now. good afternoon, i'm michelle griego. >> hi, everyone. i'm frank mallicoat. here at sens restaurant, right below is us super bowl city and you can hear a little music going on down there, can't you guys? ♪[ music ] >> yes. there was a marching band out there earlier. so this is great. >> we love checking the countdown clock because that super bowl is getting closer and closer just four days away now. kpix 5's cate caugiran is close by at justin herman plaza with new security measures just revealed. cate. tell us all about it. >> reporter: frank, yes, i'm just outside super bowl city where security is a top priority. it's also a top priority with our transit agencies. we have told you in the past about possible random screenings on our ferries. if you have gone to any super bowl-related event, you know everyone is required to go through these metal detectors even if you are just trying to get to work in this area. kpix 5 did get an exclusive loo into tsa's security plans. at san francisco international airport we were invited to meet

the newest addition to the security team, k-9s. tsa says over the next couple of days, both sfo and san jose's mineta airports are adding more k-9 screening teams, dozens more. >> the dog will walk through among the people. the dog will be searching the air currents in the area. >> reporter: and on the ground, even underground, bart, vta and muni riders should expect an increased police presence, as well. this morning tsa and bart representatives say it's part of their visible intermodal prevention and response operations. the hope is, more security will cut down on crime. just in san francisco alone we are expected to get an extra 1 million visitors a day so security officials say they are not taking any chances. live outside super bowl city, cate caugiran, kpix 5. on the subject of security, we are learning another tv crew has been robbed in san francisco. a photographer from our chicago affiliate wbbm had his camera,

laptop and other equipment taken by two men claiming to have a gun. it happened at polk and lombard at 9 p.m. last night. that photographer gave up his gear and was not injured. and equipment also stolen this week in san francisco from snoop dogg scheduled to perform around town all week long. but a rented suv with about 9,000 worth of electronics was taken on hayes street on monday night. a live look now at levi's stadium scene. super bowl. and super security. the faa issuing a reminder today that the airspace around the stadium is a "no drone" zone. no aircraft is allowed within a 32-mile radius of the site on sunday. and inside, the field is painted, primed and ready for the broncos and the panthers. painters have been touching up the painted logos on the field. the end zones and benches. the fields crew says the grass is in good shape thanks to the recent sunny warm days. >> and the super bowl coaches and some of the players back in

front of the cameras this morning. they say preparing for the super bowl is like no other. even the timing comes into play. the longer breaks and even a longer halftime. >> we have talked about those things and how we're going to try to adjust with our players to those particular situations. but i think the biggest thing is trying to keep an even keel. you still play 60 minutes. the game won't change. >> coach kubiak had little to say about sending a player home. ryan murphy was caught up in a bay area prostitution sting last night. san jose police have been cracking down on human trafficking with the influx of tourists for the super bowl. while questioning a suspected prostitute at a gas station last night, they found murphy and another man in a car. the man and a woman were cited. murphy was questioned and released. the rookie safety was assigned to the team's practice squad just a few months ago. the coach said this morning the matter has been dealt with and

his status has not changed. lots going on around super bowl city and the beyond so let's check in with roberta to see if the weather will cooperate. it doesn't feel bad now. >> not bad. you and i were walking in here and a couple of of the police officers asked us, hey, where's the rain! it one of those days walking around -- it's one of those days walking around with sunglasses. but we have rain in the forecast. right now let's look at our hi- def doppler radar. no rain locally, but look well to the north. we have the leading edge of a frontal boundary. it's now pressing up against the northwestern section of the state of california. raindrops in the eureka area. here's what you need to know. first off, this is a very weak frontal boundary. it's a system -- i don't want to call it a storm, it's brushing up against the bay area sliding to the south, end result we'll have some rain here locally and it has a lot of power associated with it so we have a high surf advisory going into place tonight through friday morning. now, tracking the rain and when we should all expect it, i have the details coming up in a matter of minutes. >> i know you wanted to sing the national anthem at the

join ken bastida, jennifer montana tonight at 7:00 for all things super bowl 50 right here on kpix 5. one other sports note. new details about the death of former oakland raider quarterback ken stabler. he died july 8 from colon cancer. now researchers say he also had a chronic brain disease linked to repeated concussion. concussion and head injuries are a big topic in the nfl. stabler is a finalist for the pro football hall of fame class of 2016. new at noon, real estate heir and accused murderer robert durst today pleaded guilty to a weapons charge. he will be spending the next 7 years in jail. but as kpix 5 reporter anne makovec explains, durst's troubles don't end there. >> reporter: this plea deal will eventually put him on trial for murder. durst is suspected of killing a woman here in california and is asking to be extradited so he can prove his innocence. that woman susan berman, a

former bay area journalist, with ties to kpix 5. [ pause ] [ no audio ] ing the stigation into his missing wife -- soon after -- a bullet in the >> all right, that was, um, a technical difficulty we're having with that report. but berman was a producer for a show here called "evening magazine" on kpix 5. she was good friends with durst and she may have known something about his wife's disappearance back in the '80s. and the allegation is that perhaps he might have killed her to keep the secret safe. so that's something that we are going to continue to follow as essex stra died the to california. he is expected to arrive back in our state in objection for his arraignment on those murder charges. again, he maintains that he is innocent. live in the newsroom, anne makevoc, kpix 5. some other bay area

headlines. tests confirm two santa clara university undergrads have meningitis. both students had been admitted to the hospital. health officials are working together to identify other students who made contact with those two sick students. if any are found, they will be given antibiotics to help them stave off the infection. and the city of san francisco will open a new homeless shelter tonight. it's inside a warehouse at pier 80. there have been a number of complaints about its remote location and a protest is planned for this afternoon. the mayor has been accused of trying to sweep the homeless from the streets away from super bowl 50 activities. and the homeless man suspected of slashing a chp officer with a knife could be in court as early as tomorrow. noel corpuz allegedly attacked the officer as he confronted him walking on the essex street entrance to the bay bridge in san francisco yesterday morning. the officer was stabbed in the neck and arm. he is in stable condition and is expected to recover. terrifying moments on a flight in as a matter of law

yeah. an explosion ripped -- in somalia. an explosion ripped a hole in the side of the plane and a passenger was sucked out. jonathan vigliotti reports. >> reporter: cell phone video captured the aftermath of tuesday's explosion as air poured through the hole in the plane. oh, general masks were -- oxygen masks were tossed around and a passenger was sucked out, his body found later. a diplomat on board who shot this video said everyone was afraid they were going to die. >> we saw a hole in the plane and the first thing you worry about is can we really make it? >> reporter: the plane was going to an east african country when the blast happened minutes after take-off. the plane was at a relatively low altitude and the aircraft held together until the pilot landed it. somali officials say they have found no evidence of criminal activity so far. but the plane's pilot and aviation experts say the hole showed all the signs of terrorism. >> there's a bomb. that hole is caused by a bomb. they will be able to tell that.
