david bowie. tina krause looks back at the life of the british artist. ♪ ground control to major tom ♪ >> reporter: david bowie was one of a kind, from his first hit 1969's space oddity to his most recent album released last week, he kept his audience checking. ♪ changes >> reporter: bowie kept changing. >> he really did have it all. >> reporter: this man is a bowie biographer. >> we've lost somebody who rewrote the rules, who redefined what a popstar could be. >> reporter: he was born david jones in london in 1947. he told cbs in 2002 he always knew he was an artist. >> i mean, until quite late in my teens, i didn't know if i was gonna be a musician or painting. i kept vacillateing back and

forth. i opted for music. >> reporter: it was a decision that influenced generations of performers. >> there would be no madonna, no lady gaga without david bowie. he showed them hout to make art and celebrity. >> reporter: this morning fans left flowers and candles on his star on the hollywood walk of fame. some of the most powerful tributes can be found here in the neighborhood where he was born. >> you can listen to music at any age and still pick up what it meant in the '70s. it's timeless. it's like the light's gone out in the world. he's not here. >> reporter: and his testament to bowie's broad appeal spans from madonna to kanye west, to the british prime minister tweeting their console lens -- cop dole lenses in. >> iggy pop tweeted he was the

light of my life. i never met such a brilliant person. he was the best there is. and paul mccartney said i'm proud to think of the huge enfluns he's had on people all around the world. fans have been gathering outside of his home leaving candles, flowers and messages. and here in the bay area our sister station paid tribute to the singer during their morning show. >> weiss one of my all-time favorite artists. he has musical offsprings everywhere in every again raw from like gaga to manson just to put some names to it. >> bowie celebrated his 69th birthday last friday. in other news -- back to court over the santa clara soccer fields as we count down to super bowl 50, some south bay leagues are making new demands. kiet do is live in san jose with the newest demand. >> reporter: yeah, good afternoon.

the judge said up front he's not issuing a ruling until tomorrow morning. he's hoping that both sides can meet at a coffee shop and work this thing out between the two of them so he does not have to get involved. the whole hearing lasted only about an hour or so and everybody left the courtroom and both sides submitted long briefs that the judge read and he spent the time asking questions for clarification. the nfl do not want to be adversarial, they've been acting in good faith all of this time. the soccer league said they will be happy if they would be promised of dates and times where they can play their makeup games. the soger field lost their first week. the city said they are well within their right to let the nfl borrow the soccer field. so they moved to move it into a media village, punching holes in laying down sheathing. the soccer league said there's been a lot of talk and

promises. what they want are specific dates for makeup games on the weekends when most of the kids play. >> but today, nothing is concrete yet. as we explained in court, we are looking for commitments -- we need availability on the weekends. that's when all of these games are being played. right now, that's -- that commitment we don't have. >> we've been working around the clock to try to communicate the availability of additional fields to the soccer league. i do anticipate we'll have further discussions on that to try to give them some specificity on hen when those fields are available and when they can play. >> reporter: and the second person you saw talking there was santa clara's district attorney. very early in the process but you get the feeling that both sides are trying to work something out. if not, the judge will issue the ruling tomorrow morning. we're live in downtown san jose, kiet do. >> sadly along with the super bowl comes a criminal element. new at noon, kpix 5's jackie

ward said law enforcement is preparing for human trafficking. >> reporter: anna hubbard was a mother of three by the age of 20 when she says she was looking for septemberance in all of the wrong -- september acceptance in all of the wrong places. >> there's glamorous about waking up in the morning and wishing you didn't wake up. you know what the rest of the day holds for you. >> reporter: she was trafficked from atlanta to l.a. and multiple cities in between. >> when i woke up in a room full of men climbing on top of me one at a time, i realized that nothing was worth selling my soul. but by then, the shame and the guilt were overwhelming. >> reporter: preventing this from happening to anyone else is her mission, especially as the super bowl approaches. >> so often on the airplane and in the airport, what we see are people who are victims that don't always understand that they are being victimized or what's getting ready to happen

