>> i'm frank mallicoat. street closures and detours around san francisco's super bowl city are being put to the test today and driving through downtown will be an yog gl challenge for the next three weeks. now in effect, the southbound lanes from the embarcadero to don chi way, market is closed to beale street and stewart is closed from market to don chi. jackie ward is live where officials were not surprised on how things went on day one. >> reporter: you are exactly fright. things went exactly as they planned. in their defense, they have been planning for this around warning us about this. still, we had a lot of commuters very upset. >> it's awful. it's upsetting they decided to do this in the financial district. >> reporter: cheryl broadway's commute from novato typically

takes 50 minutes but her was was part of the bat rit street backup and didn't make it to her stop at the meridian. >> i got off six blocks from here and it still stuck back four blocks. >> reporter: telecommuting is not an issue. >> beyond frustration. i knew it was gonna be bad but i didn't realize it would be that bad. >> reporter: some commuters are thinking of different things. >> i will probably take the ferry. hopefully they won't screw that up as well. >> reporter: anything will beat this. gridlock traffic blocked up the embarcadero for hours during the prime time morning commute hours of 7:00 to 9:00 but bicyclists didn't seem too bent out of shape about it. >> not a football fan. don't really care. this is a pain in the butt. >> reporter: traffic officials continue to drive home the point that driving in should be your last resort. >> so far, it's going according to plan. people -- it seems like people

are getting the message as far as taking transit. we have reports that muni has crowded. >> reporter: if you have to drive, people your ears and eyes open. 90 police officers are directing traffic all trying to get to work. but but is all of this congestion worth it? >> maybe if suspects was playing, no, it's not. >> reporter: my photographer and i took a loop around the closures. it took 50 minutes. from the embarcadero, jackie ward, exiks. >> the main reason is the area around construction around super bowl bowl city. it covers the waterfront. and attractions include games, and ult mable stages for live

performances. construction work has been happening for 13 hours a day from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. most building are from out of town. many are from new york, others from england. >> we take it all over the place. building things in the state and around europe. >> security has been brought in to make sure the curious keep their distance and all of the hard work stays intact but people are allowed to take photos and videos. in the south bay, plaza seer that vez -- cesar chavez is being transformed. there will be live music, a beer garden and cafe. tickets are already soaring at seatgeek.com is more than $3400. club seats have sold for $12,000 each.

old kyle myrick are conducting several searches in mountain view and the stevens creek reservoir. he was last seen on friday at the motorcycle shop where he works. police arrested this man, steve lebo over the weekend, in wex can the case. officers checked a nearby building and discovered a crime scene. investigators are not releasing many details. they believe the victim is dead but myrick's home is holding out hope he's alive. >> he loved motorcycles. he was was just friendly. had -- had a good sense of humor. just a gun guy to be around. >> police have recovered the suspect's pickup truck and believe it may have been used in the alleged crime. and we're getting our first look of what an unidentified woman found dead in saratoga may have looked. this the police released this facial approximation created by the fbi. the woman identified as jane

door. debris crashing onto the rocks below. that building had been evacuated and red tagged long ago. earlier this month, this washing was taped to his door saying he and a dozen of the people in the same building might have to evacuate, too. remember the 60-feet siksdz of the sea wall along beach boulevard that collapsed? a big chunk fell off over the weekend. police have guarding the area around the clock. the city manager has declared a state of emergency to try to adhere secure money for repairs. this man says it's all a hard lesson for property owners of oceanfront properties. >> the ocean takes a lot of land. >> reporter: the ocean always wins? >> yes. >> reporter: the city is set to

remembered today. she submittedside eight days after being sexually assaulted at a house party. the film was made by a team of san francisco filmmakers who wanted to cover the sexual assault and the cyber shaming that followed. the alleged perpetrators' perspective are included in the film. three escapees still on the run this afternoon in a southern california. they used a rope made of bed sheets to rappel from the fourth floor roof of the orange county jail on friday. investigators suspect they have help and are still in the area. >> it seems like they dut way through half-inch steel bars, cut their way through the plumbing and cut their way through the roof. from the roof, the inmates rappelled down to the ground. >> the sheriff's department says it's notified victims of crimes to these three escapees. they say the men should be considered armed and dangerous. and a pair of fugitives had to be rescued over the sierra.

police were trying to pull over the men on highway 50 when they ran off into the woods. the men called 911 asking to rescue. ed police say they were freezing to death. they were taken to a waiting ambulance and take on a jail. a bumpy for rail airline passengers. what happened that sent several to the hospital. >> and they are digging out in the east coast. good afternoon, everyone. snow there. we're tracking rain here. when you will need that umbrella again. we'll have the details as the news continues right here. ,,,, ,,,,,,,,,,,,

the blizzard is at least 32. many of those people died while trying to shovel mountains of snow. craig boswell reports from new york, a city that's essentially shut down. >> reporter: people spent the morning digging out cars buried in snow. about two feet of snow is on the ground in the nation's capital. more than enough to close federal offices and schools today. residents around here are not used to shoveling this much snow. >> a lot of people are not really fit for the job. >> it's dangerous. >> yes, it's dangerous. >> reporter: many streets remain unplowed and impassable. some drivers are deciding to stop near the street, get out of the car and walk where they need to go. >> we are still in a snow emergency in washington, d.c. i'm operating under a state of emergency in the district as well. >> reporter: and d.c. is not alone. at least five states reported getting at least 30 inches of snow. new york city has lifted its travel ban and schools are open.

young son. new york mom is alive thanks to the brave actions of her high-tech savvy young son. >> the 4-year-old loves playing games on his tablet. well, last week his diabetic mother became unconscious while on the phone. the boy's father tried calling the house. got no answer and then called the ipad. >> daddy was calling me and when i saw that button, i pushed it. hi, daddy. it has a cell phone on it. >> i think that him using the tablet is the reason why she's still here with us today. i had no idea he knew how to unlock the tablet. that is what the first time ever. >> the boy's father told him emergency crews were on their way and to let them in and that allowed them to help save his mom. well, most people hunker down during this weekend's storm on the east coast, take a

look at this panda. couldn't get enough of the fresh powder. was bathing in it. he wasn't cold. >> i think he was enjoying that, too. >> yeah. it's great for a quick snack or to dress up a salad. tony tantillo is shopping for tangerines. >> well, taste of the day will be with these beautiful tangerines. no seeds, easy to peel. delicious. the stems are still attached to them. you should store them on the counter. now, orange all the way, best way to select. any citrus you buy you want to make sure it's heavy. when it's easy to peel, look at that. great for the kids, great if you are in a hurry. you can't beat that.
