live from the cbs bay area studios this is kpix5 news. for the first time, isis has made a public statement on the san bernardino terrorist attack as a community tries to get back to normal. good evening i'm juliette goodrich. >> and i'm brian. >> first we have breaking news in concord. chopper 5 is over 242 on concord avenue. all southbound lanes are closed right now because of police action. we are making calls to find out what is going on in the area. you see a number of police cars lining the freeway. traffic in the area is slow. side streets are clogged. avoid the area if you can and we will have an update as soon

as we have more information. tonight isis has praised the couple behind the shooting attacks but the group did not call the couple isis members nor did they take responsibility for what happened. president obama used his weekly address to focus on the terrorist group and the shooting that left 14 people dead. >> it is entirely possible that these two people were radicalized to commit an act of terror. the danger of people succumbing to extremist ideologies. cbs news reporter chris martinez says tonight people are trying to figure out how the couple went from ordinary people to killers. >> reporter: this memorial of candles and flowers continues to grow. >> i want to go out and say a

prayer for the lost souls. >> reporter: ray is one who came here to pause, and pay respects to the victims of the shooting. jennifer garcia says it's especially tough explaining the deadly rampage to her kids. >> it's terrifying. if it's like this now, what's it going to be like when they grow up? >> reporter: while the community mourns and honors the victims, -- >> so far we have no indication that these killers are part of an organized larger group or form part of a cell. >> reporter: yet according to an unnamed federal law enforcement official, the los angeles times reports that syed farook had some kind of contact with people from the nu sr affront in syria. his wife, 29 year old tashfeen malik pledged her support to isis and its leader in an online post just before the

deadly rampage. her friends also say in the last few years she became more devout and started dressing more conservatively. chris martinez, cbs news, san bernardino. the fbi is working with pakistani officials who have contacted tashfeen malik's family in her country. the lawyers representing farook's family says there is no evidence his family harbored the same views. terror threats in the wake of the san bernardino shootings. you can see it right here on kpix5 tomorrow evening. the rented suv the suspects used has been towed away. the bullet-riddled vehicle sat in the street more than 48

hours. governor jerry brown arrived in france today for a climate change summit. he had this reaction to the shootings. >> people who are committing these jihadist [ indiscernible ] are going to be killing people in very unexpected places, so we have to be, as i said, on guard. >> the governor wouldn't commit to changing california's gun laws, but he did criticize neighboring states nevada and arizona. he called their laws wide open. a stabbing incident at a london underground subway station is being called a terrorist incident. london police say three people were stabbed, one of them seriously felt one person is under arrest. authorities did not say why they believe the incident is

terror related. an angry crowd demands san francisco's police chief resign in the wake of the latest police shooting. the police department held a community meeting to discuss why one of its officers shot and killed a man who was wielding a kitchen knife on wednesday. some believe the police need better training. police say mario woods had a 4 and a half inch long knife. woods had already cut one man with it. today he had this reaction about last night's meeting. >> i think it was a hard meeting. i think people are upset. i think they have a right to be upset. the investigation's early on and it will go forward. but my responsibility is to go have a conversation with the community. >> they are going to change how they train police officers, especially when it comes to

williams is responsible for introducing french chuck williams, founder of williams-sonoma has died. he was 100 years old. williams is responsible for introducing french cook wear into american kitchens. he bought his first store in sonoma in 1943 with cook ware inspired by copper and enamel. he opened a second store in san francisco in 1958. his passion became a nationwide success through mailorders shortly after. bart riders are going to have to cough up extra cash

we're all going to be in the mid-50s tomorrow. monday and tuesday okay, increased clouds on wednesday. more rain on thursday. by the time we get to next weekend, we'll be back to partly cloudy skies. doctors say when a person is diagnosed with cancer, the whole family is affected by it. our student rising above will tell you how important family is when things get tough. wendy tells us jessica has been a pillar of strength for her family. >> reporter: jessica is ununusualy close to her little sisters. there's a reason for that. she was 14 when her mother was diagnosed with leukemia. >> every day i would think about oh, is she going to -- she might die today. what will i do? how will my sisters react? >> reporter: because jessica would have to be the strong

one. 6 girls, one in kindergarten at the time. living in a rough part of east oakland. their mom is at home now, still frail. but for two years, she was in and out of the medical center waiting for a bone marrow transplant so her children could not even see her much of the time. jessica ran the house and took care of the little ones. >> i cooked for them. i changed them. >> diapers. >> yeah. i did their laundry. >> reporter: she would always say don't worry, we will be okay. even with these problems, we are growing. with her mom having to work and her father being a laborer, jessica's sister quit college to support the family. jessica held everyone together.

>> she took charge in moments of crisis. for someone at 14, i really couldn't believe it. >> 14th amendment -- >> reporter: school was still a family priority. so jessica worked hard to keep her grades up. >> she held it together so well. seamless. i had no idea. >> reporter: she didn't tell anyone what was happening, not even her art teacher, her favorite. >> i wanted to express my fear through showing it at -- somebody clawing at you. >> reporter: even after her mother got the transplant, there were still scares. the worst one day when jessica took her mom on the emergency room. >> she felt like she was dying at that moment. >> she would say mommy, i am with you. you are not alone. >> she is someone that tells the truth and she says i'm not sure what's going to happen,
