nearly 200 nations sign on to what white today the american people can be proud because this historic agreement is a tribute to leadership. >> rift today in france as -- history today in france as nearly 200 nations sign on to the most ambitious climate change deal in history. good evening, i'm brian hackney. >> i'm betty yu. today's breakthrough came on the 13th day of talks in paris. the deal is a huge step in the effort to reduce the world's reliance on fossil fuels. brian webb reports. >> reporter: after 10 days of talks, nearly 200 countries agreed to fight global warming by limiting greenhouse gas

emissions. they pledged to switch from burning oil, coal and gas to clean and renewable energy sources like solar power for decades to come. >> the agreement demonstrates solidarity in this ambitious flexible credible and durable. >> reporter: it calls for the global average temperature rise to be held to less than 2 degrees celsius. that's 3.6 degrees fahrenheit and even lower if possible. $100billion will be given from rich countries to poor countries to help them move away from fossil fuels. >> this agreement recognizes that we are going to have to begin to change the way we power our planet, the way we power things. >> reporter: protestors argued it won't go too far. others say it will strict countries too much. some nations have not submitted emissions targets. >> we cannot be complacent

because of today's agreement. the problem is not solved. >> reporter: the agreement sends a message to the global economy to move investments and technology toward clean energy. brian webb for cbs news, new york. >> the deal still needs to be ratified by individual governments before taking effect. a break from the rain today and a beautiful evening in the bay area. but there is more rain on the way. and that will add to one part of the state that's already taken a powder. this week's storm was a huge help for the sierra. a few feet of snow falling at the higher elevations and round 2 tomorrow will significantly help those totals. the latest kpix 5 hi-def doppler shows all the rain up north but it will all be heading south overnight. we'll roll on to the futurecast which shows the brunt of the front coming through sunday mid- morning right there in the north bay. and then it will sweep south into the south bay by midday leaving us with blustery clearing conditions by the afternoon. in terms of totals it looks like this.

tomorrow we'll get about 7/10ths in the north bay. and around a half inch in the south bay. winds also are going to be a factor with this. we'll have all the details in a few minutes. developing news out of san bernardino. the fbi is searching a lake for the third time this week looking for evidence in the massacre that left 14 people dead. investigators say the killers sayed farook and tashfeen malik visited the lake. the dive team has found several items but it's not clear if they have anything to do with the shooting. mourners packed a southern california church today to remember one of the victims. hundreds turned out for a funeral. the portrait was carried down the aisle. the service was conducted in vietnamese. a 23-year-old man is under arrest excused of setting a

fire at a mosque in coachella yesterday. worshippers moved their prayers into the street. it's just one of several incidents in the past week. some think it's backlash because of san bernardino. >> i think it was terrorism if it's because of religion. terrorism is terrorism no matter whether it's san bernardino or someone who reacts. they are both terrorists. >> the suspect faces felony charges including arson and suspicion of committing a hate crime. protestors interrupted donald trump during a campaign event. he called for muslims to be temporarily bannedment frommering the u.s. >> it was close to doing something and then -- [ screaming ] >> the crowd drowned them out by chanting trump. the quotes were removed from

the event -- protestors were removed from the event. the shops around union square wants to stop homeless from hanging outside their stars. mark kelly reports they are launching a new program called union square cares. reporter: this person says when it comes to homeless people outside his grant street store, he has seen it all. >> homeless woman who took her clothes off in front of us, really bad. >> reporter: san francisco spends $165 million every year on the homeless. that's according to a 2015 report but little has changed. >> very liberal over here. sometimes liberal doesn't work. you have to do something. you have to act. >> reporter: the union square business improvement district is doing something. union square cares is paying for a homeless outreach member to patrol this 27-square-block neighborhood and connect the homeless with the social services they need. >> it's really good what they

are doing. >> reporter: this person also supports the shopping helping the transients. he had a homeless person follow him eight blocks asking for money one time. >> i felt threatened. i had to be strong. he was very pushy. >> reporter: union square cares also has red coated ambassadors and stores handing out flyers with a homeless hotline for people to call if they see a person in need and just don't know what to do. >> not all the city's responsibility to take care of these people. it's the community's. i'm glad the businesses are pitching in. >> reporter: at union square, mark kelly, kpix 5. >> san francisco has more than 6,000 homeless half of them living full time on the streets, never in a shelter. a man is dead after he was hit by a car this morning while checking out the damage from an earlier collision. it happened just after 2 a.m. on northbound 880 near the auto mall parkway off-ramp in fremont. police say the driver of a toyota sedan hit another vehicle in the fast lane. the driver of the toyota got

