county courthouse next to the law office of the mayor. [ pause ] >> apparently crews were able to safely detonate the bomb after securing the area. before the bomb squad got close to the explosive, a robot checked out the bomb first. >> from all accounts, it appears to be a real pipe bomb and it was a barrel fuse type. it's under investigation. >> the vallejo fire department cleared the scene but will stay to collect evidence and check neighboring surveillance cameras. all right. on to campaign 2016. hillary clinton has won the nevada caucuses and today's win puts two states in the win column for clinton. sanders has one. now, we are going to go live to danielle nottingham in las vegas for the latest. >> reporter: hillary clinton avoided an upset in nevada much to the relief of her supporters, who were concerned

about a late push from bernie sanders. [ applause and cheers ] >> reporter: hillary clinton savored her victory over bernie sanders in the nevada democratic caucuses. >> i am so, so thrilled and so grateful to all of my supporters out there. >> reporter: but entrance polls exposed weaknesses. she lost among voters who value honesty. sanders was favored among younger women. >> i believe that on super tuesday, we have got an excellent chance to win manies of those states. >> reporter: -- many of those states. >> reporter: this was the first step for the democratic presidential candidates at courting minority voters. democrats gathered at hundreds of caucus sites including a handful on the las vegas strip so casino workers could attend. >> i kind of want to put my stamp on bernie getting that close finish maybe. >> reporter: for some voters it comes down to electability in

november. >> she has been about children and families her whole life. and i connect to that and i believe in her. >> thank you, all, god bless you! >> reporter: clinton has momentum heading into the south carolina primary next week. and a close loss by bernie sanders may still give him a boost as the candidates move into south carolina and, of course, the primaries on super tuesday. live in las vegas, danielle nottingham. juliette, back to you. >> thank you. an hour ago jeb bush called it quits suspending his campaign for the presidency. bush tied for fourth place in the south carolina republican primary. donald trump came in first. and that puts two states in the win column for trump. ted cruz won the iowa caucuses a couple of weeks ago. trump's victory today puts him in a strong position for the march 1 super tuesday contest. and about 30 minutes ago, trump

addressed his supporters in south carolina. he says he will never forget the state or all of the volunteers there. 91% of the vote in tonight trump leads with 33% in south carolina. it's a battle now for who comes in second. florida senator marco rubio is a few thousand votes ahead of texas senator ted cruz. both around 22%. ohio governor john kasich has an 8% portion of the vote. trump says, quote, when you win, it's beautiful. >> south carolina, we will never forg you! let's go. let's have a big win in nevada. let's have a big win at the sec. let's put this thing away and let's make america great again! thank you very much. [ applause and cheers ] >> at this point trump also leads the delegate count. cbs news projects that he has 61 delegates. ted cruz is in second place with 11. tonight, thousands of people are celebrating the year of the monkey in san francisco.

floats, firecrackers and costumes have filled the streets for the chinese new year parade. kpix 5's emily turner is live in the heart of the celebration. hi, emily. >> we are in the heart of it right in the middle of. it just check out all of these floats. you have the boy scouts over here. and there are plenty of people who are really excited about coming out. they came out about 4 hours early to get those seats they are looking at right there. we're talking about a crowd of about a million people here for this parade. they waited a long time for the parade. it's one of the world's top ten parades according to the international festival association. [ loud noise in the background ] >> there are going to be about 20 floats, 1,000 marching units and 60,000 different firecrackers. in fact, one of those big firecrackers kicked off this whole thing and it smelled like roses. they got it all the way in from china. the main event is a 270-foot-

long golden dragon that is carried by 100 people. with the year of the monkey, we have seen a lot more monkeys than dragons. >> this is the year of the monkey. so a lot of the floats are designed based on a monkey theme. the monkey is a clever, um, smart, um, very agile and so the people that are born in the year of the monkey are supposed to be that. >> reporter: takes a man like that to run a parade like this? >> i am a monkey, yes. [ laughter ] >> reporter: he is a clever guy because let me tell you it's running smoothly and according to plan and everybody seems to be having a great time. it's bright, colorful, loud. there's lots of lights. and everybody seems to be having a really, really good time. and ends around 8:00 but please plenty left to be seen. emily turner, kpix 5. immigration and customs enforcement agent is in hot water tonight after leaving his weapon on the roof of his car and driving off. it happened in the ingleside neighborhood of san francisco.

it was a gun like this. the manufacturer's website. kpix 5's legal analyst jeff harp spoke with us about weapon safety and the officer's actions. >> whether it's in the holster or in your hand you never set it down because you never want to lose control of it. >> this isn't the first time an officer has lost a gun. back in july, a gun stolen from an agent's car was used in the fatal shooting of kate steinle on pier 14. and in september, a muralist in oakland was killed when an immigration officer's firearm wound up a murder weapon. today demonstrations were held in san francisco to support a former new york police officer. 28-year-old rookie peter liang was convicted earlier this month of manslaughter for a deadly shooting in 2014. he is asian and says he accidentally fired his weapon during a patrol in a dark stairwell inside a public housing project. the bull ricocheted and killed

