nearly ended it disaster. >> reporter: juliet the chp is describing it as a near misbetween one of the helicopters and the drone. >> it happened along highway -- near miss between one of the helicopters and the drone. >> reporter: it happened along the highway. the helicopter was out looking for a person that ran from a scene and then the pilot saw the drone and maneuvered around it. >> if it hit the helicopt or the blade, you are down. >> reporter: the drone was an advanced model and the cops followed it back here. the drone operator we learned is an exchange student from china. his host family tells me they are surprised about it. the studented he was going to go out and test the software. the faa says it is the responsibility of the drone operator to avoid all manned aircraft and to know the rules

it happened at 4:00 in the morning. officers say a good samaritan did stop to help the victim. tonight, they are looking for a red honda. the investigators say it is missing its right side view mirror and has damage to the right front bumper. give them a call if you happen to see something like that. >> messy pileup caused major delays this morning. 6 cars involved in the crash near the exit. it happened at 11:00. nobody was hurt. but, the off-ramp had to be closed to clone it all up. no word on if the rain played a role in the crash. the rain did make for slick streets all over the bay area today. in san francisco, umbrellas were out and windshield wipers were at work. not very hard at work. most of the area looking at tkreuzel and fog as the light showers eased up. they have not left much behaoepbd. but, kpix doppler is showing not too much.
