>> tonight, a freak accident kills a woman walking her dog and sends this pickup truck crashing into a lake. good evening >> the crash happened this afternoon near judgeur drive. kpix 5 emily turner is there with what happened. emily? >> reporter: within the last five minutes, we want to let you know that the boulevard has finally reopened but it was shut down for the better part of the day because of the the terrible. a woman in her 40s hit and killed a woman walking her dog. she was out in the middle of the day taking her dog for a walk. the truck hit the curb and flew into the water. the driver is fine. the 40-year-old driver has a few minor injuries. that woman was killed. she was a 65-year-old woman. the dog survived. she was walking with a friend of hers who was just a few steps behind her. the woman saw it all as well as

several people who were around this area at the time. >> he just hit the curb, at the same speed, no brakes. it was, like, severe, like hit. >> reporter: police are still trying to figure out exactly what happened and how this happened. at this point, though. they say that they don't believe that the woman, the driver who killed that woman walking her dog, they don't believe that she was under the influence at this point. we'll stay on top of this story and bring you the very latest as we get it. also tonight, two people are recovering after a nasty crash on skyline boulevard. happened this morning. two cars were involved. one ended up rolling off a cliff and hitting a tree. it took rescue crews about 20 minutes to free that driver. both drivers, though, were

taken to the hospital, both expected to be okay. collin kaepernick is out for the rest of the year, quite possibly done with the 49ers. he opted to have season-ending surgery. he apparently injured it in week 44 against green bay. he got better but now it's worse. the team has to figure out whether they want to keep him, trade him, or sign him. kaepernick was drafted in 2009, taking over for alex smith. he led the 49ers to the super bowl. the team won't have to pay him anything after this season if they cut him as long as he is healthy enough to pass a physical. we will have reaction to today's injury announcement ahead in sport. latest now on the terror threat in europe.

police and soldiers are on guard across brussels because of a possible paris-style attack in the capital. >> we are talking about possible threat, people with weapons, several places at the same time. >> one person from the paris attack is still on the run. police arrested him on the belgium border but then they let him go. >> you can see the police officers hyped me. they have been looking into every passing vehicle with flashlights trying to get an identity check on the driver and passenger, even the public transports. there is a sense heightened security here. >> the security -- one person was taken into custody in a suburb of brussels. >> u.s. security national admit

all but impossible for syrian refugees to settle here sail through the house. president obama has threaten add veto. oakland has the largest base of syrian refugees. at least 16 have settled there. governor brown said that he would welcome more as long as they are vetted by the feds. and a new push is on the rise to keep chain stores from setting up shop in san carlos. >> sonia apparel has called san carlos home for 25 years. but the zone otheris worried that chain stores could close big businesses. >> they can go to the mall. >> reporter: the chain stores are already winning here. 22 of those but only 11.

kpix 5. >> san carlos will hold a public hearing at 7:00 on city hall. palo alto passed an ordinance. mark zuckerberg's wife is about to give birth but that's not what brought the ceo of facebook to here. it's named for mark zuckerberg and his wife priscilla who is a doctor. the couple donated 75 million to help fund the project. >> anything that people can do in their lives relies on being healthy. this would allow us to think and dream and work towards the ben future that we all want to create. so we support this hospital because we believe that good health should not be something that's out of anyone's reach. >> the couple's donation is the largest gift to the hospital since it fundraising foundation

tomorrow will be 57 degrees at the embark embarcadero. overnight, chilly. 43 for fairfield. sun comes up tomorrow morning at three minutes before 7:00. >> still above average tomorrow in san francisco. 67 degrees, 5 degrees above average. oakland, 72. san jose, 73. south bay, sunshine and low to mid-70s for the most part over by the shore. cooler with some low clouds. east bay tomorrow, upper 60s to low 70s, very pleasant in the offing for the east bay. north bay as well, a couple of notches cooler. up around ukiah and clear lakes and windsor, 72 degrees. mostly in the 70s, very nice weather for much of the bay area. that's going to really cool down. look at tuesday and wednesday.

boy, this is fairly big news. >> it is big news. might be the end of an era. it was decide that had blaine gapret would be the starting quarterback against seattle. and shocking news is that kaepernick will have sea sobbed ending surgery. he was listed as probable for this weekend's game against the seahawks. he has now been placed on season-ending reserve and will undergo surgery to repair a