a bystander. supporters in the asian community says he has become a scapegoat in the backlash against police brutality. rallies were held in more than 40 cities today including in san francisco. he will be sentenced in april. one person is dead another in the hospital tonight after a stabbing outside a bar in san jose. it happened just after midnight. police found the injured men in the parking lot of the elegant pub on south white road. one died at the hospital. the other man's injuries are not life-threatening. and no suspects have been identified. chp is asking for help in identifying suspects wanted for a hit-and-run in petaluma. a witness snapped photos of them leaving the scene about noon yesterday. this woman has several distinctive tatoos including two lipstick marks inked on her chest. two men were also photographed running away. officers say they were driving a black 1995 ford explorer on southbound 101 at petaluma boulevard when they caused a

unlocking an encrypted phon apple supporters are p the backlash is growing over apple's battle with the fbi over unlocking a phone. supporters plan to protest in more than 30 cities on tuesday. the protests are organized by the internet rights group fight for the few. the gatherings will come a week after the fbi went to court to force apple to weaken the security built into most iphones. the fbi says it will help their terrorism investigation in san bernardino. northern california father is demanding an exemption from nevada county's marijuana ordinance to treat his son's severe epilepsy. the county recently put in place a temporary ban prohibiting outdoor marijuana. it also limits indoor grows to 12 plants. in an effort to crack down on growers. now, forest hurd's son has a rare type epilepsy and uses cannabis oil for his seizures. >> for convenience, we have now

today politicians from welcome back. a live picture now at the bay bridge lights. or what is of them. you can see the bay bridge light display is not on currently. they are supposed to be on during the evening. a beautiful display. so we're checking into why they're off and hopefully, they will come back on very soon. so we'll get back to you on that. in the meantime today politicians from both sides of the aisle came out to pay their final respects to supreme court justice antonin scalia. he was laid to rest in washington. cbs news' weijia jang spoke to those who knew him best. ♪[ music ] >> reporter: church bells tolled for justice antonin scalia as pallbearers carried his casket into the basilica of the national shrine of the immaculate conception. father paul scalia the justice's son presided over the mass and delivered the sermon. >> god blessed dad with a love for his family. >> reporter: father scalia was on the verge of tears as he talked about his father's love

for his wife of 56 years and the couple's nine children. >> to have each other for support, that's the greatest wealth parents can bestow and right now we are particularly grateful for it. >> reporter: scalia's funeral mass was of the first for a supreme court justice held here at the nation's largest roman catholic church, religion was an important part of his life. >> it was a reminder that there are more important things in his life than the job that he did every day. he was somebody who loved the catholic church and his country. >> reporter: and he loved his friends, says dick coleman who went to college and law school with scalia. >> always gets me when i read something in the media about him being a curmudgeon. he was the warmest funniest guy i know. >> reporter: mourners from both sides of the aisle including vice president joe biden and jill biden and senator ted cruz came together to say good-bye. weijia jang, cbs news,

washington. back in the bay area, the celebration continues tonight. in san francisco's chinatown, chinese new year parade is under way with all of the festivities. it will be going on through the next few hours. the year of the monkey and yet the dragons are in evidence as we look live down there in san francisco. here's another view. nice night out there. temperatures chilly tonight. but in san francisco right now, 55 degrees. san jose 56. same for santa rosa and in concord 59 degrees. and new are heading out to the parade the temperatures will be in the mid-50s under mostly clear skies. the monster jam tonight at 7:00 at o.co clear skies and 50s. tomorrow the numbers nice. plenty of sunshine around the bay area. no rain. 60s in the warmer locations as high pressure builds over the west coast and that's taking all of the moisture out in the pacific and there is some.

but it's heading it up into the pacific northwest. storm track now over seattle and parts of oregon but mostly the west coast of canada. the next three days seattle has rain, we have sun. and warm temperatures right into next week. warming up as a matter of fact on tuesday and wednesday with no rain in sight. and that's sobering because february is one of the rainier months of the year and especially combined with an el nino year. but every el nino has its own distinct signature this one at this point is dry. travel weather forecast out of the bay area the numbers in the upper 60s in fresno and sacramento. numbers here in the low to mid- 40s tonight. sunrise tomorrow morning at 7 minutes before 7:00. for tomorrow we're well above average for much of the bay area mid- to upper 60s in most of the south bay tomorrow. over in the east bay same story. sunshine and readings in the 60s. we'll nudge 70 in pittsburg. up in the north bay tomorrow we'll have clear skies and temperatures in the mid- to

upper 60s. it will be beautiful as well in ukiah. clearlake tomorrow at 70. saint helena 68. if you are heading for the northern end of the napa valley and 66 degrees at rohnert park. extended forecast dry and warmer weather ahead with temperatures in the low 70s by monday, tuesday, wednesday and thursday. right around the bay the numbers will be in the low to mid-70s. at the shoreline, clear skies, as well. not bad. warmer than we see it usually in june and july at least in the city and not much in the way of low cloudiness and that dry spell holds all the way through next weekend. so no rain in sight. there's one thing that i can see quite clearly and he is sitting to juliette's right and he is vern glenn. >> thank you very much. hey, nothing have vanilla over here not your garden varieties sportscast. uh-uh. ahead we have "beast mode," marshawn lynch and hugh jackman on the same football field! why's that? i got the answer. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
