attacks in paris. french security forces raided an apartment building overnight where it's believed isis militants were living. authorities say the terrorists there were plotting a new wave of attacks. two terrorist suspects were killed and seven arrested. jonathan vigliotti reports that police may be getting closer to finding the mastermind behind the horrific attacks. >> reporter: heavy gunfire and explosions rocked the paris suburb. s.w.a.t. teams hit an apartment building looking for the mastermind of the terror attacks. >> i heard the -- some explosions, four or five explosions and then i opened the door and i heard gunshots, many, many gunshots. >> reporter: telephone surveillance and eyewitness accounts led police to believe that abdelhamid abaaoud may be hiding in the building. seven people were arrested but they haven't said whether they caught him. two people were killed during the shootout that lasted for hours including a woman who blew herself up with a suicide

vest. residents were jolted awake. this man says his son was screaming as he hid under the bed. saint-denis is a poor suburb of paris with a large muslim community. it's also near the national soccer stadium one of six sites terrorists targeted friday night. french president francois hollande praised the bravery of the security forces and said his nation is at war against terrorism. french police have conducted more than 400 searches since sunday and seized dozens of weapons. in paris, mourners are still crowding makeshift memorials to pay tribute to the victims. >> definitely a feeling that things aren't quite the same and i think it's going to take time. >> reporter: the french government now says all 129 people killed in friday's terror attacks have been identified. jonathan vigliotti, cbs news, saint-denis, france. news that a police dog was killed during the overnight raid outside paris is now trending on social media.

french police announced the death of diesel a 7-year-old belgium dog via twitter. the hashtag "i am dog" began trending shortly after. two flights heading from the united states to paris were diverted because of anonymous bomb threats. an air france flight from l.a.x. landed in salt lake city. at the same time another air france flight from the washington dulles diverted to halifax nova scotia. word of an emergency came right after dinner. >> an announcement was made over the loudspeaker that we would be making an emergency landing, that the flight attendants were trained for situations such as this. and then i loaded the flight tracker on the back of head rest, the screen in front of me, and saw we had made a sharp right turn and were only at 10,000 feet so we were descending. >> both planes were given the "all clear" after they were searched overnight. the white house still plans to bring 10,000 syrian refugees

to the united states despite strong opposition by republicans. president obama believes the u.s. can weed out any migrants posing' threat before they enter the country. republicans in congress have introduced new legislation to slow the migration. house democrats were quick to criticize the bill. >> in the last two years, we have only admitted about 1800 refugees from syria. that process takes a year and a half to two years to complete the vetting. it's very thorough. >> president obama called the bill offensive and said lawmakers have nothing to fear from the people who have been driven out of their homes by isis. the fbi is now helping investigate a case of vandalism in san francisco at the french- american international school. an islamic symbol was spray- painted on a playground shortly after the attacks in france. >> i used to live in paris. we are horrified by what happened. so i don't understand that someone did that. i can't imagine that. >> the graffiti was discovered

yesterday morning. investigators are seeking a suspect. they are looking into whether this can be classified as a hate crime public safety officials in san francisco are getting ready to for super bowl 50 and there's definitely heighten concerns following the attacks in paris. kpix 5's anne makovec joins us live with more on plans to keep a large potential target safe. >> reporter: 70 days from now this plaza here behind me justin herman plaza will look wildly different. and emergency workers are planning now to make sure it is as safe as possible. >> we are planning for every eventuality. >> reporter: they call it a super scrimmage. public safety officials and planners on the state local and federal levels getting ready for super bowl 50. >> if we can layer security, then whoever would think of doing something will go another way. >> reporter: super bowl city opens in 70 days at the foot of market and san francisco's

