security scare stops air tr for passengers at l-a-x... your realtime captioner is linda marie macdonald. nerves are on edge as another security scare stops air travel for passengers at l.a.x. and another flight returning right now to sfo. good afternoon, everyone. i'm frank mallicoat. >> i'm michelle griego. breaking right now, united airlines flight headed for hawaii has been diverted back

to san francisco. the boeing 757 departed sfo just before 9 a.m. and was scheduled to land in sky lua this afternoon. about two hours into flight 1721, the plane experienced a cabin cooling issue and headed back. the plane appears to be in a holding pattern before landing at sfo. and in los angeles, a man disguised as a pilot caused a security scare at l.a.x. this morning. it happened around 6:00 near a jetblue plane headed for new york. an l.a.x. employee said he spoke to a man in the boarding area dressed as a pilot. airport officials became alarmed when they realized none of the crew had boarded the plane yet. security officials stopped take- off and searched the plane and luggage. the plane was released less than an hour ago. now for the very latest on the paris attacks. new surveillance video obtained by the "daily mail" shows the chaos outside a restaurant. terrorists can be seen at the

top and patrons diving amid bullets and glass. there is an image referred to as lucky. the gunman appears to be aiming at her at point-blank range but the weapon jams. you can see here, she eventually flees. reporter jonathan vigliotti has the latest on the investigation and a major breakthrough. >> reporter: the french prosecutor now says the mastermind of the paris terror attacks was killed in yesterday's raid in saint- denis. fingerprints were used to identify abdelhamid abaaoud body which was riddled with bullets. >> france is very sad at what happened. >> reporter: prosecutors also say the woman who blew herself up when the raid started was abaaoud'scousin. themanhuntcontinuesfortheattack erswhogotathe manhunt continues for the attackers who got away. you can see people running for

their lives in a hail of bullets. the fear of another attack has some parisians avoiding crowded places. there's more traffic on the streets as people stay away from the subway. >> reporter: when we are all gathered in a small place it's an easy target this man said. we worry someone are come again and attack us. france's prime minister warned legislators today the next attack could be with chemical or biological weapons. he wants to extend the nation's state of emergency three months giving security forces the power to search and detain suspects without a warrant. jonathan vigliotti, cbs news, paris. and french military authorities say they have destroyed 35 "islamic state" targets in syria and dropped bombs on isis command centers. the attacks in paris have sparked a contentious debate over u.s. acceptance of syrian refugees. the house will vote on a bill

today that would make it extremely difficult for refugees to enter the united states. each refugee would be subject to a comprehensive screening by the fbi. republicans say the bill, which was written after the attacks, is a matter of national security. >> you have isis claiming they are going to exploit this refugee crisis to infiltrate america. i take them at their word. >> france still plans to resettle 30,000 syrian refugees the same number it committed to before the attacks. new at noon napa county police have found the body of a missing jet skier. boats and helicopters scoured the area near brazos bridge last night looking for the missing woman. around 8 a.m., they discovered her body with severe head trauma. police say they may know what happened. >> there was major damage to the jet ski. early indications might suggest that maybe she collided with the brazos bridge itself. >> police identify the woman as

kelly may of napa. new at noon, ex-subway spokesman jeremy fogel is going to prison. this morning he was sentencedded to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to child pornography and sex crime charges. the charges came after a july raid on his indianapolis home. subway quickly dropped him, who is the face of the company for over a decade. when asked if he understood the punishment he faces, he said yes, your honor, i do. also new at noon three drifters accused of two bay area killings pleaded not guilty at a morning arraignment. sean angold, morrison lampley and lila alligood are accusedded of ranking and killing a hike -- accused of robbing and killing a hiker near fairfax and killing a jogger in golden gate park in october. the gun used in the murders was stolen from a car from san francisco's fisherman's wharf. anda thief is accused of knocking an el cerrito high school student to the ground

and stealing her cell phone. once the woman got away she took a picture of herself which was found on the victim's cloud storage account. police hope someone recognizes her and turns her in. >> reporter: a san jose police cadet could face discipline after his gun was stolen from his car. it happened last month while he dined at benihana's restaurant in cupertino. the gun case and other materials were later discovered by police in redwood city. but the gun was never found. this is the latest incident involving a stolen firearm connected to local law enforcement. but as kpix 5's anne makovec reports, there's a new plan aimed at preventing guns from getting into the wrong hands. >> reporter: the supervisors proposing this measure say it seems like common sense. but judging from statistics, there are a lot of people who do not lock their guns in their vehicles. it's being discussed at a committee meeting at 3 p.m. >> that one gun off the streets can save a life.

