tools to make improvised explosives. i'm frank mallicoat. >> i'm michelle griego. chris martinez has the latest from san bernardino. >> reporter: police this afternoon now questioning if the suspects perhaps had other bigger attacks in mind. police revealed just a short time ago that the two shooters fired up to 75 rounds just at that holiday party. and they had a lot more ammo ready to go. an assault rifle and a bullet- riddled suv are part of a crime scene as police in san bernardino continue their investigation into why two shooters opened fire on a holiday party at a social services center. the suspects have been identified as a husband and wife, 28-year-old syed rizwan farook and 27-year-old tashfeen malik. they were killed in a shootout with police several hours after the rampage. >> it is possible that this was terrorist-related. but we don't know. >> reporter: at the shooting scene, police found three pipe

bombs linked to a remote- controlled device that apparently malfunctioned. they also found additional explosives in a nearby house that the suspects rented. >> the search that took place revealed that there were 12 pipe bomb type devices found in that house or in the garage of that house. >> reporter: farook worked for the san bernardino department of health. police said he attended their holiday gathering wednesday more before disappearing. investigators say he returned with his wife, both dressed in combat style clothes. >> there appears to be a degree of planning that went into this. nobody just gets up so the at a party, goes home and puts together that kind of an elaborate plan to do that. >> reporter: u.s. officials say neither of the shooters has shown up on u.s. terror watch lists. farook was an american citizen born in chicago. authorities have not released any background information about his wife. in the garage of the suspect's

home alongside about a dozen homemade pipe bombs they found 3,000 rounds of ammunition. officials say they expect to release the names of all the victims involved in this as we move on here throughout the day. rnardino, california, i'm chris martinez. >> chris, do police think they were planning another attack? >> reporter: that's one of the questions out here that they are asking. just looking at the scope of all of that ammunition, those weapons they found, it certainly would seem to them that perhaps there was something larger in the works. but their initial goal right now is to figure out the motive for this shooting. they still don't have a motive and that's a question that people are asking. >> chris martinez live in san bernardino, thank you. and we do know just what kind of fire power the two suspects were packing. it was a small arsenal.

during the final shootout with authorities, they had 1400 rounds for their assault weapons, 200-plus rounds for their nine-millimeter weapons, a search of their home turning up another serious ammo stash more than 3,000 bullets and 12 pipe bombs. kpix 5 reporter betty yu is in san bernardino and will have a live report during a special 4 p.m. edition of kpix 5 news. san francisco police are facing tough questions over the shooting death of a stabbing suspect that was caught on camera yesterday in the bayview district in front of a muni bus loaded with passengers. this morning, the man was identified as 26-year-old mario woods of san francisco. police say woods was armed with a knife at the time and the o appears to show him walking slowly before he was shot. >> this suspect had already demonstrated by committing a felony aggravated assault that he was a danger to others so he could not be allowed to move away from the scene. >> the question is whether lethal force was justified. at the same time, the city's

police commission has struck a compromise on body cameras. last night, commissioners decided officers will be allowed to review footage before making statements about use of force incidents. but each case will be up to the discretion of the police chief. the issue of when and if officers can review footage has been a source of tension between the police union and civil liberties organizations. happening today, oakland vice mayor rebecca kaplan is taking steps to prevent gun thefts in oakland. rebecca kaplan will introduce an ordinance to require guns left in cars to be locked and out of sight. the guns that killed kate steinle in san francisco and a muralist in oakland were both stolen from law enforcement vehicles. we have our "eye on the storm" a live look outside at the bay bridge. you can't see much. it is wet and windy all around the bay area. the showers started early this morning in the north bay and picked up big time last couple of hours all around the bay. and kpix 5's roberta gonzales is live in san francisco

tracking where the heaviest rain is falling now. hey, roberta. >> reporter: we do have anywhere from light to moderate rain right here at the marina green. heavy downpours just passed through. let me show you how much rain it left. right here we have puddles gathering and it's also raw because the winds are blowing out of the south gusting up to 23. [ signal breakup ] it's live. it's hi-def doppler radar and i can confirm that spot of green over the marina area a more light rainfall. then when you see yellow and bay bridge in treasure island that's the heavy cell of precipitation that passed through us here just about five minutes ago. let's go ahead and take a wider look at activity. the front is over the central valley. but we have bands of showers streaming across the east bay. another band of showers is lined up off the sonoma coast and we have that rain shower over half moon bay. we have rain falling now. it will continue to fall.

i'll tell you how much more rain to expect and how much has already accumulated and how high these winds are going to blow coming up later in this newscast. frank and michelle. >> we know you're having fun out there, roberta, thanks. firefighters are assessing damage after a two-alarm fire broke out on lombard this morning. kpix 5 reporter anne makovec says four people will need a new home for the holidays. >> reporter: witness cell phone video shows the dramatic scene on lombard this morning. >> flames were leaping in the air like 30 firefighters on site, six engines. it was amazing. >> reporter: in the end four people were left homeless and a 65-year-old man sent to the hospital for smoke inhalation. neighbor adam brown was woken up by a car honking just before 7 a.m. >> i looked out and they are like get out, get out! >> reporter: he took this photo outside after getting out of his apartment with only the necessities. >> shirt, wallet and shoes.

>> reporter: four others made it out before firefighters arrived but lost everything. >> it's extensive damage. structurally it can be repaired but extensive damage to both floors. >> reporter: traffic backed up as firefighters stabilized the building. >> the first thing you think of when you see a fire in the marina is is it going to spread? >> reporter: they had it under control in a half-hour. >> they will be there for you if you need them someday. >> reporter: the cause of the fire is under investigation. in the marina district, anne makovec, kpix 5. mayor lee announcing a sweeping new effort to help combat homelessness in san francisco today. a new city department will be dedicated exclusively to homeless services and rehabilitation. the plan is to combine health, housing and counseling programs all under one roof. the mayor's also dedicating $1 billion to homeless aid over the next four years.

ground before the heavier el nino rains work its way into the bay area in january. let's get to it. it's our live hi-def doppler radar. it is indicating that we have the rain showers right -- [ signal breakup ] -- the heaviest precipitation right now happens to be -- you can see it -- moving across the financial district towards oakland, emmyville, also berkeley. -- emeryville, also berkeley. we have heavier rain over sacramento. that's a front. it streams all the way back into the san jose area. now, let's go ahead and take a look at the currents right now. you can barely see the bay bridge from the city of san francisco. and that's because it is pouring outside! gusty winds, right now sfo wind gusts at 39 with our air temperatures pretty much in the 50s except for oakland now in the low 60s. we have the frontal boundary already passed through the bay area leaving in its wake a lot of scattered showers all the way throughout the evening commute.
