live from our exclusive home in super bowl city, this is kpix 5 news. your realtime captioner is linda marie macdonald. welcome to board. it is super bowl eve in the bay area. right now, thousands upon thousands of fans are packed into super bowl city. so many people tonight that the gates are now closed. it's the nfl's night to shine. we are on the red carpet as the league honors its finest and we're just getting word of a 49er going into the hall of fame. >> we're coming to you live from our exclusive broadcast home inside city at sens restaurant. san francisco's one big party right now. >> and the energy has been building all week long. you can really feel the excitement right now. less than 24 hours away from

super bowl 50 right here on kpix 5. good evening, i'm elizabeth cook. >> i'm ken bastida. good to have you along. today was expected to be the busiest day out at super bowl city. >> yeah. it's a total scene out there right now! the crowd reached capacity about an hour ago. kpix 5 reporter emily turner is in the heart of it. emily. >> reporter: it is like two different worlds. it's a lot of fun, everything that's going on in here, the fans are pumped up. on the other side of the gate where people are stuck and can't get in, they are not very happy. it's a party in high demand. it's causing tension for those who don't get into super bowl city. the estimates were one million people. but there very well may be more today. at 2:00 it was at 90% capacity. the lines were still so long, they spilled into the streets forcing additional closures. thousands waited many for hours just to get in, and the concert

is still hours away. >> took me five hours to get here so i would be super disappointed. >> reporter: last night gates closed around 8:00. officers said that left 5,000 people in the streets many shouting angrily. they rushed one entrance and 100 broke through before police could bring in backup. >> the venue is now closed. >> reporter: tonight officers have been warned. it's a weekend and the venue is warning fans as well, start early so those who do get in can see what they came for. >> if you want to go to the alicia keys concert, line up now because it will get really packed. >> reporter: what did they say about last night? >> they said last night one direction was here and it was popping and they shut the area down. they didn't let no more people in so go right now. >> reporter: i hope that those ladies made it because i know they were really excited about the concert. in the meantime just before the show, we walked down to one of the gates, the one on market street. the lines are still there because they are not saying, hey, you can't get in, it's completely over. we are going to say we are

going to assess the situation, maybe we'll re-open it as people leave but people who are leaving they are saying your not allowed to come back in. so before you leave super bowl city, make sure they have done everything they need to do before they head out. live in super bowl city, emily turner, kpix 5. >> it's all about safety tonight, as well. we just heard from bart, trains are stopping at the embarcadero station because of the huge crowds. >> and some breaking news. reports coming in that the former 49ers owner danny debartolo has been named to the nfl hall of fame. as team owner debartolo led the 9ers to five super bowl championships. the word is coming from the nfl honors and awards ceremony under way right now. it is a huge honor for a man loved by players. much more on this coming up in sports. the official announcement will come tonight at the nfl honors show which will air right here on kpix 5. >> the show at the bill graham civic auditorium in san francisco draws a who's who of

football players and celebrities. kpix 5's juliette goodrich has been busy on the red carpet. she caught up with several familiar faces reporter: here we are on the red carpet and this event is about to begin so i'm watching my back to see how is here. we have a good spot because we're able to move around. so stick around and we'll see who we interview. how wonderful to have the people here in san francisco. how great is this? >> when we got the bid to host this thing a while back, you know, then all the meteorologists started saying oh, yeah, here comes el nino. i think the football gods beat them away. >> i grew up in pleasanton and went to high school with your son. [ laughter ] >> he is back in pleasanton now. >> he is. he was a good kid. you done good. >> thank you very much. [ overlapping speakers ] [ inaudible ] >> is it that necklace heavy? > no, it's not. it's -- i don't feel it at all. it feels like it's part of my -- >> reporter: is it solid gold?

the free concert series wraps up tonight. >> this is the climax of all of this. the best is for last. alicia keys. she needs no introductions. as a matter of fact, even though she doesn't take the stage for another two hours and 40 minutes, look at what's going on behind me. tens of thousands of folks began arriving at 8:00 this morning. they will have waited more than 12 hours before alicia keys takes the stage. her first number one song was 15 years ago, fallen back in the year 2001 but she has been rocking it ever since. 15 years of number one songs of number one albums and certainly she has a following all around the country including here in the bay area. this is a last of the city stage concerts presented by levi's. each one brought a huge crowd but none bigger than this where we have "goapele" an oakland act. he is an oakland performer right here from the bay area. but all the focus is on alicia keys tonight. 8:15. she takes the stage. we are already at capacity.