population of around 850,000 could triple. we have been planning for months. we plan for the worst and hope for the best. >> reporter: after friday's attack in paris, everyone is on high alert. >> it's on everyone's mind. i think that's very natural. >> reporter: the attacks put new urgency on a security drill at levi's stadium yesterday. helicopters, bomb squats and military teams preparing for an array of possibilities. but it's the everyday citizen who might stop a threat before it comes to fruition. >> no substituted for everybody telling us -- no substitute for everybody telling us what they see so we can prevent terrorism. >> reporter: emergency planners are working with the private sector to be sure they have plenty of vantage point over the center of the action. live in san francisco anne makevoc, kpix 5. plans to tear out son muni transit wires to make room for san francisco's super bowl city have been shelved. the super bowl 50 host committee wanted to remove the lines to make room for events

on market street. the idea drew outrage from muni riders and transit advocates. planners now say they can work around the lines and the wires will stay up. a high-speed chp chase turned deadly on 280 this morning. kiet do found out why officers were chasing the car. >> reporter: the chp spent much of the morning cleaning up after a wild chase that stretched for nearly 80 miles starting in the southern part of santa clara county ending up in west san jose. in gilroy it was going 100 miles an hour. the cops tried to pull it over but the driver fled. they went from gilroy on 101 snaked all over the south bay using 880, 237, 85, 17, and finally interstate 280. the car exited at winchester in san jose, but lost control on moorpark avenue, the driver died at the hospital. the female passenger survived.

towards the end of the chase the chp crewser hit a sign post, slammed into the windshield and two officers suffered minor cuts to their hands. the white honda turned out to be stolen out of los banos. sergeant cox says they maintained the chase because the driver was endangering the public reaching speeds up to 130 miles an hour. >> this drive was driving at a high rate of speed and he was intentionally it appears trying to ram other vehicles. traffic was very light. it was a dangerous driver and needed to be removed from the road. >> reporter: despite long distance this chase covered, it didn't block any traffic on any major freeways. only shutting down moorpark avenue for a short time during the morning commute. in west san jose, kiet do, kpix 5. new at noon, police say a garage fire in redwood city is causing power outages near roosevelt elementary school. that fire broke out around 5:00 this morning on euclid avenue. police say they cut power to avoid further damage. no word on what caused the early-morning fire. pg&e is in the hot seat this afternoon.

they will face tough questions as to whether their power lines were responsible for deadly wildfires. state senator jerry hill called for today's hearing but cal fire state regulators and officials, he wants to know if utilities have learned from their mistakes in 2007 when neglected power lines caused a lot of fires. >> probably a third of them in some cases or more are caused by power lines that because of the wind they fall or the trees have not been trimmed around, the brush is to at least to it and they short, they -- the brush is too close to it and they short and a spark ignites the fire. >> investigators determined a downed power line caused the devastating "butte fire" that burned over 70,000 acres. up next, surveillance cameras are rolling as an out- of-control bus crashes in union square. how that driver's decision saved lives. >> from the kpix 5 weather center, good afternoon, everybody. sure! we have blue skies in some parts of the bay area. but we have the return of a particular weather element that you need to know about. ,,

employees at a cell phone store in houston got the scare of a lifetime! take a look at this car shattering the glass window of the building yesterday. it all happened at a mobile store. the impact of the crash tossed display cases and furniture. the driver reported brake problems. no one was hurt. and we are getting our first look at newly released surveillance video of a tour bus careening out of control and crashing in san francisco. construction debris scattered as the bus raced down the street. friday's crash left 20 people injured including the bus driver kenneth malvar. he had driven with the company city sightseeing since 2005.

his attorney said an air pressure buzzer went off on the double-decker bus. >> he heard a loud bang from under the bus somewhere. the bus began to accelerate. he stepped on the gas and it was just no response. it wasn't like it was stuck. it was just floppy. the brake, the same thing, no brakes whatsoever. >> the attorney says the emergency brake didn't work and the bus kept speeding uncontrolled until malvar made a decision to hit the scaffolding to stop. following campaign 2016, a new poll shows donald trump has a strong lead in new hampshire. the wbur poll shows 2 2% of likely new hampshire gop voters back mr. trump. marco rubio and ben carson is tied for second at 11% a two point gain for rubio, 4 point loss for carson. a poll shows hillary clinton may have a mountain to climb in colorado. she is trailing all three of the top republican candidates in head to head matchups.