to them. >> reporter: this woman is the founder and director of the bay area anti-trafficking coalition. >> it would be a misnomer to just say that by having a super bowl it means there's an automatic increase in trafficking. it's the increase in aware insurance about the issue. >> reporter: airplanes are an easy way for pimps to traffic people. if someone lacks luggage or personal items and is accompanied by someone far bether dressed by them or if they are fearful of security -- personnel dash, that's are some hints. >> reporter: if you are flying and suspect someone may be forced against their will and may be a victim of human trafficking, tell your flight attendant immediately. we're now less than four weeks away from super bowl sunday. february 7th. if you can't make it to the game, you can gaffe the game right here. >> raider fans could know if their team is staying put or packing up. the nfl is meeting in houston

and they are expecting to vote on relocation proposals. raiders would like to move to l. and l. around and share a stadium with the chargers. but the rams also hope to call l.a. home, either move requires 24 of the leagues's 32 owners to sign off. and we're keeping tabs on all of the talks. she will will be reporting live from houston, give you the details as the meetings unfold. no sign of the suspect of the killing aboard a crowded b.a.r.t. train. >> i see a lot of people standing outside of the train. if there's anything going on, contact the train operator. >> cell phone video captures the shooting. one rider said the shooter had no plans to stick around. >> it happened so quick. started shooting and then he got off b.a.r.t. and ran. >> the victim has not been identified. the gunman is described as african-american, 6'3" with a slim build and bald.

b.a.r.t. has not released any video from inside the train. a bizarre fight inside a sikh temple is captured on cell phone cameras. it shows members swiking swords and police moving in with tasers. this happened saturday at a temple in turlock, where members have been fighting over leadership for years. some people suffered minor cuts and bruises. more than a dozen police ficers responded. no bun was -- no one was arrested. cars vandalized outside of the martinez detention facility. police say 35-year-old chelsey was caught in the act early this morning had just left the facility minutes earlier after being charged with throwing rocks and a hospital door. still no sign of a missing uc berkeley student. her mercedes was found saturday near the point reyes lighthouse. 22-year-old grad student was last seen thursday in berkeley. she was supposed on on a flight thursday to china but never got

on. her family said she may have been depressed. daly city police are looking for this woman. they say 25-year-old denise davis hit an officer with her car as they attempted to arrest her for a previous vehicular assault. took off on foot after hitting that officer on friday, hat not been seen since. we checked out powerball tickets and well --well back to that story and we headed back to work this morning. >> right. we didn't win. >> that jackpot keeps growing it and is hitting uncharted territory. at last check, it's estimated at $1.4 billion. you can see it's never been so high. check out the lottery signs. they run out of space for all of those numbers. they show the jackpot stuck at $999 million. the lump sum would be $868 million. i'll take it. >> we'll take it.

released of the dramatic capture of drug lord joaquin "el chapo" guzman. the mexican government showing off the work of marines as they raid the hideout of joaquin guzman. authorities say he was hiding in the house in the video but managed to get away during a shootout. he was later captured on a highway nearby. don champion says the next step is to bring guzman here to the united states. >> reporter: drug king pin joaquin "el chapo" guzman is back in the same mexican prison he tunneled out of six months ago but his days there may be numbered. mexican authorities have begun the process of sending guzman to the u.s. to face charges. while his lawyers have filed motions to fight extradition, a u.s. law enforcement source told cbs news he's expected to be in the u.s. within the next four to six weeks. guzman was captured friday after a violent shootout with mexican marines. he had been on the run since