word came out that we're at capacity for the city stage. that happened at 4:30. think about that. everybody was already in and will have waited for nearly four hours before alicia takes the stage. but everybody here i talked to said it is worth it. she is that good and they get to see her for free live in downtown san francisco tonight. i'll have your forecast and talk more about this beautiful weather coming up in a few minutes. back to you. >> she is an incredible performer. it's going to be an awesome concert. >> the folks are ready to go, too. >> absolutely. >> thank you. the bay area's hopping tonight! in addition to the alicia keys concert there's the nfl experience at the moscone center. the red-hot chilly peps at pier 70 and the taste of the nfl at the cow palace. metallica at at&t park and the warriors are playing tonight at oracle arena. >> well, the final touches being put on levi's stadium as we speak. chopper 5 was overhead this afternoon. crews were painting the nfl logo on the field.

you know they're close there. kpix 5's maria medina is outside levi's stadium. maria, the teams are getting ready for what some are predicting will be the biggest super bowl ever. >> reporter: yeah. it feels like that. all the excitement in the air right now. the teams did their final walk- through this morning and while no one was allowed inside the stadium, we still got you a sneak peek. [ chanting ] >> reporter: less than 24 hours before the big game -- >> let's go, broncos! >> reporter: -- the denver broncos most die-hard fans are showing in the bay area. this man traveled more than 900 miles to get to santa clara. >> we get together every weekend rain, snow or shine on game day. we are the first ones in the lot. the last ones to leave. >> reporter: as fans gear up for the 50th super bowl, chopper 5 captured the broncos gearing up, as well. this morning, the broncos did their final walk-through at levi's stadium going over scripted scenarios on offense and defense and special teams.

and if you look closely, you will see peyton manning throw the ball. it's also family day for the broncos. we spotted their relatives boarding buses at the marriott then arriving at the stadium where they took pictures with the players. a proud day for the team, their relatives and the fans who will fill up the stadium tomorrow. >> we're coming off, you cam newton! we're coming after you, boy! >> reporter: all right. i don't want you guys to think that we forgot about the panthers. this picture tweeted out by the coach's daughter courtney rivera of the entire team. this is proof there's excitement in the air here. i know this isn't super bowl city but a lot of fans already walking through here arriving here at levi's stadium one day before the super bowl. just a preview of what's to come.maria medina, kpix 5.

bowl 50. chopper 5 spotted this military helicopter on golf course right next no shortage of security for super bowl 50. chopper 5 spotted this military helicopter on the golf course right next to levi's stadium this afternoon. and that's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to keeping everyone safe tomorrow. >> you bet. kpix 5 reporter len ramirez is outside levi's stadium. lenny, you got an exclusive look inside the security operations. tell us about it. >> reporter: yeah. one of the big things about security at this super bowl is monitoring social media because of what happened in paris and san bernardino and some of the clues that were missed there. officials here don't want to miss anything. it's an impressive show of strength on the streets of santa clara.

heavily armed military personnel, officers with assault rifles, bomb-sniffing dogs and combat helicopters overseeing it all. >> there will be folks in plainclothes out there that you probably won't see. >> reporter: santa clara police won't give details on their security plan for game day tomorrow. only that law enforcement will be ready for just about anything. >> tomorrow is going to be very important for us. it gives us a chance to see what we have been planning for the last two years if it really works. we have an accident plan and just want to see it unfold. >> reporter: in today's world, much of the plan has to do with the internet and social media. >> social media has changed the game completely. >> reporter: kpix 5 was given access to the super bowl 50 joint information center at a secret location in sunnyvale. it's where homeland security, law enforcement and cyber security experts are monitoring internet chatter and social media messages that could flag anything from a traffic accident to a terrorist threat. >> it has really become something that the public and law enforcement have to follow and step into to understand

kpix 5's betty yu is on the red carpet at the taste of the nfl. betty. >> reporter: hey, liz. the vip experience just opened. we are right here on the red carpet where a lot of stars have been coming this way. right now, take a look down there, that's larry the cable guy. he is a comedian and i just spoke with alyssa milano. she is in town for this event. she says she cares very much about this event because it's not just a party. this event is dedicated to raise money and raise awareness about hunger in all these nfl cities across the country. we are going to walk into the foyer here. we are at the cow palace and they have completely redone this event. basically, all the guests tonight will be sampling fantastic food from chefs across the country. they will get to meet nfl greats and perhaps even see a few actors in this place. we're told vince vaughn will be here shortly, as well. we'll continue to bring you more action throughout the

terrell owens announced on his own twitter page that he is out. and eddie debartolo reportedly at long last is in. the man they call eddie d owned the 49ers for all five super bowl titles but enshrinement has been tough for him to make it. the committee spent 50 minutes discussing his candidacy today which many felt should have been a slam-dunk. >> his contributions to the game is fantastic. you guys coming from young towns, ohio, give him a break. >> it's embarrassing that eddie hasn't been in already and i'm going to go on a rampage if along with several other 49ers and people i know if eddie doesn't get in. it shouldn't be close. it's a no-brainer. greatest owner ever. five super bowls. other teams built their organizations on the san francisco 49ers of the '80s and '90s and that was all eddie
