wrong winner. >> miss universe 2015 is colombia! miss universe 2015 is philippines. good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. at least one person was killed and dozens injured when a woman drove her car onto a sidewalk in las vegas. the victims were walking on a busy stretch of the vegas strip. the driver is being held by police who say the crash was not terrorism, but it was intentional. maurice marona of our las vegas station klax has our report. >> reporter: part of the same las vegas strip was blocked off overnight as authorities began piecing together what led a female driver in her 20s to mow

down at least 37 pedestrians near the paris casino sunday night. >> we have determined this is an intentional act. that means that our lvmpd homicide section will be handling the investigation. >> reporter: witnesses were less -- left in shock when a toddler was in the back seat. >> it didn't look like she was trying to stop the car. she had both of her hands on the wheel and was looking straight forward. >> reporter: this is one of several people who tried to stop the vehicle as it drove on the sidewalk, possibly three times. >> i was running down the middle of the street and there was two other guys running with me. we were yelling, like, move, get out of the way, stop! then three guys that were trying to punch out the window. >> reporter: authorities also plan to look for surveillance video in the area. they are also questioning the driver to see if alcohol or drugs played a factor. >> we have a drug recognition, officers that will check to see if the driver of that vehicle was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and we also would either take, you know, blood or

breath in regards to see if they were intoxicated. >> reporter: officials say several people remain hospitalized. the driver of the car, along with the toddler, were not hurt. cbs news, las vegas, nevada. a bail hearing is scheduled today for enrique marquez who faces federal charges in the san bernardino shooting. marquez allegedly bought the assault rifles used in the attack that left 14 people dead. he was a childhood friend and neighbor of gunman syed farook and allegedly plotted other attacks that were never carried out. the isis terrorists in paris used encrypted apps to cover their attack. that allowed them to keep their plot secret. charlie rose interviewed tim cook of apple on "60 minutes." the interview with cook was before the paris attack but cook says his position remains the

evangelicals. don champion is here in new york with more on that. good morning, don. >> reporter: good morning. it isn't that donald trump is losing ground. the numbers are changing because ted cruz is picking up support. today, cruz is in the middle of a 12-city swing that will take him through the south. >> doing well. having a wonderful sunday in alabama. >> reporter: as he climbs up the polls, ted cruz has taken a page out of donald trump's playbook. an aggressive sharp tone and an effort to stir up supporters. here's what he had to say about president obama's take on foreign policy, specifically his trip to paris for the global warming summit. >> what kind of numb skull thinks that the suv in your driveway is a bigger threat to our security than a bunch of lunatics who want to kill us? >> reporter: in iowa and new hampshire, more than 60% of republican voters say terrorism and security are their biggest concerns.

yesterday, trump reiterated his call to ban muslims from entering the country. >> the problem is a very serious problem. you have a radicalization of people, they happen to be islamic. >> reporter: fellow republican marco rubio blasted trump. >> he came up with something spectacular and outrageous so that people would respond to it and he could recapture the headlines. it's not a serious proposal. >> reporter: trump's comments have not hurt him. a vast of voters in new hampshire and iowa are glad somebody said them, they need to be discussed. during saturday's democratic presidential debate, hillary clinton also took aim at trump. >> he is becoming isis best recruiter. they are going to people, showing videos of donald trump insulting islam and muslims. >> reporter: trump says clinton has no basis for her claim. >> it's just another hillary lie. she lies like crazy about everything. >> reporter: now trump still leads the republican field in new hampshire and south

carolina. as does hillary clinton on the democratic side. while bernie sanders holds a big lead in new hampshire. >> don champion here in new york, thank you, don. coming up on "cbs this morning," we will be joined by two presidential candidates, senator bernie sanders and we will discuss his performance in saturday's democratic debate. and major garrett goes one-on-one with new jersey governor chris christie. during saturday's democratic debate, hillary clinton was late coming back after the break and the moderator began reading a question before she returned. >> sorry. >> clinton's campaign explained the delay saying the ladies' room was a farther walk from the debate stage than the men's room. the pacific northwest begins christmas week bracing for new wet weather. a series of storms will bring heavy rain, wind and more than a foot of snow to the mountains. a slow moving landslide is forcing residents out of two oregon city apartment complexes.

portland is on track for its wettest december on record. spokane, washington, is under a winter storm warning as snowfall blankets that area. meteorologist eric fisher of our boston station wbz has the holiday week forecast. >> reporter: white christmas, the west is where you want to be. it is essentially a lock, but in the east, about a zero percent chance and this is the reason why. a big surge of warmth again moving its way eastbound and culminating on christmas eve. what is warm in late december is 60s and 70s and even 80s on the eastern seaboard. boston near 70 degrees and new york over 70 and d.c. nearing 80 degrees. in fact, dozens of heat records could be set this week. heat records! there was a fender bender at burbank bob hope airport in southern california. two southwest jets bumped wing tips yesterday. one plane was backing out of its gate when it nicked the wing of a parked jet. there were no reported injuries. both planes were pulled from service for inspection.