she trails rubio and carson by 14 points. colorado is seen as key swing state in next year's presidential election. ski resorts in the sierra and across the nation are telling visitors, put away your drones. most major resorts have banned the recreational use of drones on their property. they say one of the biggest potential hazards is to people on chair lifts. the lift riders are up in the air and so are the drones making for a dangerous combination. >> a lot of the concern with drones nowadays is pilots. how does a pilot know how to navigate and steer his drone? so that's really a variable we can't have on the ski resort. >> however, there is one exception. drones can be used to search for missing skiers or snowboarders but they have to be operated by professionals. why would you want to take a drone while you're skiing? >> i don't know. you want to focus on the snow, roberta. >> that's what i have to do. let's focus in on this. our weather watcher. right now checking in with us at this lunchtime at 64 degrees to the north, 64 to the south and smack in between, 60s and 70s. 73 on this autumn day. thank you for checking in. lots of sunshine there. take a look at this. wow, the fog has returned to the immediate seashore. a bit of a thin layer. nevertheless, we have high humidity, high dew points, a lack of a wind. but i'm starting to see the wind pick up. winds are blowing out of the northwest up to 8 miles per hour so that should scour out most of the fog along the immediate seashore. 70 at this hour in the santa rosa area. so we have a gentle breeze in pleasanton, west-northwest at 4. 12-mile-per-hour winds in san rafael. calm winds in santa rosa napa and fairfield. that's dipping down this morning into the upper 30s. so we have that fog that should

scrub out. mild weather through saturday. rain chances increase on tuesday evening. we have a powerful area of low pressure to the north of the bay area. you can see the tail end of it here skimming up against the northwestern section of the state of california producing a little bit of light rainfall. we have this huge dome of high pressure to keep deflecting that storm well to the north. we are under that influence of high pressure so we will remain dry. it's 48 going up to 51 in the high sierra. we now have temperatures in the mid-50s going up to 6 of 3 in monterey, 66 in stockton and in sacramento. okay, by the time the sun goes down at 4:56, we'll have experienced 10 hours and about 3 minutes of daylight hours. and that allows the temperatures to warm into the 60s and low 70s. the breezy winds northwest 10 to 20 miles per hour this afternoon, we'll dip down to 40 to 51 tomorrow night, then 62 to 71. notice the warmest day this week on friday, followed by increasing cloud cover on monday, especially by tuesday

and right now computer models are suggesting rain beginning tuesday evening into wednesday. maybe even spotty into thanksgiving. but only about three-quarters inch. we'll keep you posted. >> the busiest travel day of the year. >> it could be one of the sloppiest. >> oh-oh. okay, roberta. >> keep our eyes peeled. okay, roberta. the city of pleasanton is easing up on water wasters. at least for now. the city council agreed yesterday to call off its excessive use penalties for homes and businesses that didn't make the 25% cuts. city water managers say the fines are needed because the city -- aren't needed because the city saved 38% water use this year. they will revisit the issue in march. if you get a new ultra hd tv for christmas this year, you might see your power bill go up. they candies play four times the resolution of hi-def displays but use 30% more power on average.

this year. their chances of landing a job after graduation are looking up. the employment outlook for new grads has been pretty ugly recently but according to a new survey from the collegiate employment research institute at the university of michigan, hiring will likely increase by 15% next year. there appear to be two big factors driving employment, company growth and employee turnover. some areas are prime to hire more than others. the construction industry, which dried up during the recession, is looking to up hiring of grads by 19%. pre-k and k through 12 teachers are in demand, hiring projections for the field brighter than they have been in a decade. other hot fields include financial and insurance services, aerospace automotive and defense-related industries, truck transportation, and internet accounting and computer services. finally, the survey reports that nonprofits, which are the mainstay of college hiring for much of the past 15 years, will continue to grow. but thanks to increased competition from other industries, hiring will only climb 5% in 2016. i'm jill schlesinger for kpix 5. ,, ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
