the terror alert remains at its highest level. the belgian capital of brussels will remain on lockdown until tomorrow. cbs news reporter tina krous is tracking developments. >> reporter: soldiers are standing guard on the streets of brussels where the subway and most businesses are shut down. with paris terror suspect ab today salemsa lam. the terror suspect may have been wearing exexplosive belt under his code. mohammed says he thinks his brother decided at the last moment not to go through with the attack. seven terrorists died in paris, including raheem, a third brother, who blew himself up

outside a bar. parisians are still bringing memorials at the bataclan theater where 89 rock fans lost their lives. they were here to see the american band eagles of death metal. band members told vice news about that night. >> the killers were able to get in and kill every one of them, except for a kid who was hiding under my leather jacket. >> killers got in your dressing room? >> yeah. >> wow. >> people were playing dead. they were so scared. a great reason why so many were killed is because so many people wouldn't leave their friends. >> reporter: at a church service near the bataclan, the priest urged people to embrace love, not violence. >> i've been praying a lot since last week. i've been praying a lot for the victims, for their family. >> reporter: while paris is still grieving, the city is slowly coming back to life. tina krous, cbs news, paris. 130 people died in the attack. nearly 200 people who were injured remain hospitalized tonight. president obama is headed back to the u.s. after attending a summit in southeast asia. a news conference in malaysia

earlier in the day, the president had tough words about fighting isis. >> they are a bunch of killers with good social media. the most powerful tool we have to fight isil is to say that we're not afraid. >> the president said he may be open to joining forces with russian president vladimir putin to wipe out the terror group. isis claimed responsibility for downing that russian airliner in egypt and for the attacks in paris. >> i discussed with president putin in a brief pull-aside his need to recognize that he needs to go after the people who killed russian citizens. >> the president also called on americans to show compassion to the thousands of syrian refugees that he wants to welcome into the u.s. it's despite poll numbers that show americans are resistent to the idea. now, the issue of tapping into the dark web to stop potential terrorists is being debated again. at the center of it, some of silicon valley's biggest names

and access to highly sensitive information. kpix 5's anne makovec with more. >> the achilles heel in the internet is encryption. >> reporter: the top democrat on the senate intelligence committee dianne feinstein spoke on face the nation about the danger of undetectable communication. >> terrorists could use playstations to be able to communicate and there's nothing that can be done about it. >> reporter: end-to-end encryption technology is now used in many standard message systems like apple's i message, even with a warrant law enforcement can't get access. >> the biggest threat today is the idea that terrorists can communicate in dark space, dark platforms, and we can't see what they are saying. >> reporter: there has been no conclusive evidence the attackers in paris used encrypted messaging to plan their attack, but the house homeland security chair says

this. >> these guys were talking to each other on their iphones, flipping out sim cards. in my judgment, they were talking in the dark space. that's how they pulled it off without detection. >> reporter: the u.s. intelligence community wants a way to access encrypted communications by having companies retain a way to decrypt them, but cybersecurity experts say it's all but impossible to leave a secure back door for the government without also leaving a door open for hackers or cyber spies. >> the cat's out of the bag when it comes to encryption. >> reporter: east bay congressman eric schwall well spoke about it sunday morning. >> a lot of these messengers are based overseas in china and russia. you can't ban encryption over there. >> reporter: he does say feds are working closely to identify terrorists. but tim cook says on apple's website we have never allowed access to our servers and never

will. >> we're not crying wolf. there's good reason for this. people are dying all over the world. >> reporter: anne makovec, kpix 5. >> investigators found a phone that's believed to have come from one of the paris terrorists. it had a message suggesting they signal each other when the attack was beginning. investigators used cell phone tower data to locate other possible suspects. well, a bomb scare forced a turkish airlines flight to make an emergency landing in canada. the jet carried 256 people left new york last night, bound for the turkish capital of ankora when a bomb threat was reported. the plane was diverted to nova scotia and landed safely. police searched the jet. turns out there were no explosives on board, but it is the second time in the past week that a flight leaving the u.s. was diverted to canada after a bomb threat. unruly passengers forced the pilot of a southwest airlines flight to divert a plane to kansas city today. a passenger captured this cell