>> reporter: this new proposal would require anyone leaving' gun unattended in a parked vehicle to keep it in a trunk or a locked box. it was first introduced in september and was to apply only to off duty law enforcement officers. this amendment would apply to anyone in san francisco. >> we want everyone storing a gun in a vehicle to be crystal clear about the requirements. >> reporter: the legislation follows several high-profile gun thefts from cars around the bay area including the gun that was used in a killing of kate steinle on pier 14. it had been stolen from the car of a federal bureau of land management ranger in san francisco four days earlier. the law center to prevent gun violence says over 10,000 guns were stolen in california in 2012. >> that's likely a gross underestimate because there's no law requiring californians to report their stolen guns. >> reporter: but today's rally in support of the new measure went beyond the letter of the

ducking for cover. we're ming new video of that tour bus crash in union square. barriers flying and pedestrians ducking for cover. we are learning the driver is blaming brake failure. he says the air pressure warning buzzer went off, then there was a bang and the bus started to accelerate. he said the emergency brake didn't hurt. 20 people were hurt in the crash last week. san francisco's mayor wants the state to investigate allegations that the tour bus company ignored safety regulations. and the ntsb is looking into what caused a helicopter to crash and burn in southern california. the two men on board died when the chopper went out of control while landing at an airfield in carlsbad yesterday afternoon. witnesses say the helicopter spun wildly lost its tail then overturned and erupted in flames. investigators are looking into whether the cause was mechanical failure or pilot error.

no random attack, that's what investigators are saying about an lapd officer gunned down in the parking lot of downey police headquarters. officer ricardo galvez was shot to death while leaving work late last night. another officer heard the shots and followed two suspects who jumped into a car and got away. police cleared out several apartment buildings in the montebello area and a number of people were taken into custody. a courtroom confrontation caught on camera. it shows a bailiff tackling california deputy attorney general jenny mariah kelly. the bailiff says kelly was yelling at the defense attorney and refused to tone it down. then resisted when he tried to escort her out. kelly was arrested for resisting an officer. just over a week until black friday and already the deals are popping up online. reporter danielle nottingham on why that's that's good news for people who shop on the job. >> reporter: it can be hard to resist a good deal online,

especially when you're working. >> sometimes after lunch, i'll take a little extra time from my eating time and go online and get some shopping done. >> reporter: a new survey from the robert haas staffing agency found 25% of companies allow unrestricted access to shopping sites up 10 first from 2012. another 48% of businesses allow it but monitor workers for excessive use. >> a lot of companies and employers have just accepted rather than trying to prevent it, let's accept it within reason and let's have a process around it so we can still get work done during the holiday season. >> reporter: about 25% of workers admitted their bosses caught them redhanded but only 15% of them were reprimanded for shopping on the clock. >> just scrolling along then amazon prime calls to me. [ laughter ] >> reporter: are you worried about getting caught? >> no. [ laughter ] >> because everybody does it. >> reporter: and one in five employees actually feels more productive because they don't have to leave the office to shop. >> you can truly make your

purchase, schedule delivery and get right back to work in a more orderly fashion versus again getting stuck in the mall. >> reporter: but not everyone is free to bargain hunt online just yet. a quarter of the companies surveyed still block online access to shopping sites completely. danielle nottingham, cbs news, los angeles. >> i'm guilty of it. most companies that allow shopping sites monitor employees for excessive use. 28% of employees surveyed believe their coworkers are not pulling their weight when they shop on company time. do you believe that, from a inning? >> did you just buy a pair of shoes? >> no. >> i think you did! and wednesday where you see that clear slot where we have the high pressure ridge building into the state of california. that's keeping our air mass warmer today and also drying it out while we have precipitation well to the north of us. it's diverting that storm track well to the north. but exciting things going on. we are persistent as far as our weather pattern is concerned through sunday but an area of low pressure is going to drop out of the gulf of alaska and as it does so a lot of cold air is associated with it. snow in tahoe by thanksgiving. we'll see rain perhaps a half inch maybe .75" on wednesday, the big travel day. but today 65 at the state capital where currently it's 60. it's also 60 in monterey, 59 fresno and going up to 56 degrees after being 20 in the high sierra. sunset tonight at 4:56. we will have 10 hours and one minute of daylight hours. enjoy each and every one of those minutes. temperatures today in the 60s and 70s. 73 degrees in santa rosa.

week's jefferson award winner. it's not okay that people don't have safe places to spend the night. >> reporter: marnie webb is trying to get people to talk about something few want to discuss. >> we don't go to work the next day and say oh, i tried to get housing last night because my spouse beats me. how is version one rollout? >> the ceo of caravan studios a division of san francisco nonprofit tech soup came up with the idea of helping survivors of domestic violence after her mother-in-law told her about a woman who needed a safe place to stay. >> and in the course of telling me this story she said, ah, i would pay for a hotel room for that girl if i could. and i thought, wait a second. [ laughter ] >> hm. how can we put this together? >> reporter: what she and her team put together is an app called "safenight." it connects people who are trying to escape violent situations with shelters in the area that might be able to help. but quite often the shelters themselves are full so the avalanche goes a step further and can send a notification to people who have downloaded the app asking for donations to pay for a hotel room. >> an agency has an urgent need for a bed.

>> the last thing that we ever want is to tell them is we don't have a safe place for you to she. -- for your to sleep. >> cori manthorne with cora, community overcoming relationship abuse ,in san mateo says their 24-hour hotline receives more than 1,000 requests for shelter every year. cora can only fill 200 requests at its safe houses so to have hotel rooms as an option? >> in that case, we say, we have this hotel available for you. we have built relationships with hotels and we can put a family into a hotel room immediately so there are immediate results for their safety. >> reporter: cori thinks the app is life-saving. marnie thinks it helps give true meaning to life. >> if we can help with that, that is --it's tremendous to be in the position to be able to do that. >> so the community wants to help. >> reporter: so for helping connect domestic violence service groups with those in need of safe shelter, this week's jefferson award in the bay area goes to marnie webb. allen martin, kpix 5.
