uniform, kobe bryant says he is ready to walk away from the game. good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. the alleged gunman who killed three people at a colorado planned parenthood clinic is scheduled to make his first court appearance today. robert gear is described as exclusive and odd. he told authorities no more baby parts after his arrest. it's possible he'll face federal, as well as state charges. david begnaud begins our coverage. >> reporter: investigators were still processing the crime scene on sunday following the deadly e others inside a planned parenthood facility. they say he had ammunition in addition to a long rifle and they believe he planned on detonating propane tanks outside

his car, but surrendered instead. >> i was surprised, given he had to know how much damage he had done and -- but he made a decision to give himself up. >> reporter: a law enforcement source says when dear surrendered, he said, quote, no more baby parts. the deadly attack hits home for hope chapel. slain officer gary swasey was an elder here. >> we have experienced all joy, all pain, all emotion for the last ten years side-by-side. he's my best friend. >> reporter: 26-year-old jennifer markovsky was a mother of two. on facebook, her father wrote, i miss you, my daughter, life was too short. leyonte chandler said one of the victims killed was his brother, ke'arre stewart. >> almost 500,000 people here. it hapened to be my brother out of random. the guy didn't know him, he didn't know the guy. i forgive him, though. >> reporter: david begnaud, cbs news, colorado springs.

robert dear's statement "no more baby parts" is a possible reference to a video allegedly showing planned parenthood personnel negotiating the sale of fetal organs. that sparked a barrage of accusations against the organization, particularly from some gop presidential candidates. now, the president of planned parenthood said in a statement, it is offensive and outrageous that some politicians are now claiming this tragedy has nothing to do with the toxic environment they helped create. >> well, i think there has been some vicious rhetoric on the left blaming those who are pro life. >> any hate crime is a horrible thing, no matter from where it comes and should be condemned very strongly. >> the center for medical progress, the group that made and released the undercover video, said in a statement, it condemns the barbaric killing spree in colorado springs by a violent madman. former figure skating champion nancy kerrigan said

garrett swasey, the officer killed in colorado springs was a true friend. an emotional kerrigan said she grew up with swasey and skated with him when they were young. >> garrett was always there listening to me when i had something i was upset about and always sort of putting somebody else's feelings ahead of his own. >>kerrigan wasn't surprised swasey took a career path where he helped others. this morning, a warning for u.s. citizens in afghanistan. the u.s. embassy in kabul received a threat for attacks in the next 48 hours. u.s. citizens in kabul are strongly urged to exercise be extreme caution. there are no further details regarding timing or method of attack. the state department had already issued a warning against travel to afghanistan, calling the security situation extremely unstable. more severe weather is in store for parts of the country's midsection this morning.

a band of storms that has moved through the plains and midwest since thanksgiving is blamed for at least 14 deaths. early this week, parts of the northern plains can expect a foot of snow, freezing rain, and ice is expected in kansas, nebraska, and iowa. in oklahoma, a vicious ice storm knocked out power to more than 71,000 homes and businesses over the weekend. power lines and trees crumbled like matchsticks under the weight of the ice. >> all night, we could hear the limbs cracking and the ice falling and we just didn't know what to expect. >> ice covered roads made for treacherous driving. president obama and more than a hundred world leaders are in paris this morning for the start of the worldwide climate summit. the goal -- try and limit the greenhouse gas emissions most scientists agree are causing global warming with dire effects. tina krause is in london with the details. >> reporter: good morning. it's not easy to get nearly 200 countries to agree on anything,

especially something with such an economic impact. the summit opens this morning and it's expected to last for two weeks. negotiators will try to come to terms on a deal that will slow and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. and at least slow down the effect of global warming. president obama will be in paris two days. he arrived last night and went directly to the concert hall, the bataclan, where the most people were killed during the terrorist attacks two weeks ago. also last night, protesters clashed with police. french forces used tear gas to stop demonstrators who defied a government ban on protests. french authorities did not want large crowds gathering after the terrorist attacks. this is the kind of pollution the summit wants to stop. smog in shanghai reached hazardous levels this morning and two previous summits did nothing on change the way developing economies like china and india operate. that is the biggest stumbling blocks. developing countries want the

right to use fossil fuels, like coal and oil, to advance their economies. some 180 countries have already submitted plans to curb greenhouse emissions and most scientists agree an increase of 3.6 degrees fahrenheit from preindustrial levels will trigger disastrous environmental events. the stakes are high. the noaa projects this year will be the hottest on record. >> tina krause in london, thank you very much. donald trump is not backing down and says he was 100% right when he says he saw muslims in new jersey celebrating the 9/11 attacks. >> i saw it. so many people saw it, chuck. so why would i take it back? i'm not going to take it back. >> trump has come under fire for his remarks. there is no evidence that large numbers of muslims in new jersey celebrated the world trade center attacks. fellow republican presidential candidate jeb bush says he has grave doubts about trump's ability to be commander in chief. >> if you listen to him talk,

it's -- it's -- it's kind of scary, to be honest with you, because he is not a serious candidate. >> bush says he is confident the more people hear from trump, the less likely trump will get the gop nomination. coming up on "cbs this morning" we will discuss the trump campaign with john dickerson, "face the nation" moderator and cbs news political director. enhanced surveillance video that shows a cleveland police officer fatally shooting 12-year-old tamir rice has been released. the video will be presented to a grand jury that is deciding whether to indict the officer. don champion reports. >> reporter: the grand jury will go over this enhanced surveillance video released by prosecutors over the weekend. frame-by-frame, it breaks down the final moments of 12-year-old tamir rice's life, including the instant he was shot by rookie cleveland officer timothy loehmann, two seconds after he got out of his patrol car.

>> we see tamir's arm and shoulder sort of lifting upwards and it's unclear whether that is in reaction to one of the shots that missed him or to the shot that struck him in the stomach. and in the very next frame, tamir is doubled over and by that time has been shot. >> reporter: the shooting happened last november as loehmann and his partner were respond to go a 911 call about an armed man. it looked like a real firearm but was a pellet gun. today, grand jury who have been hearing testimony for five weeks, will hear from tamir's mother. >> gives me the strength to know i have all of you guys to uplift me. >> reporter: experts for the prosecution maintains the use of force was justified because the officers had no way of knowing the gun might have been fake. rice's family want their own experts to testify and dispute those claims. the two officers involved are expected to testify in the coming weeks. now, it could take five months before any decision is reached. rice's family, along with other local leaders, have called for the lead prosecutor in the case

"the baltimore sun" reports jury selection is set to begin today in the first trial of one of the six baltimore police officers charged in the death of freddie gray. william g. porter is facing manslaughter and other charges. police arrested gray in april. he died after suffering a severe spinal cord injury while in police custody. the "chicago tribune" reports the university of chicago cancelled classes and is closing facilities today at its hyde park campus after a warning from the fbi. the university says fbi counterterrorism agents alerted the school to a threat of an on-campus shooting set for today at 10:00 a.m. in the campus quad. the "fresno bee" in california reports a suspected burglar died while stuck in a chimney after the homeowner lit a fire in the fireplace. the homeowner called police after hearing screams once the fire was lit on saturday. the 19-year-old died of smoke inhalation and burns.

"people" reports singer sinead o'connor is safe in dublin after posting a suicide letter on facebook. she said she was at a hotel under a different name.
