nine people were injured, four seriously. kpix 5's keit do is in livermore as service is back on track. >> reporter: the first train to go through niles canyon since the big derailment came true livermore at 5:26 a.m. the crews were working nonstop since monday night. it is truly a testament to modern engineering. ace train arrived in livermore with no fanfare. there were plenty of commuters. ace handles up to 6,000 passengers a day coming to and from the central valley to the bay area. daniel was on the train that derailed monday night. but he was in the fourth car and was not hurt. >> i'm not worried about this train. if it crashes and i can survive two train crashes. >> reporter: out of sunol the challenge was the railcar hoisting it out of the creek. it was on the side and the front end buried in a food of mud. they removed it to a flatbed.

crews will inspect it and if possible repair it and put it back in service. representative swalwell is concerned about more upcoming rain. >> i'm just concerned. we have intense weather headed our way. it's a break in the storm right now but i want to make sure that passengers on tomorrow's trains are safe. >> reporter: at diridon station in san jose, ace trains continue to arrive all morning long with passengers saying there was no sense in worrying about mother nature. >> i figure if it's my time, it's my time. i'm going to enjoy myself. >> reporter: the signs at the platform tell passengers that they are under a slowdown order through niles. kiet do, kpix 5. new video shows the moment when a google self-driving vehicle hit a bus in mountain view. the surveillance video white lexus glances off the right side of the public transit bus. the bus driver stops and checks the damage. at the time of the accident, both vehicles were going low speeds. the incident on valentine's

day was the first time one of google's cars was responsible for a collision on a public road. today closing arguments begin in a civil rights case against a san francisco police department. it centers around the fatal shooting of alex nieto in 2014. kpix 5's anne makovec is live outside the court with the very latest. anne. >> reporter: during the closing arguments, the lawyer for nieto's family showed graphic autopsy pictures of nieto's body after he had been shot at least four dozen times by the sfpd. the lawsuit alleges is excessive force by four san francisco police officers who confronted 28-year-old alex nieto at a park in bernal heights. it's been the scene of several vigils since that day in march 2014, when nieto was killed by police bullets. his middle school teach has attended them. >> very moved and motivated to follow his case and i'm so pleased that they actually are

getting a hearing in federal court. >> reporter: nieto was armed with a taser gun that evening and at least two people called 911 to report him pacing in the park. at today's hearing, no cameras allowed, the city's attorney said he pointed the taser at officers and they had no choice but to shoot. the d.a.'s office never criminally charged the officers in the case saying their use of force was justified. the family is speaking monetary damages. the case is now in the hands of an eight person jury, six women, two men. live in san francisco, anne makovec, kpix 5. we are going to take you down to san jose. a live look outside cloudy around parts of the bay area today and a lot more rain coming our way. let's check in with roberta for the forecast. >> today's weak system had an important job to carve a path for another area of low pressure that's going to dump on the bay area as early as tomorrow morning's commute. this is our live hi-def doppler radar in search of any kind of rain.

not seeing too much as of yet. just across suisun bay that's about it but it skirted across the area during the morning commute and we saw just over a quarter inch of rain in santa rosa to just shy of two-tenths in the danville area. live weather camera looking out towards the bay bridge. we have layers and layers of cloud. we have delays at sfo on some arriving flights. we have an active weather pattern. see that low over the pacific ocean? that's an area of low pressure, the frontal boundary first will impact our bay area tomorrow. and then behind it, even a more powerful, powerful rainstorm moving into the bay area. i tell you what we're going to do. we are going to track thursday and friday's rain event and tell you when to expect it and how much rain coming up later on. a public viewing under way for former first lady nancy reagan. this is live look at the ronald reagan presidential library in southern california where her body is lying in repose. reporter danielle nottingham is there as thousands of

two more attacks in the region. cbs reporter jonathan vigliotti says the violence comes as vice president joe biden visits the country. >> reporter: police secured the scene of yet another violent attack. this one on a bus near jerusalem where officers say two palestinians opened fire injuring one person. the shooting followed an attempted stabbing in the west bank earlier in the day. and a deadly stabbing spree the fight before in jaffa that killed an american student. the wave of violence hit as vice president joe biden visited israel to meet leaders on both sides of the conflict. >> israelis and visitors to israel cannot go on being afraid. >> reporter: biden was just a mile away from tuesday night's deadly stabbing and his wife and grandchildren were having dinner in the area. amateur video apparently shows the attacker fleeing the scene before police killed him. israel is facing threats from

outside the country, too. on wednesday, iran reportedly test-fired two ballistic missiles. it comes weeks after iran's historic nuclear deal with world powers. biden says the u.s. will take action if the deal is broken. villarreal, cbs news. >> more than 180 palestinians and at least 28 israelis have died during the violence in the last five months. back here at home now state lawmakers have prosed a tax on sugary drinks. it's all aimed in part at getting people to cut back. the legislation would force distributors to pay a health impact fee of 2 cents an ounce meaning a 12-ounce soft drink would cost you an extra 24 cents. the expected $2 billion a year in revenue would fund programs to prevent obesity and diabetes. an assemblyman from healdsburg authored the bill. chipotle shares continue to drop after at least one worker at a boston area restaurant tested positive for

gradually diminishing towards the evening commute. heavier rainfall on thursday but the most powerful rain will come on friday. this is the leading edge of the plume of moisture that's now clipping the northwestern quadrant of the state. we have this plume of moisture. it's streaming all the way back to the hawaiian islands so this is what's going to impact your forecast tomorrow. this is the core, the center of the area of low pressure. we have the rotation, the precipitation, and a counterclockwise position around the flow so that's going to sweep in for friday. let's go ahead and use our futurecast and time the rain together. that's the front passing through tomorrow morning. so the initial band will not impact most of the area for the morning commute. just north of the golden gate. here's your thursday lunchtime. you will want to pack your lunch and eat indoors and here's your friday everybody has periods of heavy rain during the morning, during the afternoon. clearing out by the evening commute. but there will be a lot of water on the roads. all right. here we go into your saturday. a bit of a break before more rain on sunday. we tally it up and here's totals.