out to look at the car and that's when he was hit and killed by another car. police are now trying to determine what caused the original collision. >> from what we gather, the vehicle was stalled in the fast lane. but it was disabled or -- whether it was disabled or a prior incident we don't know but it was stalled in lanes. it was hit. >> the accident called all northbound lanes on 880 for three hours. no other injuries were reported in the wreck. a historic first at l.a.x. less than a month after the united states loosened travel restrictions to cuba, american airlines jumped at the opportunity offering nonstop flights between l.a.x. and havana. today was the inaugural flight. a roundtrip ticket will be about $1,000. gas prices are on track to dip below $2 a gallon. the nationwide average of $2.02 is the lowest price since the recession. and 58 cents lower than last year. according to aaa, south

carolina has the cheapest gas at $1.79 a gallon and here in the bay area, it's $2.65. and coming up, swiss police arrested two suspected terrorists after locating a vehicle with traces of explosives. and they may be linked to the paris attacks. >> and not everyone is happy about the costumed santas invading the bay area. this year's santacon is trying to spread a little goodwill. stand bahhh!ah hear! hmmm...i have an idea! and that's why we put syrup on our pancakes! denny's new rudolph pancakes. part of the new tastes of the holidays menu. denny's. welcome to america's diner.

in the middle of her route. you can see the man -- that's the surveillance video shows a milwaukee postal worker carjacked in the middle of her route. you can see the man hop in the passenger door, that's a postal worker being shoved out of the van before the suspect just takes off with the packages inside. the truck was found abandoned later near the crime scene. the pole central work -- postal worker wasn't hurt. women in saudi arabia made history today. for the first time they can vote and run for office in government elections. saudi arabia still has strict limitations on women, though. they have to vote at separate polling stations from men and they are not allowed to drive, either. but the right to participate in elections is seen as a big step forward. developing now two people are under arrest on terror charges in switzerland where authorities have been looking

for suspects with links to the paris attacks. police say they found traces of explosives inside the suspects' vehicle. it's not clear if today's arrests are in fact linked to the attack in paris. the issue of gun violence and mass shootings were front and center today in the east bay. [ chanting ] >> a crowd of more than 100 people marched through the streets in downtown walnut creek. it was put together by moms demand action to mark the third anniversary of the mass shooting at sandy hook elementary school. >> we have to recognize that we have to have laws that will make it harder for people who want to kill people to have access to guns. >> you may notice many of the protestors are wearing orange. that's the color adopted by the antigun violence movement. two southern california gas companies may have to pay up. the first lawsuit has been filed against southern

california gas company and sempra after a natural gas leak in the san fernando valley. the leak started six weeks ago and was sickening residents and pets. hundreds of families were displaced and the valley became a no-fly zone. the santacon hit san francisco today. [ applause and cheers ] >> busloads of santas spilled out on union square for a parade and a bar crawl. they were just drinking. it also includes a toy drive hosted by the san francisco fire department. >> we have grown into one of the largest toy programs in the country. we so everyone 40000 families -- we serve over 40,000 families starting in november up to christmas. >> to donate to san francisco toy drive today, you can drop by the hotel in union square. as "star wars" fans count down the hours until the

aw definitely strong wh we're less than a week from the premiere of the highly anticipated "star wars" movie, "the force awakens." the force was definitely strong when it came to bidding for this luke skywalker toy. the rare action figure fetched $25,000 at auction. the toys were pulled off the shelves because luke's lightsaber broke easily.

"star wars" fans are already in line to see the new movie. this is what it looks like outside the iconic chinese theater in los angeles. keep in mine, the film does not hit theaters until friday. fans have to be in line for at least 24 hours in order to check out one of the first showings. and take a look at this. this gives carpool a whole new meaning. hundreds of cars unwater after days of unrelenting rain in oregon. the river rose 2 feet. this low-lying parking lot was swallowed up. officials say the river is expected to stay above flood stage through the weekend. >> we have a break between rain from this week. let go out live to san jose and have a look -- something is hang out there. probably a christmas party. betty, are you ready for the kpix 5 christmas party? >> of course! we're dressed for. >> did you bring the popcorn?

