lady nancy reagan. >> i thought she brought a lot of classiness to the position of first lady. >> reporter: nancy reagan died of congestive heart failure at her home on sunday. she was an advocate for stem cell research following former president reagan's diagnosis of alzheimer's disease in 1994. where the two worshipped at the bellaire church, talked about the former first lady after the services. >> she was considerate of people around her and greeted everybody with a smile, as did her husband. >> reporter: nancy reagan's best-known project as first lady was the just say no campaign, aimed at keeping kids and teenagers away from drugs. though, she had her critics, her admirers will remember her for restoring grace and elegance to the white house. president obama and first lady michelle obama said in a statement nancy reagan redefined the role of first lady. she will be buried alongside her

husband at the ronald reagan presidential library. in fact, many say there would have been no president reagan without her. funeral arrangements are still being made, but the public will be able to pay their last respects before she is laid to rest. meg? >> teri okita in simi valley for, us thank you. nancy reagan was accused of holding unchecked power during her years in the white house and maintain her only mission was to protect and strengthen her husband's presidency. five years after he left office, the former president announced he had alzheimer's disease. she spoke about it in a "60 minutes" in 2002. >> that is the worst part about this disease, there is nobody to exchange memories with. >> reporter: >> right. and we had a lot of memories. >> reporter: after his death, she championed alzheimer's research and broke with fellow republicans advocating for stem cell studies.

coming up on "cbs this morning," we will talk with cbs news contributor and "wall street journal" columnist peggy noonan, a speech writer for ronald reagan, about nancy reagan's legacy. to presidential plxs. we begin with the democrats. bernie sanders eighth win out of 19 contests, he also won on saturday in kansas and nebraska but hillary clinton maintains a seemingly overwhelming lead in delegates. tomorrow, delegate-rich michigan holds its primary. last night, the democrats debated in flint. weijia jiang has our report. >> reporter: vermont senator bernie sanders and hillary clinton debated in flint, michigan, to debate the plintfl water crisis. investigators revealed state leaders knew about the problem but failed to do anything about it. both candidates called for

michigan's governor to resign. >> people should be held accountable, wherever that leads. >> reporter: the debate came just two days before voters head to the polls for michigan's democratic primary. the candidates sparred over an issue important to the people here, the 2009 bailout of the auto industry. >> i voted to save the auto industry. he voted against the money that ended up saving the auto industry. >> if you are talking about the wall street bailout, where some of your friends destroyed this economy! >> you know. >> excuse me. i'm talking. >> reporter: clinton is leading in the michigan polls, but sanders hopes his weekend caucus wins in maine, kansas, and nebraska will change voters' minds. weijia jiang, cbs news, flint, michigan. on the republican side, ted cruz says there is a shift in momentum. over the weekend, cruz won contests in kansas and maine while donald trump won in louisiana and kentucky. marco rubio picked up his second win of the primary season in

puerto rico. trump still has the most delegates but cruz is getting closer. marco rubio is lagging behind in the delegate count with time running out. he is fighting the notion that anti-trump voters should back ted cruz and vows to win his home state of florida and its 99-winner take all delegates. yesterday at a rally in idaho, rubio talked about the conservative movement. >> at its best, the conservative moment is will the fundamentals of free enterprise and a strong national defense and traditional values. >> tomorrow, cruz and the other gop candidates will battle for 150 delegates in four states. this morning, police in idaho are searching for a gunman who shot a pastor in the a church parking lotting lot in he was shot in the back four times on sunday and is sinspected to

survive. police are searching for kyle odom. no one else was injured. the latest storm system pounding the west coast is moving inland today. drenching rain and two deaths are blamed on the weather. on saturday, it was the wettest day in the san francisco area since 1914. yesterday, southern california bore the brunt of another system and wind gusts reached more than 50 miles per hour. the search for a man who fell from a cruise ship off the florida coast has been called off. the coast guard received a report late friday night from the crew of the navigator of the seas that a passenger had fallen overboard. he fell from the tenth deck about 100 feet from the water. search and rescue crews searched through the weekend but were unable to locate him. former president jimmy carter says he doesn't need any more treatment for cancer. mr. carter broke the news to a sunday school class he teaches. the former president is 91 years old. less than seven months ago, he revealed he had been diagnosed with melanoma that had spread to

burned a homeless man and tossed acoustic liquid at officers yesterday. the 23-year-old suspect was cornered in his backyard. buzzfeed reports that rape and sexual assaults were mentioned thousands of times in uber's customer records. but the ride sharing service says it received five claims of rape and fewer than 170 sexual assault complaints in the period buzzfeed studied. the website searched two and a half years of data ending last august. the associated press reports the rising death toll in iraq's suicide bombing. at least 47 people were killed and 65 were hurt yesterday south of baghdad. officials say a man drove a truck into a checkpoint and triggered the blast. isis is claiming responsibility. "the boston globe" reports a college won't allow filming for a movie about the marathon bombings. the university of massachusetts dartmouth officials say the filming would be disruptive. dzhokhar tsarnaev was a student there.

"the new york times" report a suspected copycat case in the crossword puzzle business. a computer engineered discovered that clues and themes from "the times" crossword appeared later in "usa today" and syndicated puzzles. here's a look at today's forecast in some cities around the country. on the cbs "moneywatch," a chicken nuggets recall and gas prices jump. jill wagner is at the new york stock exchange with that and more. good morning, jill. >> good morning. stocks in asia mostly higher following upbeat u.s. jobs report. the shanghai composite gained nearly 1%. japan's nikkei shed 1%, snapping a four-day winning streak. friday's jobs reported showed stronger than expected hirings and pushed stocks higher than expected on friday. the dow gained 365 points for the week and s&p finished 52 points higher and nasdaq closed the week 125 points higher than it started. applegate farms is recalling
