scrambling to make a formal statement. a week after he was taking a step back from social media, jed york said on twitter: and the internet is already abuzz with what many people are saying is a controversial hire. kelly is the former head coach of the philadelphia eagles where he spent the last three seasons and was fired before the last season even ended with one game left on the schedule. kelly made a name for himself as an offensive genius at the university of oregon but that magic didn't translate to the nfl. his record with the eagles is 26-21. the eagles clinched the nfc east in the first year with the team but they didn't make the play-offs the next two years and there have been numerous reports for months about players accusing kelly of racism something that the 9er front office will be questioned about when they make the announcement. now, all of this comes just 10 days after the 9ers announced the firing of former head coach

jim tomsula. he was widely admired by the players and they speak fondly of him. it will be interesting to see how chip kelly is received since cbs sports reported last fall that eagles players weren't fond of the way kelly manages a team, runs very fast hard practices and is a micro- manager. players know this. wide receiver torrey smith just tweeted that he would have to start running now to get into shape. but all this could be great news for quarterback colin kaepernick. he was benched halfway through the season and then multiple reports that the eagles and chip kelly were interested in kaepernick with many analysts calling him a perfect pick for kelly's offensive style. so will there be a colin kaepernick version 2.0? there will be no on camera statements today from the front office. that will be next week. kiet do, kpix 5. with more on what in means for the future of the 49ers we are joined on the phone by kpix 5 sports anchor vern glenn. what do you think, thumbs up, thumbs down? >> reporter: well, i think it's
