been locked up than ever before. the change in federal sentencing guidelines applies to a limited number of inmates, most of those being released have already spent a short time in a halfway house or confined at home. about 850 will be released right from prison to a probation officer. the president said it's time to reduce or eliminate severe mandatory minute sentences for nonviolent offenders. >> we have to be able to distinguish between dangerous individuals who need to be incapacitated and incarcerated, versus young people who are in an environment in which they are adapting, but if given different

slowed with more than expected this summer sent stocks lower on wall street. the dow finished 23 points lower. the s&p lost just under a point. the nasdaq lost 21 points. rush card, prepaid debit card backed by russell simmons, the card suffered attack problems. the company set up a multimillion dollar fund to pay for late fees or any other financial setbacks suffered when

customers could not access their money. honda is recalling more than 300,000 of its mid-sized accords to fix air bag problems. the recall covers accords from 2008 to 2009 because of a faulty sensor. the side air bags can inflate if the door is slammed too hard. recall notices will start to go out in mid november. volvo made a name for itself in safety in its cars and now jumped on a new safety feature. a kangaroo detection device and aimed at volvo customers in australia where there are more than 20,000 car/kangaroo accidents every year. cameras and radar will detect the animals and automatically apply the brakes. not quite sure to make of this one. bus stop billboards that give massages. part of an ad campaign of kitkat in south america. 20 billboards were installed at bus stops.

the minneapolis star tribune reports on an arrest related to 26-year-old unsolved child abduction. daniel heinrich is in custody charged with child pornography and considered a person of interest in the 1989 disappearance of 11-year-old jacob wetterling. >> let me be very clear. the defendant was denied any involvement in the disappearance of jacob wetterling and is not charged at this time with any crime related to that disappearance. >> heinrich was first questioned about wetterling's disappearance in 1989. "the boston globe" reports on sentencing of owen labrie in the prepare school sexual assault case. he was given one year in prison for allegedly sexual assaulting a student in st. paul. his conviction says he must register as a sex rest of his

life. the des moines register reports on an iowa school bus driver charged with assaulting a student. >> hey! hey! >> stop! stop! >> a video shot by another student appeared to show 61 yearly robert scarborough struggling with oo special needs student on thursday. students yelled for the driver to stop. scarborough was put on administrative leave and faces several charges. the scranton times tribune reports on pennsylvania state police using shotguns to shoot that wayward surveillance balloon. it broke loose from a military facility in maryland on weesday. officials say it could take days

if you have not chosen a costume by now, every second that goes by without making decision means you're that much closer being the guy at the party trying to pass off your shower cap and bathrobe as a costume. it's not a costume. that sis unemployed. a washington state high school football coach is at the center of a prayer controversy and he sat out at a game last night. amy clancy of our seattle affiliate kiro has the latest. >> reporter: assistant coach joe kennedy was in the stands not on the sidelines after being suspended with pay on wednesday because he refused to imply with the school district's order to quit praying after games as he did at this recent game. the bremerton school district believes the prayers violate the

separation of church and state and could get the district in legal trouble. now, kennedy's lawyer is preparing to file a discrimination lawsuit on his behalf. meanwhile, students and parents have had enough of all the attention being paid to an issue and not the game itself. >> a lot of people aren't thinking about the football game. they are thinking about coach kennedy. i 100% support coach kennedy but i think the media is too much and blown it all out of proportion. >> it all needs to stop. not just the praying but the controversy. let people have freedom of choice what they want to do. >> reporter: this grandfather of a senior player also supported the coach until lawyers got involved. >> i understand what he is doing. and that is his right. but once the school district, if they have a policy, said stop, now the attention has gone away from the kids, especially the seniors. whether they agree or disagree, this is their night, not mr.
