one person was killed, another injured, during that shooting on eastbound i-80 near pinole valley road. kpix 5's anne makovec reports, police don't think it was random. >> reporter: i-80 in pinole was shut down for 6 hours overnight as officers investigated the second shooting to shut down the interstate in less than two weeks. at around 11:00 last night, a man was driving eastbound on 80 near the appian overcrossing when another car pulled up and someone started firing. >> it appears that the car had been shot through the driver's side multiple times. >> reporter: the driver later died at the hospital. a woman passenger was shot in the arm. the shooter is still on the loose. >> it was not a random act of violence. it appears that this vehicle and people inside the vehicle were targeted. >> reporter: meanwhile, the investigation continues into a shooting near i-80 on november 2. about 4 miles away from last night's shooting, a man was critically injured when someone shot up his car in san pablo,

bringing rush hour traffic to a standstill with two lanes closed for hours. there is no indication, though, that the two shootings are related. in pinole, anne makevoc, kpix 5. >> police say the victims were both east bay residents believed to be in their 30s. we now know the identities of the two people who died in a hostage standoff in san jose's cambrian area. the victim was 53-year-old yoland najera. she was shot to death inside her home on monday night. the man who police say was responsible also lived at the camden avenue home at one point. investigators are trying to figure out the chain of events that ended with officers killing the gunman in a shootout. police say the gunman was leonel acevedo and he started shooting at them when he came out of the house. one officer was wounded but that injury is minor. new at noon a 19-year-old was arrested early this morning for allegedly making terroristic threats at the university of missouri. police say 19-year-old hunter park used a social media app "yik yak" and said he would

>> there is a chill. but we have blue skies and fresh air. this is the cool air mass with the passage of monday's storm system. right now we have a beautiful view looking towards angel island and alcatraz and right now, our air temperatures are standing pretty much in the 50s rebounding nicely after bottoming out at 43 in san jose to 59 now. it's 60 in pleasanton after bottoming out at 34 degrees. temperatures to the north right now 60 in santa rosa after a morning low of 32 degrees. no frost advisory in effect for tonight. but you'll notice away from the bay our temperatures will still dip down into the mid-30s from santa rosa swinging around to napa and sonoma and then well into the eastern portion of our bay area at 38 degrees in livermore. closer you get to the bay water temperatures into the 40s. we have rain, it is back in the forecast. we'll pinpoint the day you should expect it, that's coming up later in this broadcast. oakland mayor libby schaaf in new york today to convince the nfl owners why the raiders should stay in oakland. she is making her pitch without

a deal in place for a new stadium, and she is not offering any public money and subsidizing it. instead she is using her 45 minutes to talk about oakland's appeal for pro football and wants to make improvements to the area around the coliseum too. >> what we have to sell right now is an incredible market. could be in the range of $100 million. not taking existing city money away, just using the future revenues generated by a new project. >> schaaf says she wants to attract people from all over the bay area. plans include upgrading the coliseum bart station. medical marijuana is coming to marin. county supervisors voted yesterday to allow dispensaries in unincorporated areas which could be a huge economic boost. statewide, medical marijuana generates up to $105,000 in sales tax. like other bay area counties,

the various cities in marin can still ban dispensaries. president obama placing a we at the tomb of the unknown soldier during a veterans day ceremony at the arlington national cemetery. the president asked the nation to keep vets in their thoughts. >> whether you served proudly in the army, navy, air force, marines or coast guard, you're part of an unbroken chain of patriots who have served this country with honor through the life of our nation. >> president obama also announced plans to boost funding for the department of veterans affair. and in san jose, city liters are vowing to help homeless vets. kpix 5 reporter kiet do explains what they plan to do. >> reporter: a bold ambitious plan to try to end homelessness among veterans here in santa clara county launches today and it is called, all the way home. the goal is to try to find homes for the estimated 700 homeless vets here in the county. many of them already have housing vouchers in their hands

but cannot find an opening so one. key components of the campaign is -- so one of the key components of the campaign is $5 million to have landlords make improvements and affordable housing. >> we are here to end veterans homelessness by 2018 in this valley. >> reporter: starting tomorrow, u.s. military veterans in california will be able to apply for special driver's licenses. the dmv says the word veteran will appear on the licenses allowing vets to show proof of military service without having to carry all that paperwork around. veterans will need to get their military discharge certificates, bring them to a cal vet office to get a veterans status verification form and bring that form to the dmv. >> that will enable them to easily and officially identify themselves as a veteran. before that you had to produce a documents that is sometimes hard to find, or anyone can claim they are a veteran. >> reporter: the cost of the special license is $5.

in downtown san jose, kiet do, kpix 5. legendary san francisco burlesque performer carole doda has died. she was born in sonoma county and grew up in san francisco. she got her start performing topless at the condor club in the north beach in the 1960s. she later was a bay area tv host and owned a local lingerie boutique. she was 78. an elderly north bay couple has been found safe. sam and maria walkos were found in paso robles last night in business is. they told police they wanted -- in san luis obispo. they told police they wanted to take a little vacation and planned to go home today. a motorist recognized them when they asked for directions. republicans hit the ground running hours after tuesday's debate. a look back at the issues they weighed in on. >> plus, a new study shows more california drivers are plugging into electric cars.

workers. they were among new at noon, a commercial real estate firm in south florida is mourning the loss of seven coworkers. they were among the nine people killed in a small jet crash yesterday in ohio. investigators are looking to see what happened causing the jet to crash and explode. the pilot and copilot died in the accident. one person is dead and as many as 11 others injured in a powerful house explosion in northern new jersey. 13 people were inside the home at the time. firefighters believe another five people may still be trapped inside the home. officials believe it was caused by a natural gas explosion, but they are not sure what set off the blast.

republican presidential hopefuls during it out -- duking it out last night in the fourth debate. then they went right back on the campaign trail. craig boswell is in washington with who came out on top. >> reporter: the top republican presidential candidates were back on the road and back to attacking their opponents just hours after the latest gop debate. >> you know, jeb as you know is a big "common core" person. i don't even like to bring up his name because honestly -- >> i'm not happy about that. >> reporter: donald trump took questions from the crowd in new hampshire over breakfast. >> i want to thank you for energizing the nomination process on the republican side. >> reporter: dr. ben carson was in virginia speaking to students at liberty university. >> we must be willing to stand up for what we believe in. >> reporter: the debate itself was more tame than previous events, especially the cnbc debate two weeks ago which was widely criticized. >> this was a good substantive debate. we talked about issues and enjoyed that. i'm glad we had one and i hope all the other ones will be like that. immigration was the issue

anheuser-busch has bought miller. the $107 billion deal combines the world's two largest brewers of beer. they will make almost a third of beer consumed in the world. >> that's a lot of beer. let's take a look at the big board on wall street today on this midweek. it's veterans day. it's a bit of a holiday. and it's off a bit but in the a lot down about 37. executives from the e- commerce company alibaba rang the opening bell today at the new york stock exchange. the company reported a whopping $14.3 billion in sales during china's singles day celebration. it's held every year on november 11 in china. in today's jobs report, jill schlesinger looks at some of the best paying jobs in america. reporter: very few people are going to pull in the salary of a superstar athlete, hollywood movie star or fortune 500 ceo. so what's the best paying job that an average person can land? according to data, anesthesiologists have the best paying jobs in america. nationally the specialized doctors earn $246,320 a year.