[ laughter ] >> popcorn is cooking. 57 degrees in concord right now. 55 oakland. livermore 55. 56 at san francisco. 56 san jose. 54 for santa rosa. here's how it looks from the satellite. low pressure spinning in over vancouver island is going to be producing showers that are already working their way into far northern california and you can see the cloud shield in advance of it is working its way down toward the bay area right now. for the futurecast, let's revisit this. we're going to expect more than an inch of rain at ukiah. santa rosa 7/10ths. same for san rafael. san francisco .5" rain by monday night. south bay more in the order of half inch or less but this will be a fairly robust system when it comes through. it's been raining all day up in the far north today but as that low sinks south we are going to see that jet shift enough so we get the front sweeping through tomorrow and the timing on it we'll nail down in a minute.

but in the meantime up to 1.5" from parts of northern sonoma county and .75" rain in the south bay for sun, more of course at the higher elevations than down below. the futurecast draws a bead when this comes through. first some light showers overnight in advance of the front that powers through at about 9 a.m. into the city. and from that point, it gets down to the south bay around 11 a.m. it leaves us with a bunch of residual popcorn showers here and there. but by tomorrow afternoon, we'll be clearing it up and probably get a beautiful sunset out of it. a few lingering showers sunday night and that would about do it. at the same time, wind will be a factor really picks up as the front sinks south. 5 a.m. you can see santa rosa 31-mile- an-hour winds. a little bit stronger as the front comes through and bang, we are up to the mid-30s in terms of wind gusts tomorrow morning so windy, blustery, and wet in the wake of this system that's coming through tomorrow for the bay area. high surf warning still up through tonight with exceptionally high surf riptides possible, sneaker

waves likely so be careful at the beaches or at the mountains, too. they are getting two feet of snow at pass level for tomorrow. the heaviest snow between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. tomorrow at the sierra. so to sum it up, we have increasing clouds tonight, rain spreading south tomorrow morning and it will be a sunny and dry week ahead after that. heading out of the bay area, rain just about everywhere you look except in the mountains, where the rain turns to snow. the extended forecast, blustery cold wet on sunday morning. clearing in the afternoon. monday we'll go to partly cloudy skies. look at tuesday, wednesday and thursday for a switch. looks like sunshine and friday and saturday, we'll begin to cloud up again but we are going to water the lawn again tomorrow and not do a lot more than that. batten down the hatches. it will be stormy and turbulent. quite of opposite of that in andrea. how are you, my dear. >> very calm, thank you so much. coming up in sports, vern joins from us denver for a preview of the raiders versus the broncos and a nail-biter from the east bay as cal and saint mary's face off for the first time since 2004. sports is right after the

bears hosted saint mary's f andrea nakano joins with us sports? >> the warriors are playing now. >> yes. college hoops to start off with. >> they are a good game this afternoon and we don't get to see this matchup very often. today the cal bears hosted saint mary's for the first time since 2004. the bears with only two losses on the season looking to stay perfect at home. randy bennett saint mary's

squad entered saturday perfect 6-0. the bears led in the first half. but saint mary's 1-point lead under two minutes to play. cal by one. saint mary's joe rayhon drives and scores on the layup giving the lead back to the gaels. 20-second to go, wallace to byrd who fires from long range and cal now up by two. so next possession wallace fouls rayhon with two seconds left sending saint mary's to the line. but rayhon on a one-on-one misses the first of the one-on- one and brown grabs the rebound for cal. the bears win a close one 63- 59. cal is 8-2 on the season while saint mary's suffers their first loss this season. the finish of the day comes from number 3 north carolina visiting texas. final seconds tied at 82. longhorns isaiah taylor misses a jumper but the ball goes right back out to jahvon who makes it at the buzzer. just getting it off before the

clock. texas upsets third ranked tar heels 84-82. in the junior college state championship, city college of san francisco beat saddleback 26-14 to win the california and national titles. it's the rams' tenth national championship. in the nfl after losing four of the last five gaels, the play-offs may be out of reach for the raiders but there's still some hope left. a win over the division leading broncos tomorrow would certainly help. that's where we find our very own vern glenn at a very chilly mile high stadium. >> reporter: andrea, nasty weather seems to follow me wherever i go. snow flurries have blanketed the denver area. maybe the elements can be a great equalizer for the raiders! a return for jack del rio, who was defensive coordinator not last three years here. broncos got to respect 'em. peyton manning who was 7-0

against the raiders since joining denver is gone. osweiler 3-0 as a starter and building confidence. the confidence not lacking the raiders on both sides of the ball especially at the wide receiver position. many are curious to see how michael crabtree responds. this will be his first game since signing his four-year contract extension. >> i think it's great, you know, because, um, you know, you hear that people, you know, don't want to come to oakland, you know, don't want to play in oakland. um, but i think things are starting to change. now, i think, um, you know, with crabtree, you know, signing his deal, you know, other free agents will take notice. they will want to know why you want to stay around here, why you want to play in oakland. he will be i think a great ambassador for the team. >> there's a bright future on the horizon. we have a lot of blocks in place to have a really good football team going forward. there's a lot of energy in this building, a lot of positive energy that has been sustained

he was asked, what was his biggest impression of the bay area during his time with the a's? >> hotels are great.