phone video from inside the cabin. the plane was headed from indianapolis to los angeles when the crew says several passengers began to disrupt the flight. the pilot landed the jet safely. three people were detained for questioning. southwest says no charges were filed against them. well, a story of survival for a group of people including a 4-month-old baby trapped on a burning boat. it happened yesterday off the coast of venice beach in southern california. rescuers plucked the people from the water after their 40- foot yacht burst into flames 100 feet offshore. lifeguards were able to quickly come to their rescue. >> as they surfaced, i grabbed the baby. i identified myself as the lifeguard to the mother. and i held the baby over my head, swam it back to the rescue boat. >> it was a very scary moment. right now i'm happy that it's over and everybody's safe and i was happy the lifeguards were there. >> no one was hurt, fortunately. investigators are still working to find out what sparked the

fire. still to come, a firefighter caught by surprise, falling through the roof of a house on fire. how he was able to survive unscathed. >> i saw it! >> and republican presidential candidate donald trump under fire again tonight. this time, over what he claims he saw on 9/11 that authorities say never happened.

jersey city. he made the same claim today on the morning talk shows, but there's been no evidence that that ever happened. today, abc's george stephanopolis confronted trump. >> you know, the police say that didn't happen at all. those rumors have been on the internet for sometime. did you misspeak yesterday? >> it did happen. i saw it. it was on television. [ overlapping speakers ] >> police say it didn't happen. >> people were cheering on the other side of new jersey where you have large arab populations, cheering as the world trade center came down. i know it may not be politically correct for you to talk about it, but there were people cheering as that building came down, as those buildings came down, and that tells you something. it was well covered at the time, george. i know they don't like to talk about it, but it was well covered at the time. there were people over in new jersey that were watching it, heavy arab population that were cheering as the buildings came down. not good. >> the mayor of jersey city says trump is plain wrong and is politicizing a heated issue.

at a presidential motorcade then . it was 52 years ago today a 24-year-old native of new orleans took aim at a presidential motorcade and then took the life of john f. kennedy. the president and first lady arrived in dallas to make a noon time speech, taking a motorcade through the heart of downtown. when the car rolled into the dealy plaza, gunshots rang out. bullets truck the president in the head and neck and he died

30 minutes later. lee harvey oswald was arrested for the shooting. he was killed two days later while live television cameras were rolling, by jack ruby. the president buried at arlington national cemetery at a site picked out by his wife. an eternal flame burns at the grave site. it was strategically placed so it has a view of the lincoln memorial, as well as the washington monument. pfizer and allergen are on the brink of striking a mega deal worth more than $150 billion. the deal would create the world's biggest drugmaker by sales. allergen is headquartered in dublin, ireland. it manufactures a number of products including botox. the takeover would be the largest so-called inversion of a company to move abroad to take advantage of lower corporate tax rates. the deal could formally be announced tomorrow. sad news from the san diego zoo safar park. a popular white rhino had to be

euthanized this morning. nola was 41 years old, suffered from a number of old-age- related ailments, including arthritis and recurring abcess on her hip. nola had been a draw to safari park since 1986. her death leaves three white rhinos in the world, all at a sanctuary in kenya. we have better news at a northern california zoo. a red panda that had escaped has been found. masalla disappeared three days ago from the sequoia park zoo . veterinarians will will her a full checkup tomorrow. and the northeast is getting hit with the first big winter storm of the season, as much as 20 inches of snow across parts of illinois, ohio and michigan. the stream created hazardous travel conditions and more than 500 flight cancellations. a blast of much colder air is now following the storm. temperatures fell into the

single digits and in some places went below zero. the snow is now turning into ice, making roads treacherous to travel. it's going to be freezing here topeka, probably down into the low 60s. put a chill in your bones with that. then later in the week, we'll be in the upper 40s in some of the coolest spots in the bay area. probably not much in the way of snow down here, but diablo, hamilton range could get a bit of a dusting by wednesday morning. we shall see. we have a chance of a few showers moving into the bay area later on tuesday and wednesday. right now as we look at the transamerica pyramid, concord at 63 degrees. oakland, 61. san francisco, 65. in santa rosa, 65 degrees. a few high clouds up in northern california. some will stream over the bay area as well, as the night wears on. chilly tonight, too, as you'll see in a minute. see that low close to the gulf. we'll sink slowly south over the next 48 hours so that by tuesday and wednesday we stand a chance of showers in the bay

