there's nobody more qualified. >> reporter: but sanders did well with the young. >> whenever he's on tv i see through the screen. he seems so nice. >> reporter: clinton crisscrossed the state all week trying to protect her lead. she, her husband and daughter did a combined nine campaign events just yesterday. both candidates are now looking ahead to super tuesday when more than 800 delegates are up for grabs. today, clinton courted voters in alabama. >> i know there are a lot of people in this state who want to continue the progress we've made. >> reporter: while bernie sanders struggled to gain traction in the palmetto state, he shifted his focus to texas. he spent the day campaigning in austin. >> if all of you come out to vote and you bring your friends and your neighbors and your coworkers, we are going to win here in texas. >> reporter: 222 delegates are at stake in the lone star stake, the largest prize for democrats next week.

bernie sanders was in the air on the way to minnesota for a rally this evening when the polls closed in south carolina. he released a paper statement congratulating hillary clinton on her win. we're expecting to hear from bernie sanders in about 30 to 40 minutes. brian, back to you. >> craig, you know, up to this point, we've been able to focus on one state at a time. i mean, we've had new hampshire, iowa, we've been able to focus on south carolina. now we've got super tuesday coming up. is there anything in the polls to suggest, boy, it really looks like clinton is going to be way ahead once super tuesday is over with or do we really not know? >> well, there are lots of polling. there's polling information on that. clinton is expected to roll through the southern states. bernie sanders i can tell you specifically is focusing on five states, vermont, minnesota, massachusetts, oklahoma, and colorado. these are the states where he believes he can do well or at

least probably win, he's thinking. but a lot of these delegates in the south are going to go into hillary clinton's camp, particularly texas. a lot of delegates up for grabs there. 56% of all the delegates available are going to be won through the month of march. so march itself is very big. you have super tuesday with 11 states. you also have another really big tuesday two weeks later on the 15th. for bernie sanders on march 16th, he really wants to be still within striking distance of hillary clinton when this campaign moves west, where he believes he can do well. >> all right, craig boswell in washington, d.c. thank you, craig. speaking of the statement craig just alluded to, bernie sanders said i congratulate hillary clinton on her victory in south carolina. i'm proud of the campaign we ran. let me be clear on one thing. the campaign is just beginning. on the republican side, the slugfest between donald trump and marco rubio is reaching new

billion dollar initiative to eradicate cancer. one man is dead after another freeway shooting in the east bay. it happened just after 1:00 this morning on i-80 in richmond near hilltop drive. investigators say several shots were fired. kpix 5's mark kelly shows us the shooting created a massive traffic tie-up for morning drivers. >> reporter: traffic near hilltop drive came to a crawl this morning while chp looked into how this jeep suv rolled down this grassy embankment, ejecting a driver from the vehicle and killing him. the preliminary investigation shows that shortly after 1:00 this morning, a second vehicle fired several shots into the jeep, sending the driver swerving over the hillside. this morning shooting along this stretch of the freeway isn't the first. in the past few months, we have seen multiple shootings along

this stretch of 80. one of the first was early november during the busy evening commute. gunfire hospitalized a man driving this far. by december, there were four separate shootings on i-80. chp believes many of the shootings including today's are not random, and that the shooter is targeting a specific victim, and the general public should not be afraid of getting shot driving this stretch of i- 80. mark kelly, kpix 5. >> we have reached out to chp for comments on the shooting and they have yet to return our phone call. three people are dead after a fiery crash involving several vehicles in southern california that happened overnight on i-5 east of downtown los angeles. billowing smoke filled the air after the crash. many of the 8 cars involved completelymangled. the busy freeway shut down in both directions for hours. investigators say two cars were racing when one of them slammed

canoer in donner lake. the of one canoer was fo police resume their search for a second missing canoer in the lake. the body of one man was found today. the several was called off last night because of dangerous weather conditions. this morning, police found one of the men not far from where their canoe toppled over. investigators say the men were in their 30s and were visitors to the truckie area. yoko ono is out of the hospital after spending the night overnight. she was rushed to a new york city hospital yesterday afternoon for flu like symptoms. the 83-year-old spent the night on the advice of her doctor. her son, shawn, sent out a tweet saying she's home and running around as usual. yoko ono, of course, the widow of john lennon. the blue and gold sweet suspended ferry service for a week. it needs to do major work and maintenance on its floating

dock in tibber ron. for those who rely on the ferry for the commute there will be a bus bridge set up that will take people to the ferry building in san francisco during commute hours. ferry service should resume next saturday. 99 bucks. that's how much it costs for one ticket to get into disneyland. now, disney is rolling out seasonal prices for one day passes and it starts tomorrow. tickets will be offered at three different rates. value, regular, and peak days. on the website, guests will be able to see which days are the least or the most expensive. during peak days, guests will pay more. prices for annual passes though will not change. coming up, there is good news and not so good news about the sierra snow pack. what the experts are saying about it now despite our warm february. >> warm for now, but finally there are changes coming. we'll document them when we cover the forecast as we look live from the transamerica pyramid coming up after the break. hollywood are

