and bomb- sniffing dogs. the feds burst into a home.. >> live, from the cbs bay area studios, this is kpix5 news. >> armed with guns, blow torches, and bomb sniffing dogs, the feds burst into a home looking for clues in the san bernardino massacre. what we have learned about who lives will. good evening, i'm brian hackney. >> i'm juliette goodrich. the family of the shooting suspect syed farook used to live next door toe that house in river side. and neighbors say an old friend of his still lives there. chris martinez on what agents were looking for when they broke down the door today. >> i heard the windows crashing. the garage door being torn. the breaking in. you know. by the law enforcement. >> reporter: the house belonged to a friend to syed farook who allegedly purchased two assault

rifles that killed 14 people. they are focusing on the couple's ties to terrorist organizations. >> so far, we have no indication these killers are part of an organized larger group or formed part of a cell. >> reporter: yet according to an unnamed federal law enforcement official, the los angeles times reported that syed farook had some kind of contact with people in syria and somalia. his wife, tashfeen malik pledged her support to isis and its leader in an online post just prior to the deadly rampage and her friends said in the last two years she had become more devout and started dressing more conservatively. isis called them supporters but stopped short of claiming responsibility for the attack. crowds gathered in downtown san bernardino to try to begin the healing process of the annual christmas parade. but the fear of more attacks

was still on a lot of people's minds. >> my daughter still has nightmares because it was so close. we live pretty close to there. and she is scared. >> tension is also still high tonight in the neighborhood where the final shoot-out happened. one father watched on live tv as bullets hit his house. his son was home alone. >> he said he was able to hear the shots hitting things out in front. and, found like, he heard whizzing going by. >> his home was left riddled with bullet holes but his son was not hurt. president obama will address the nation tomorrow on the steps the government is taking to keep american people safe. you see the address live at 5:00 right here on channel 5. he used his weekly web address to renew his call for tougher control. >> here in america, it is way too easy for dangerous people to get their hands on a gun.

for example, right now, people on the no-fly list can walk into a store and buy a gun. that is insane. if you are too dangerous to board a plane, you are too dangerous by definition to buy a gun. and so i'm calling on congress to close this loophole now. we may not be able to prevent every tragedy, but at a bare minimum, we shouldn't be making it so easy for potential terrorists or criminals to get their hands on a gun that they could use against americans. >> the issue of gun control is truly front and center tonight. for the first time in nearly a century, the new york times ran a front page editorial urging more regulation. it said in part, it is a moral outrage and a national disgrace that civilians can legally purchase weapons designed specifically to kill people with brutal speed and efficiency. it went onto say that certain weapons must be outlawed and republicans were quick to

react. >> it is typical liberal claptrap from the new york times. >> it would have been a lot better if there had been gun ins the room. they could have protected themselves if they had guns. >> you don't stop the bad guys by taking away our guns. you stop the bad guys by using our guns. >> and after all that, senate democrats failed to pass two gun control measures this past week. one, to expand background checks for guns purchased online. and at gun shows. the other would have kept individuals on the no-fly terror watch list from buying guns as president obama just eluded to. governor jerry brown is also weighing in tonight on the gun control debate speaking with reporters at the summit in paris. he lashed out at some of california's neighbors. >> california has the toughest gun control laws of any state. and ... nevada and arizona are wide

open. so that's a gigantic back door through which any terrorist can walk. >> arizona's governor fought back saying to politicize this tragedy and attack our state is out of bounds. not only will we be ignoring governor brown's advice, i call on him to retract his thoughtless and ill advised comments. and nevada plans to respond. they are still crafting their statement. stay with kpix5 and cbssf.com for continuing coverage on air and online. a terror scare tonight in london. three people were stabbed in an underground station. police are calling it a terrorist incident. one of the victims has serious injuries but is expected to survive. the suspect was taken down with a stun gun and is under arrest. police have not released his identity or any other details or why they consider the attack to be terror related. britain is on high alert. intelligence has suggested that it might be the next target for

