announcer: live from the cbs bay area studs kpix 5 news. we have a number of responses to that address related to domestic violence. >> a woman's call for help comes too late and tonight he boyfriend is on the -- her boyfriend is on the run accused of killing her. good evening. >> it all started in san mateo this afternoon, when a woman called 911 saying she had been stabbed. by the time police got to her home on south b street, she was dead. her boyfriend car was abandoned in san carlos. police abandoned a neurobeer nearby urgent care center. >> reporter: the crime scene just wrapped up. the house i'm talking about is the one with the lights on.

in the half half-hour, police have finished up inside that house, gathering up as much evidence as they can trying to find the woman's boyfriend. her 22-year-old boyfriend, of the woman he killed, police say that he stabbed his 34-year-old girlfriend today. police and paramedics got the call. they couldn't save her, and the boyfriend left. he ditched his car in san carlos where they put it on lockdown, and the swat team tried to find him. they were unable do that. this is not the first time they've responded to a domestic violence call at this house. >> this does appear to be a domestic violence-related homicide, and very tragically, this is all too common domestic violence, and the escalation of the violence that occurs in those relationships and that's one of the reasons our

department has a special victims unit that tends specifically to victims of domestic violence, and recognition of the escalation of that type of force, and in the hopes to prevent a tragedy like this. >> reporter: police wouldn't tell me how many times they've been here. police say you should consider him armed and dangerous because they say they think he knows police are looking for him. if you see his face and you recognize him, call the emergency line, call police, certainly do not confront him. kpix 5. the scare. san carlos clinic came one day after the deadly shooting in planned parenthood in colorado. police were in a desperate fight for their own lives as they tried to save others. >> reporter: newly released video from a shopping mall shows the tense situation during a

deadly rampage in colorado springs. officers moved out of harms way as shots rang out inside a planned parenthood facility on friday. robert deer shot and killed three people including car garrett swasey -- including officer garrett swasey. >> i'm positive this community will honor him in a way that reflects the heroism that he displayed. >> reporter: this man came face-to-face with the gunman. >> i saw myself in the mirror and he was aiming for my head. >> "i've been shot, i've been hit." >> when it was all over, nine people had been wounded. vicki coward oversees the facility that was attacked. >> what happened yesterday was a terrible crime, results in a terrible tragedy and we would never forget it. >> reporter: when deer finally surrendered, a cbs news source said quote, no more baby parts.

investigators searched his property in north carolina and colorado. neighbors say deer was recluse. >> he wasn't outgoing much. he kind of stayed to his. >> relatives of deer described him as weird and unpredictable. cbs news, colorado springs. pro-choice demonstrators rallied in san francisco today in response to the ram page. they say no matter what provoked the colorado shooter, a attacks on abortion providers need to stop. >> the details aren't clear about the motivation of the shooter but we know there's been an escalation on aboard rights and womens' rights over their decision to become mothers over the last years. >> demonstrators say the rally was their way this had standing of in solidarity of their attacks. >> it is another frigid nice

across the bay area. downtown's plaza de caesar chavez, with hundreds of trees decorated. with pretty skies, temperatures will plummet again tonight. freeze warnings are in effect again with temperatures as low as 26 degrees in some of the wind-protected valleys. tonight, santa rosa, 28, concord, 27, san jose just degree above freezing and rain chances return by late next week. when, where, how much, we'll have a complete look at the forecast in just a few minutes. the water is finally coming back on in one lafayette neighborhood tonight, more than 36 hours after a 16-inch pipe burst and flooded the streets. from east bay m.u.d., repairs are nearly done and service is being restored. release station road, water went

gushing down the streets for hours. today, crews were digging up the pipe that's been there since 1949. east bay mud doesn't know what caused it to split, anything from seismic facility, to cold age. >> cast iron pipe is the oldest in the area. >> police will lose their homes. >> about 60 customers were without water all day, as the result of that break. a homeowner in movada burned to the ground after he tried to start his classic car. john ashley captured the billowing smoke and flames. the homeowner was starting his 72 chevy nova when it exploded and caught fire. he got out safely. the detached garage went up in flames. firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to the

outbreak from kilauea is ma required. for a stunning sight on the island of hawaii. the glowing river of liquid roc now a quarter of a mil erupting since january 1983, the lava flowing keeps going, from kilauea, now a quarter of a mile long. isn't that something? local authorities say the eruption is several miles from the closest community so no one is in danger, not yet any way. an incredible survival story out of california where a newborn baby was buried alive. the little girl is safe thanks to another mother. >> reporter: this is the picture l.a. county sheriff's deputy took after finding a newborn girl buried alive in the hole of this pavement in compton. >> it was down here. >> reporter: ryan says his mom found the baby during her daily walk down this bike path. >> she heard a noise, sounded like a kid crying, or a baby.

she decided i guess to call 911. >> reporter: when deputies go the there, they heard a baby's muffled cry, so they looked closer and found the child hidden in some asphalt and rubble. >> reporter: detectives believe the girl was born within the last two days and they have no clue who her parents are. jesse lives nearby. >> who would do some dumb stuff? they need to catch this person. you need to go to jail. >> it's just sad to see somebody leave a baby like that when there's so many other places they can be taken. >> the baby is listed in stable condition. >> california's safe haven law allows parents to abandon them at hospitals and fire stations, no questions asked. and out of southern

california, a chihuahua and a coyote. the chihuahua is missing after a coyote stormed the home and snatched the dog. a baby girl was in the same room with two other dogs beneath the bed. >> i saw him bolt, and i saw something -- he definitely had something in his mouth and it was white. >> the homeowner says neighborhood pets are being attacked on a weekly basis. california's drought may be partly to blame. a sad outcome in the effort to save a baby dolphin found stranded off the monterrey county coast. wildlife officials had to euthanize the calf tonight. it was first spotted yesterday swimming alone in open waters after apparently getting separated from its mother. it later got stuck in the mud. rescuers pulled the calf to safety, but because it was stranded for so long it was in bad health, so the decision was made to put it down. seems holiday shoppers