finishing touches on the doy theater for tomorrow's academy aw dianne gallagher in hollywood crews are putting the finishing touches on the adobe theater for tomorrow's academy awards. diane gallagher with a behind- the-scenes look with what's going on happen on the red carpet. >> we're out here on the red carpet. we don't have any celebrities for you right now, but it is a couple of hundred of my closest media friends getting ready for the main event here. it all starts back there behind the silver car. the celebrities go through security before they come on to the red carpet to smile for the cameras. there's plenty of people

setting up their shots, getting a look where they want to be when the big stars come up. they're actually not going to be on the carpet though. the media will be right over this way. that's where each individual camera gets to be. it is tight quarters over here, shoulder to shoulder. nothing glamorous about the press area during the academy awards. all that glamour is here on the red carpet. all the fun happening over to my right in those empty risers come red carpet time, it will be filled with all sorts of adoring fans who have been waiting to get their carpet side seat, maybe get a selfie with leo comeshow time. they're still working on the red carpet itself. they are cutting it up, making sure nobody trips, has an embarrassing moment on their way to make that grand entrance into the adobe theater for the 88th annual academy awards. >> comedian chris rock will be hosting and singers lady gaga and sam smith are slated to perform their oscar nominated songs. the snow pack is still

going strong in the sierra despite what's been a relatively dry february. it remains close to average for this time of the year. lake tahoe is also benefiting from el nino, the lake level is now with within nine inches of its natural rim. it is well short of average for this time of the year. the national weather service says the lake is supposed to be at least two feet above the rim. we're all looking for kind after miracle march coming in, maybe picking up some rain. there are indications actually that it might finally turn a little bit wet through the upcoming week. in the meantime between now and wednesday night and thursday, it's going to be sunny and mild except for a tiny little chance of a few sprinkles up to the north which we will cover like an old blanket. in the meantime, we look out to the golden gate bridge, 68 at concord. oakland 65. 62 degrees right now in san francisco. 65 for santa rosa. out the door tomorrow morning, a little chilly start but plenty of sun around the bay and inlands.

the numbers will be from the upper 40s. again this is in the morning. by the afternoon we'll be skyrocketing into the low 70s inland. upper 60s around the bay and mid-60s along the shoreline. here's how it looks. we've got low pressure that's up around the pacific northwest. good for them. they've got thunderstorms on the way for seattle tomorrow. plus we're going to get a few high clouds. the clouds coming in over the northern half of the state. here's what's going to be happening by thursday evening. low pressure is going to open the storm door a bit as the high pressure finally gets shoved to the east. that opens things up to at least the possibility of rain. if it comes, it will come around thursday so we shall see. in fact, the outlook from the cdc -- the outlook from the centers for disease control, they're getting into the weather business, shows wetter than average conditions march 4th to 8th. we'll see if that bears out. anything will be better than nothing, which is what we've got lately. futurecast to show high clouds

spreading over northern california tomorrow. more clouds tomorrow than today. temperatures moderate a little bit. monday, high pressure builds back. we look for things to warm then. tomorrow partly cloudy after a clear and chilly saturday night, it will be mostly mild and warm through mid-week. finally a chance of rain. heading out of the bay area, a few showers. overnight lows tonight, we'll see them in the 40s. for the most part sunup a quarter to 7. forecast highs well above average for concord, 7 degrees above average there. 70 at san jose. east bay tomorrow will be near 70 degrees. up in the north bay nice. plenty of sunshine, upper 60s will do it. the southern edge of a few white sprinkles, went be surprised if we got a few tomorrow morning. monday through wednesday, plenty of sun. thursday, the clouds increase. so does the plot leading to a chance ever showers. friday, partly cloudy skies. may be more coming in for saturday. finally that unfamiliar looking

now, after only playing in 52 games last season, fans are excited to see hunter pence back in right field but will have to wait a little longer. new giants outfielder celebrated his 32nd bert day today in scottsdale. he is expected to take over center field for angel who moves over to left. earlier this week he chatted with the ultimate giants center fielder willie mays. >> my third or fourth encounter with him. each one gets better and better. first encounter he busted my chops. second one he called me bernard. but today, i think he's just feeling me out and feeling each other out. and but yeah, this is surreal just to be able to sit down with a legend and just pick his brain and shoot the breeze. >> over today athletic, the a's took batting practice for the first time today this spring. it will be a tough spring for