isis following last month's attacks in paris. highway 242 in concord is back open tonight after a shooting brought traffic to a standstill. one man was hit when the gunfire erupted late this afternoon near concord avenue. chopper 5 was over the scene as traffic backed up for miles. police shut down all southbound lanes for about 90 minutes while they gathered evidence including shell casings. the victim got himself to the hospital and is expected to survive. police don't have many details on the shooter but they think the suspect got away in a silver suv. tonight, the search is on for a pack of thieves who pulled off a daring daytime robbery. christin ayers tells us the tactic they used has become a popular crime trend. hey christian. >> reporter: it is. berkeley police have made no arrests tonight in that theft. but they have stepped up patrols in the fourth street shopping district which they say has seen an up tick in thefts this holiday season. the bold broad daylight theft

happened yesterday at this berkeley apple store. >> it was quick. it was over in a very short amount of time. >> reporter: shoppers astounded it could happen here in berkeley's retail district. >> wow. that is sort of scary. >> i don't expect it somewhere like here. i wouldn't expect it at all. >> reporter: police say the thieves, seven young men, stormed in just before 3:00 p.m. some had their faces covered. all stuck to a strict plan. >> ran inside the store. grabbed as many iphones as they could and literally ran out the store with 12 stolen iphones. >> reporter: the strategy the thieves used reminiscent of the so-called rainbow girls. a group of mostly female thieves captured on surveillance video. rushing retail stores in large groups leaving employees overwhelmed and unable to catch them. >> this is similar to the cases going on. >> reporter: this at least the second theft at this apple store in the last month. shoppers worry until police get to the root of the problem, it won't stop. >> it is bad enough they are

breaking into places but really, who is buying these macs? >> reporter: and berkeley police are still reviewing surveillance video and trying to identify some of the suspects. they say they only have vague descriptions of the men from people who were there when it happened because it all happened so fast. reporting live in berkeley, christin ayers, kpix5. >> well riding bart is about to get pricier. the fare hike is part of an automatic price increase that happens every other year. most rides around the bay will cost 15 cents more. it will be a little more if you are going across the bay to sfo. now bart says it will raise $312 million by 2020. the money will help pay for new train cars, new train control systems, and a new maintenance facility in hayward. well, while fares are up, rain will be coming down. good news as we look over treasure island. overcast skies there. the high-def doppler shows rain gathering off the north coast at this hour with pretty heavy

cells up by mendocino right now. only a few echoes around the north bay and ukiah. but the futurecast loop shows rain will be spreading south after midnight. but even that will not amount to much. this is overnight tonight. most of it gone by tomorrow morning. meanwhile, the perfectwet ere was fairly good today for a saturday skate at the embarcadero. it won't be too bad once this little system spins out of the area. it was a close call for the warriors and their win streak. tonight in toronto. >> draymond green in. very dangerous. but the warriors win it. 21-0! >> warriors win it. steph curry and company held off the raptors 112-109 to make it 21 straight wins to start the season. they have won 25 consecutive regular season games. that is the third longest

to its online customers.. t they didn't te >> safeway has been order today refund almost $52 million to inonline customers because of what it didn't tell them. it charged customers 10% more to buy online. but they didn't let the customers know. that happened between 2006 and 2011. customers who were charged extra for shopping online are eligible for refunds. a pleasanton based company is fighting that ruling. well chuck williams of williams sonoma has died. he is responsible for introducing french cook ware into american kitchens. he bought his first store in 1953 in sonoma. opened a second store in san francisco shortly after. his passion hit the national market with a spike in mail order sales. williams passed away peacefully in his sleep. he was 100 years old. tonight, actor morgan

freeman says he is okay after his plane made a hard landing in mississippi. he was headed to texas for some documentary work when a plane blew a tire on takeoff and had to turn back. he and his pilot walked away without a scratch. a statement, he said sometimes things just don't go as planned. the same can be said for the alaska airlines pilot in this next story. he struck and killed a deer while landing in santa rosa. and airline spokesperson said the deer wandered onto the plane's path at the sonoma county airport wednesday and the pilot had no way the avoid it. nobody was hurt. and the plane was not damaged but the next leg of the flight down to los angeles had to be can semid so the plane could be checked out. a bay area restaurant owner is facing hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines over some apartments he owns in fresno. he is accused of leaving the residents without heat or hot water for weeks. kpix5's da lin shows us the conditions they are dealing

with tonight. >> reporter: the landlord chris henry also owns this upscale sausalito restaurant. he has a long history here in marin county, but he is not very popular in fresno. about 1,000 people living at his large complex don't have heat, hot water, or the ability to cook. looking at the barrel house tavern, it is hard to believe the man who owns it owns this 220 unit apartment complex in fresno. fresno leaders this week declared that state of emergency over dire conditions at somer set village apartments. they found at least 1100 code violations. pg&e shut off gas after workers found multiple berkeley apple store leaks at the complex. nonprofits have been delivers supplies to the tenants there.

