city is expanding this week south of market that originally began on division street now encompasses four blocks including showplace square. kpix 5's jackie ward is at that homeless encampment where some people are still refusing to leave. >> reporter: while that may be the case for some, others just don't know where to go. so the people we spoke to this morning were gathering their things and just starting to find a new home. packing their things and sweeping the part of the sidewalk they made their homes. these homeless people in soma were moving out not knowing where they will sleep tonight. they do know they have to be out by 5 p.m. >> i understand his position. and i understand that, yeah, we make a mess and we make trash. but it's not illegal to be homeless. >> reporter: along harrison and 13th city outreach employees were offering help with alternatives. the department of public works said it wasn't related to mayor lee's deadline. this particular clean-up effort happens every day.

>> people are going to migrate. they're going to rebuild. that's the human ingenuity. they are he not going to just sit here and be like a some monkeys on a tree and do nothing. >> reporter: starr roberts has been homeless for 11 years. he wants to act as a bridge between the homeless population and city officials. >> if the homeless people came together and marched, if we sat down at city hall and put our attention at city hall and addressed it with ourselves as a voice, i think we would get a lot of things more done for us. >> reporter: he says what the homeless advocates are doing is all well and good but it's not enough. >> it's alienating th homeless. they say they are going to march for the homeless people but do they know the guy behind me what's going on with him? >> reporter: the department of public health put up the notices to tell them about the 5 p.m. deadline but the department of public works and police department will enforce it at 5

p.m. tonight. in san francisco, jackie ward, kpix 5. apple shareholders are meeting today at the company's cupertino headquarters. kpix 5's kiet do tells us one obviously big topic of conversation is the company's legal fight with the federal government. >> reporter: cameras were not allowed inside the 2016 shareholders meeting but judging from fay's reaction to tim cook it went well. >> i was very impressed, a delightful personality but intelligent, knows his stuff, so i came away feeling really good. >> reporter: tim cook talked about numbers other companies only dream of. $54billion in profit last year. all u.s. operations running on renewable energy. and female employees salaries are 99.6% of that of male counterparts. apple's board of supervisors is as diverse as it's ever been. good news to jesse jackson who has been pressuring the company to do better. but the last thought cook brought up was the company's battle over the iphone back door. jackson said from tapping dr. martin luther king's phone to tapping his own phone, the

convention starts. they are going to be making endorsements. key notebook speaker includes barbara boxer and joe biden. the vice president is set to speak tomorrow afternoon. before that he will be at the uc-san francisco for a roundtable discussion on cancer research. a man suspected of killing a san jose woman set to be arraigned this afternoon in a hayward courtroom. esmid pedraza is in custody in connection with the shooting death of stacey aguilar. aguilar was last seen the night of february 13 at a party in hayward. her body was found saturday near morrison canyon in fremont. u.s. immigration officials confirm pedraza is an undocumented immigrant. a statement says i.c.e. has lodged a formal request to notify ice prior to his release so the agency can take him into custody. san francisco police are trying to find a dog that attacked a man at golden gate park. the man says he was playing with his dog when another dog

bit him on the leg and harm. the dog's owner ended the attack but then she took off the without providing contact or rabies information. the dog is an 80-pound gray pit bull with a white patch on his chest. eight people were hurt after a suspected drunk driver rear-ended a muni bus in san francisco this morning in the bayview district on bayshore boulevard near industrial street. several people were taken on stretchers and the driver of that suv hauled away in handcuffs. >> our officers are currently conducting a dui investigation on the driver of that ford. and there were eight people on this muni bus that are injured that have been transported to san francisco general hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries. >> and the firefighters say the injured passengers had moderate to minor injuries. we are learning about the man who opened fire at a factory in kansas killing three people and injuring more than a

dozen others. >> reporter: police in kansas say shooting suspect cedric ford was served with a protection from abuse order in the factory where he worked 90 minutes before he opened fire. he just displayed -- he was upset getting this letter. >> reporter: he had a criminal record and left work after getting an order and first opened fire in a car hitting a vehicle and then shot another driver and stole that car before heading back to the excel plant. >> shooter excel industries in hesston. >> reporter: ford shot one person in the parking lot and another 14 inside the building before an officer gunned him down. the unidentified officer is being called a hero. >> he had to stop that threat! you've got 200 or 300 people in there. they came out. >> reporter: relatives rushed