area. it will certainly get cooler. numbers, highs upper 40s in some of the coolest spots inland on wednesday. rain, not much, maybe a quarter inch to half an inch. as we get toward thanksgiving, thanksgiving will be cool, but it will be dry on thursday and will stay dry through the weekend. just to give you a comparison on saturday, yesterday's temperature, livermore up to 68. san jose was at 70. oakland set a record at 74 degrees. by midweek, livermore manages just 48. so numbers in spots will tumble as much as 20 degrees from the weekend highs. going to be cool coming up midweek and a little bit wet, too. future cast shows what's happening tonight and tomorrow. fog spills into the valleys and along the peninsula by tomorrow morning at 6:00. then we get high clouds moving in. so mostly sunny except for the low clouds near the shoreline. not bad either. tomorrow's not that cool. numbers come down a little bit. the big chill comes in midweek when temperatures in the coolest spots hit only 40s, upper 40s. rain chances coming in tuesday

for the north bay and the rest of the bay area later in the day on tuesday and wednesday. then cool and dry thanksgiving day. here's what it looks like overnight tonight. santa rosa, 43 degrees. sun is up at 6:58 a.m. san jose tonight down to 46. mid-40s for much of the bay area. for tomorrow, we'll be tumbling below average for the first time in a while. san francisco, 58 degrees. concord, 63. san jose, 63. oakland, 62. down in the south bay, the entire bay area will be in the upper 50s to low 60s tomorrow. not bad at all really in the south bay, with filtered sunshine and temperatures in the mid-60s. pretty much the same for the east bay. plenty of sun. a few low clouds to start the day in the north bay. then recover to the low 60s. distinctly cooler tomorrow. temperatures tomorrow come down about 8 degrees on average. that will include ukiah, 65. 64 at clear lake. thanksgiving looks mostly sunny, but on the chilly side and temperatures will be in the low 50s for the most part for the bay area. extended forecast, a few

showers coming in tuesday and wednesday as we begin to cloud things up and cool things down midweek. wednesday, coolest day of the week. toward the weekend, numbers recover to the near 50-degree range and low 50s as well with partly cloudy skies coming in. in terms of weather, it's late november. it's supposed to get cool and it will. juliet, or dennis? >> not as cool as the raiders right now. you can probably put the raiders game in a must-win category. they were in detroit. if you've never heard of this name, thomas walsh, you will, possibly for years to come. not good news for 49ers fans. we'll tell you why, next. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

each game..but right now, they're like that commercial.. . 4-3 last week in a wild card spot, improving with each game, right now the raiders are like the commercial, fallen and can't get up. the man behind the playbook, coordinator jim bob cooter. maybe we should have shown the defensive coordinator, but the raiders shut out in the third quarter when latavius murray pulled them within a couple of points. lions leading 9-7. smith suspended for one year, but the raiders sacked matt stafford four times today. raiders put together enough offense to see that. 48 yards out, later added a 56- yarder, and the raiders led 13- 9. same score fourth quarter. stafford can't find an open receiver and he took off. nothing but green in front of him. 18 yards down the sideline to

the 5-yard line. now, check out this next formation. you got four receivers on the bottom of your screen. that frees up the middle for stafford and he took advantage. 16-13 lead. later in the fourth, raiders backed up in the shadow of their end zone. carr completes to rivera on 3rd down, but holding is called on donald penn in the end zone. that is a safety. two huge holding calls. lions up 18-13. and jake bell runs for the 1st down to the goal line and that would do it. they killed the clock, over 7 minutes. not bad for the worst rushing team in the league by a wide margin. raiders lose 18-13. three straight losses. their record is 4-6. and the frustration is mounting. >> overall, do you look at this as a one giant step backward? >> no, i'm not going to do that. i'm not going to let you guys bait me into that. we're a good team. we lost a couple games.

san jose scored four unanswered in the third period. they beat the blue jackets 5-3 to finish their road trip, a perfect 6-0. miami speedway, number 24 jeff gordon, final race of his career, a shot to win his fifth sprint cup title. but the night belonged to kyle busch. seven laps to go, got around the outside of brad keselowski and took the lead. in the final lap, kyle busch pulling away from the field to claim his first sprint cup title after missing the first 11 races of the season. and joe gibbs racing takes its fourth championship. keselowski took second. i was pulling for jeff gordon because this was the final race of his career. he was in position to win the sprint cup title, but came up just short. ran a strong race. you know, nobody remembers brian, who comes in second place. >> i have that feeling. i know exactly what you mean. thanks for watching. see you in half an hour at 6:30. , ,,,,,,