the owner is sorry but didn't take responsibility for it. >> i didn't turn the gas off or cause the gas leak. it is an older building and something may have contributed to the issue. we don't know that yet. >> reporter: his attorney feels the same way. >> there are problems. but they are not necessarily the landlord's problems as much as the city problem. >> reporter: but after meeting with fresno's mayor, he says he will fix the problem. it will take two to three weeks just to fix the gas line. >> chris henry, slumlord, we are coming for you. >> reporter: chris henry grew up in sausalito and opened this restaurant in 2013. he now lives in santa barbara and has a restaurant down there. chris henry will also have to pay $300,000 in fines from the city of fresno. in sausalito, i'm da lin, kpix5. a new property management team is taking over the complex in several of the aging gas lines have already been replaced but it may be a couple

more weeks before the heat is back on. well, santa clara county homeless are a little warmer tonight. the sikh san jose donated blankets that will be distributed all over the county. they plan to donate thousands more blankets to charities around the bay area this holiday season. now, ladies and gentlemen, it is time for weather. and we are heading over to treasure island and just show you what the city looks like from that vantage point. there's clouds over much of the bay area, but not much in the way of rain. not yet. but for us, crystal clear view of the skyline. all lit up in anticipation of the holidays so it all looks mightily nice tonight. thank you mr. cousins. our ace photographer. and now, if we could look at the kpix5 high-def doppler, this montage of echoes brought to us by what is happening on

mount vaca. our doppler is showing cells spread out along the 101 and ukiah, windsor, and north from there. down in san francisco, not much yet. but after midnight tonight, the showers will be developing. concord right now, 47 degrees. oakland 50. livermore, 47. san francisco, 54. san jose, 54. santa rosa. 47. that is san jose in the background there. low pressure, a collection of low pressure systems in the gulf of alaska pin wheeling all these showers into the pacific northwest. they are going to get hammered this week. three to six inches of rain. for us, we will see a little bit of rain tonight. lingering into tomorrow morning and then clearing up in the afternoon. and not going to amount to much. maybe a quarter to a half inch in the bay. you can see it power through overnight tonight. by 11:00 in the morning, overcast skies and widely scattered showers. most of them light. and the rest of the day goes on. it dries out. maybe a few peeks of the sun as the day wears on. but again, rainfall amounts will be light. with this anyway. so the rain spread south after

midnight in the north bay. and then to the central bay area around sunrise. but it just peters out when it gets south of the golden gate bridge. what happens next? monday, tuesday, wednesday look okay then. that big subtropical path will be bringing a lot of rain into far northern california and oregon state. so three to six inches of rain for them by thursday. we are south of the tracks so we will have a mild monday through wednesday until it all sinks south. but then, by thursday, we will get rain in the bay area. not nearly as much as they are getting up in oregon. so the rain will spread south sunday. we clear it out monday. lit be nice tuesday and wednesday with more rain coming into the bay area by thursday. oakland, taking on the chiefs tomorrow. game time, we will have mostly cloudy skies. widely scattered showers. might get a little wet at the coliseum. but not much of a chance. everybody will be near 60 degrees tomorrow. and in the extended forecast, we will get a little bit wet tomorrow and then monday, tuesday, and wednesday, partly cloudy skies. for thursday, rain comes in to

so far... i know a team in anted to put a >> nba next. the number one topic? the warriors. where man. all is so perfect in the world right now. but, i know a team in toronto that wanted to put a stop to all this love fest. andrew bogut's back was barking. he had the sit this one out. steph curry, one of his nine three pointers gave the warriors a three-point lead. here came the raptors. kyle lowry scored 21 points. they took the lead!