july always managing to stay one step ahead of investigators. his downfall may have been a meeting with actor sean penn in october. mexico's attorney general says guzman reefed out to producers and actors because he wanted to make a biographical film about himself. one actress helped bring penn and guzman together. the two were photographed during the secret rahn devary in a mexican jungle and authorities say that helped them find guzman. after years denying he was in the drug trade, guzman told penn and rolling stone magazine, i supply more heaun, methamphetamine -- more heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine and marijuana than anyone else in the word. those words may haunt him if he faces trial in the u.s. don champion, cbs news new york. guzman's defense has three days to present arguments against extradition. one of the bay area's most

popular tourist spots could be closed on weekends and holidays. vista point is just famous for gridlock as it is for the views. traffic gets so bad during peak times, the traffic backs up on northbound 101. phil matir reports one idea is to close it during the busiest times. another idea, run shuttle buses from the presidio and marin on heavy visitor days. crowd control behind a project at muir woods. starting today, 300 parking spaces are being removed. the national park service is developing aparking and reservation system. expect delays. check this out. check it out. this was monday morning. in buffalo, new york. this is when you just give up and stay home and say april is coming. >> yes. >> you are forced to give up unless you have an ice pick.

how do you get in the car. >> i think you have to take a picture and send it to your boss and say i'm not gonna make it here today. none of that here. we're downright balmy compare to that with temperatures in the 60s. take a look at high-def doppler. we're seeing stray showers but they are below our radar. you can see here just gray skies. you might get some drizzle out there from time to time. we're not talking full-mown rain enough to make it a gray, deary day. temperatures in the 50s. already near 60 in san jose. we will be warming up in the low 60s for the south bay today. so what we're looking at now, this is the remnants of storm number 6. high pressure really blocking. it's what's waiting in the wings, storm number 7 that will bring us a good dose of rain later this week. in fact, rain and wind along with it. we'll time it out. as you can see, today, we're just overcast, gray, a couple

of stray showers from time to time a little bit of drizzle. not amounting to very much. we pause it at 7:00 tuesday night. now, not tonight but tuesday night. you can see the front still to our north. it moves in and this latest model run brings it in earlier than what we saw earlier. brings it in overnight, this is the mowning commute. we're still seeing rain at this point. we're -- the models are indicating it should be in the south bay by then. but expect showers throughout the morning hours and the first half of the day on wednesday. and then starting to dissipate toward the latter half of the day on wednesday. the heaviest rainfall late tuesday into wednesday. light showers possible today. scattered showers at best. a dry break tomorrow and then a stronger storm arrives on tuesday night into wednesday. tonight's sunset 5:10. sunrise tomorrow morning, 7:25. here is a look at your high temperatures. the low 60s for the south bay, mid-50s for -- right around the bay, right around san francisco, oakland. upper 50s in some.

on camera is now going viral a good samaritan's act of kindness is caught on camera. check it out. it shows a good samaritan removing his own shirt and giving it to a homeless man shivering on the subway even took the time to help the fellow rider time to put the t- shirt on. even gave him his cap. tesla is trying to ease the pain of parallel parking. the company showed off software that enables a vehicle to park them itself. owners of the s and s suvs line up their cars about 30 feet from the spot. they waive their card and tesla did the rest. this should not be tried on public roads yet. many drivers will have money to spare the start of 2016 because gas prices are going down. the national average price fell below $2 for the first time since march of 2009. the cheapest gas is in st. louis at 1.57. of course the prices in the bay ar are not quite as low.

san francisco, $2.82. well, you want something special for that asked. >> if you do, tony says why not try dragon fruit. >> taste of the day is gonna be with dragon fruit. look at how beautiful this fruit is, this dragon fruit. it's used in asian communities. as a matter of fact, you can find it in many asian supermarkets. now it's making its way to the mainstream. it's wonderful. it looks intimidating. what do i do with this? you cut it in half and then this looks like this. then you get a spoon and you just eat it. it's like dessert. i'm not kidding you. the texture is wonderful. the sugar, the sweetness, you will love this. when you buy them, you want to make sure that there's this beautiful color all the way around. very beautiful. heavy for their size. when you bring them home it's tropical fruit. store it at room temperature.