"the washington post" reports on a phony bomb discovered aboard an air france flight.

the boeing 777 bound for paris from an island made an emergency landing in kenya yesterday. a passenger discovered the fake bomb hidden in the airplane bathroom. investigators say it was put there during the flight. the boston herald reports on the closing of all nashua new hampshire, schools on monday, over a threat of violence. the district calls the e-mail threat against two high schools specific and detail. the fbi has joined the investigation into its credibility. more than 11,000 students will be kept home. the "atlanta journal-constitution" reports on the death of jimmy carter's grandson. the 39th president said 28-year-old jeremy died early sunday at the hospital. the cause is unclear. carter shared the news with his church just hours after his grandson's death and then went on to teach sunday school. "the star ledger of new jersey" reports on a boy scout leader who survived a bear attack.

and the skit wouldn't be complete without an appearance from poehler's co-host, tina fey and reprises her host as sarah palin. gas prices skid. hena daniels is at the new york stock exchange with that and more. good morning. good news if you drive. the price of gas hasn't been this low since 2009. the price tracking website gaslead.com says the national average of regular dropped to $1.99. gas has fallen below $2 in 30 states. prices have dropped because supplies are strong and demand hasn't been huge. those gas prices are being pushed down by the dramatic drop in the price of oil. u.s. crude prices have dropped about 20% since late november. this morning, crude hit its lowest price since 2008. and that is affecting stock. on wall street, the dow jones lost 140 points for the wem.

week. s&p six points lower and nasdaq is 12 points lower. tonight is the biggest night for the u.s. postal service. more than 30 million packages are expected to be delivered today! nearly 600 million packages are expected to be delivered between thanksgiving and christmas. if you want a package delivered by christmas, the deadline for priority mail express is on wednesday. the faa's drone registration website opens today. owners must submit their names, home address, and e-mail address to a national database. a registration number is required for drones weighing from half a pound to 55 pounds. if you already own a drone, you have until february 19th to register. if you're getting a drone, you have to register before its first flight. "star wars: the force awakens" is a force to be reckoned with and having the largest north american debut ever! the force awakens brought in $238 million in ticket sales

winner in sunday's miss universe pageant in las vegas. she wiped away celebratory tears and waves her country's flag. the miss universe sash is draped across her chest and the crown is placed on her head, but her celebration is short-lived. moments later, host steve harvey takes the stage and tells the audience there has been a very big mistake. >> i have to apologize. the first runner-up is colombia. >> the audience and the contestants are stunned. more than the real winner, miss philippines. harvey explained that he had read the card wrong. >> horrible mistake, but the

right thing. i can show it to you right here. the first runner-up is columbia. it is my mistake. >> miss philippines still appears to be stunned as she returned to center stage. the crown is taken from miss columbia and placed on her head. it looks like it might take more than a miracle to beat the carolina panthers this year. the undefeated panthers holding a 35-7 lead over the new york giants on sunday and for a while, it looked like it would be a meadowlands miracle as new york scores four straight touchdowns in the second half. but after tying the score, the giants leave too much time on the clock and the panthers boot a game winning field goal with no time left! carolina improves to 14-0 with a 38-35 win. the giants star receiver odell beckham jr. could face fines and a possible suspension. he was flagged for three personal fouls for going after carolina's josh norman throughout the game. at one point, beckham is seen blindsiding norman.

the university of kansas took ugly holiday sweaters to a whole new record setting level. jayhawks fans wore their christmas worst to the men's college basketball game yesterday and that set a new guinness world record of 3,473 ugly sweaters worn all at once. the old record was shy of 2,300. a skier injured at a major crash at this week's world cup of downhill ski racing but a revolutionary system is credited for saving him from injury. contessa brewer reports. >> whoa! >> reporter: austrian olympic
