we are live from the plaza overlooking the action. this will be our broadcast home for the next week, and it's the perfect vantage point for the biggest super bowl party ever. we will be here for all of it. >> the party is under way in the south bay tonight. this fireworks show wrapped up for a day-long celebration in santa clara. >> we are live in super bowl city. we are live at levis. there is a kick off in santa clara. we will check in with all of them in a bit. shocking weather in the bay area. wind, rain, even thunderstorms. hail is blanketing the area now. this is what it looked like

going through napa hours ago. pea-sized hail in pleasanton. wind advisories tonight may have sent trees down on cars. all of this in the wake of a system that stormed into southern california leaving cold, unstable air behind. a few remnant showers in the south bay should dry up over night. you will see the diablow range as well. it was first el nino blamed for sliding homes in san francisco. a new theory based on this photograph. if you look close, you can see the tell tale signs of a slow

motion disaster. one house has been demolished because it was headed down the hill. others are in danger. what is causing the problem? kristin? >> this was the home that was once standing. it has been demolished and taped. a leaky water pipe may have put them on the brink of collapse. how bad the leak was, an 8-inch break fueling a hill side to slide. >> this isn't el nino. this is a significant source of water that saturated the hill. >> the department of water and power knew it was there. there were signs of a leak for a month. >> we know from the neighbors

down the hill they have been experiencing water in their garages for the past month. it was all new within a month. >> they found the break this morning. 230 feet from what is left of the home. the pipe is capped but they are not finished yet. the investigation into the instability is ongoing. they are not sure if it was directly connectioned to the incident. those on the brink of collapse, this is a relief. they will try to drill a well to take out additional water. they will keep an eye on this area and the homes out here. >> back to the biggest story in

building the closer and closer we get to the game. >> the city is throwing a party. we are checking it out. >> this is an opportunity for the bay area to be spotlight. this is wonderful opportunity for all of -- everybody. >> i'm a santa clara resident. it's huge. a lot of parties going on. it is a little out of my price range, $4,000 seats, but it will bring in revenue for businesses here. >> things are just getting started in the south bay. there will be another concert next saturday. it will be huey lewis and the news. >> this is where it will go down. the field is painted and ready. gold is all the rage, all over the stadium for super bowl 50.

the teams arrived a few hours ago under tight security. those are sharp shooters on the roof keeping close watch. >> wow. a charter touched down. this is the 8th super bowl appearance. that is peyton manning off the plane. this is the panthers second appearance. the teams will face off one week from now. >> all right. if you are a broncos fan you got to see your team today f you are a panthers fan or the media you are not so lucky. an unforgetable moment for die hard broncos fans. the team arrived in the south bay today. >> get em peyton.

kpix5. thank you. welcome to the bay area. the teams may be in the south bay but the action is in super bowl city. >> let's look. this is time lapse of the thousands of fans who came through today. thousands who will be joined by a million before the week is out. they had to wait in the security line, which snaked all the way down market street. some people complained about the waiting. you hit the real traffic on the way to work tomorrow. >> reporter: hey, the wind has really whipped up. it has gotten cold. the crowd is dissipating. you can still come down here and get in line. if you are a commuter you will be no stranger on a line.

super bowl city opens at 11:00 a.m. anyone wanting to go through the grounds needs to go through a bag check. volunteers will direct computers on the ferry and will have to do it again. >> you should know the spear street entrance is closed. >> right behind wells fargo. >> just this entrance on spear. they will reopen this entrance during morning commute hours between 6:45 and 9:45 a.m. >> how did you get here? >> drove. no traffic. >> after you find a parking spot, if you find one, you will have to go through another layer of security. >> is it all worth it?

it is windy enough to fly an iron kite. there is electronic production and green boards, but that is real. we are in the elements and getting blown around pretty good. >> it is chilly. we have double layers. we are not complaining. what a backdrop even with the lights behind us. it is beautiful. >> it is exciting. we will have a successful newscast if we get through it without our nose running. >> we're okay. >> it is cold. it is a little wet in the south way with showers. we had a dusting of snow, lingering showers east of san jose. most of it will dry up over night. all the action will be taking place less than a week from now, numbers are plummeting.
