details of the under water implosion. anne? >> reporter: this implosion is set for 7:00 tomorrow morning. what's left of the tower right now is mainly under water. but you can see here some of the prep work behind me. equipment in place for an implosion under the bay. >> it is a highly orchestrated operation it. >> reporter: will only take 6 seconds to take down tower e3 of the old eastern span of the bay bridge with a "blast mat" thrown over the top and a bubble curtain all the way around on the bay floor. small charges weighing between 20 and 35 pounds will destroy the five-story, 20 million- pound tower and cause it to implode on itself into holes that already exist. >> gravity will take care of itself once the charges are detonated. >> reporter: before that, the bay bridge and its bike path will be closed for between 10 and 25 minutes sometime between 6:45 and 7:15 a.m. >> from what we're told,

there's going to be a sound concussion from the implosion itself, and we just don't want any drivers startled as they're driving. >> reporter: boats will be posted at specified distances in the bay monitoring port traffic and watching wildlife to keep them away from the detonation. >> we are absolutely committed to ensuring that when this implosion happens, we have impacted the environment to the least point possible. >> reporter: and if all goes well this weekend, a similar implosion could be done on the remaining piers. there's not going to be a lot to see above the water line but caltrans is going to live stream the implosion on its website. by the way, if conditions aren't exactly right at 7 a.m. tomorrow morning, there's another window of opportunity at 1 p.m. live on treasure island, anne makovec, kpix 5. >> bart will briefly hold transbay trains at embarcadero and west oakland stations during the implosion.

more traffic trouble this weekend. van ness avenue is closed between geary boulevard and post street. it was shut down this morning and won't re-open until late sunday night. construction crews are working on a tunnel between a hospital and a medical office. liza battalones breaks down what drivers should watch out for this weekend. >> reporter: getting around san francisco is going to be tough this weekend. we have several significant closures all of them related to construction. the biggest one, 4th and king, because of that massive central subway project. it will be shut down until saturday at 11:59 p.m. muni service in the area will be rerouted. another major closure, van ness shut down in both directions between geary and post until late sunday night. avoid the area if you can. but some alternates including franklin, goff and polk. the bay bridge will be shut down with a rolling closure starting at 6:45 a.m. because of the scheduled demolition of the old section of the bay bridge.

expect and how these showers are going to impact your sunday coming up in a few minutes. thank you. a suspected car thief is in jail this morning after a wild chase and shooting in the east bay. it happened overnight. the car involved was riddled with bullet holes and was towed away. alameda county deputies chased the man to a dead end where they say he drove towards them and that's when they opened fire. >> i was watching tv and i heard -- i live on that side so it was, like, i really heard a lot of, like, four to five gunshots, so then i heard the cops coming in, the sheriff and everything, i was, like, oh, wow. >> you drive a car at law enforcement, there's a very good chance you're going to get shot at. >> that driver was arrested and a female passenger questioned. she was released. nobody was injured. a deadly police shooting in san francisco will be the subject of a town hall meeting today. officers shot and killed 25- year-old javier lopez garcia

after he fired at st. luke's hospital from the top of a construction elevator. a source told kpix 5's joe vazquez garcia told a worker at the site now i'm going to die. no one on the ground was hurt. investigators say this surveillance video shows lopez garcia stealing a shotgun from a big 5 sporting goods store in san bruno. they say he left the store and headed to san francisco. his motive is still unknown. a prisoner who eluded police and slipped way last month from the santa clara county jail is back in prison. kiet do on the dramatic series of events that led to his surrender. >> reporter: it took weeks of police work, but this morning, nghounoi neang is back in jail. he is a known gang member wanted for assault with a deadly weapon, several burglaries and an embarrassing escape. you may recognize him because just last month, he got away from a pair of bail bondsmen as they were escorting him to the lobby of the county jail with

his handcuffs still on. chopper 5 was above the east san jose house when two people walked out with hands up. our cameras on the ground caught police driving someone away. >> love you, brother! >> reporter: they yelled we love you, brother. the special ops team tracked him down and surrounded the house but he wouldn't come out. they used negotiating tactics and flash-bang grenades to get him out. >> can you speak to this? >> again, that was a situation that occurred -- i mean, you know, what -- i think we were all kind of curious, you know, on how this was going to, um, unfold here today but again, um, we did get a serious criminal off the street. >> reporter: back in august this surveillance video went viral when police say a woman carrying a guitar acted as a lookout while neang made his way in through the back door. kiet do, kpix 5. >> police also arrested some of the other occupants of the home on unrelated charges. fairfield police have recovered a half dozen weapons during a probation check inside a home in the 1300 block of

kansas street. they found guns and drugs. a man was arrested on several charges. two of the firearms had been stolen. a former san jose resident is due in court today charged with selling fake passes to disneyland. authorities say 22-year-old jennifer cardema defrauded more than a dozen people out of more than $100,000. they say she pretended to be a disney employee, created a fake linkedin page and had business cards with mickey mouse. she is accused of offering fake jobs to local tech companies. a woman who was arrested last week in connection to two bank robberies in san jose also helped rob a los gatos jewelry store last month, according to police. they believe 22-year-old yvonne roland was part of a group that did a robbery october 16. three other people were arrested in connection to it. an inflatable dam in the east bay is being repaired. this is chopper 5 above the project to restore the barrier

they have been ordered to pay his wife retroactively with interest. the pentagon is working to confirm if a u.s. air strike has killed jihadi john one of the most recognizable figures within isis. cbs reporter jonathan vigliotti on his past. >> reporter: a u.s. official tells cbs news they are almost certain a u.s. strike killed isis terrorist mohammed emwazi. the pentagon says a drone was tracking him since wednesday waiting for a clear shot. a missile was fired thursday night as emwazi entered a vehicle in raqqa syria. britain's prime minister praised the u.s. mission. >> he was intent on murdering many more people. >> reporter: emwazi is responsible for beheading at least 7 hostages including american journalist james foley and steven sotloff and american aide worker peter kassig in syria in 2014. the gruesome videos he appeared in presented the world with a

cats from a popular pet- friendly cafe died after contracting a rare virus knn as f-i-p.... here to talk a little bit more abou pet expert, dr. this week we learned several cats from a popular pet- friendly cafe died after contracting a rare virus called fip. here to talk about it is dr. jill chaselong with christmas, the most mellow cat i have met. >> unlike cubby who was restless last week. >> let's talk about feline infectious peritonitis. >> it's my least favorite disease that cats get. i don't think any veterinarian likes it. it's caused by the coronavirus. fip is uniformly lethal. we don't have any good way to test for it. we have some tests that give us

the sense of they might have it. we call it a rule-out disease. if the pet is sick, call if you have any change in the pets at aller we basically try to rule out everything and if we find they don't have metabolic or bacterial infection or intestinal disease or whatever, then fip becomes very high on our list. some of the symptoms can be that they are very lethargic, don't want to eat. if they have the wet form they will have an abdomen that fills up with fluid or have trouble breathing if the fluid is in the chest. we are not exactly sure 100% how it's transmitted but it's definitely through the feces and so there's some thought that contamination through litter and other fecal matter could be part of it. >> older cats, younger cats? >> i was just going to say. kittens are much more susceptible and young cats than older cats but they are al sess sent i believe. >> is it rare? >> no. i don't see a lot of it but we see it in a lot of feral cats
