who gave laughs to millions f decades has died. four teams advance out of the sweet 16 with more hoops action on tap for today. good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. well, last night, belgian police arrested six suspects possibly connected to this week's attacks in brussels. here is the latest. at least one attacker remains at large. the suicide bombers were apparently targeting a nuclear site. belgium lowered its threat level a notch but says another attack is likely and possible. elaine cobb is in brussels. elaine, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. it's becoming increasingly clear the belgian police admit they omitted signs of att camera are now

two of them lived in the united states. >> elaine cobb in brussels, thank you, elaine. belgian basketball player and michigan resident sebastian bellin survived the brussels airport bombing. he was walking through airport security when the first bomb went off. >> i remember falling down and my hip just exploded. i looked down and, you know, i see like massive bones just sticking out and then i hear the second explosion and i think that is really what saved me because i was already on the ground. the explosion, the second one when with went off. >> he played college ball for new york and professionally in belgian. he has an american wife and two daughters. the brussels attack is raising new questions about nuclear plant security. we will have more on that coming up on "cbs this morning." the rhetoric between republicans donald trump and ted cruz has reached a new level of

personal insults now involving their wives. don champion is here in new york with the latest. good morning, don. >> reporter: good morning. the feud between cruz and trump gets nastier by the day. now establishment republicans are calling for cooler heads to prevail. the democrats, in the meantime, are eyeing new caucuses this weekend. the feud between ted cruz and donald trump keeps getting uglier. >> donald, you're a sibling coward and leave heidi union. >> reporter: cruz tweeted back after a tweet insult is his wife's appearance. >> let me be clear. our children and spouses are off bounds. >> reporter: trump claims cruz started the fight when an anti-trump super pac posted a wife of his wife melania. >> when passions flair, ugliness is sometimes inevitable but we shouldn't accept ugliness as the norm. >> reporter: on the democratic

side, front-runner hillary clinton is focused on the general election and appeared on jimmy kimmel. >> i look forward to debating him and find out where he stand on issues. >> like who the prime minister of canada is? >> no, but -- but -- >> reporter: on the campaign trail, thursday, her rival bernie sanders also turned his attention to trump. >> he will not become president because the american people understand that coming together as a people always "trumps" dividing us up! >> reporter: democrats hold caucuses in alaska, hawaii, and washington this weekend. clinton and sander have been campaigning heavily in california in recent days on the republican side, recent polls show donald trump leading ted cruz among republican women primary voters. his favor ability with women, on the floor, though, stand at just 19%.

>> don champion here in new york, thanks a lot, don. backlash this morning against a new north carolina law that prevents local governments from enacting anti-discrimination protections from gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people. opponents protested in the state capital last night. the law targeted a charlotte ordinance that would have enabled transgender people to use restrooms aligned with the gender they identify with. several major businesses with a large presence in north carolina say they will monitor the situation. and controversial legislation in georgia now on the governor's desk is also causing a stir. opponents say it makes it legal to dl has not said if he would sign the bill

but spoke about it earlier this month. >> i don't think we have to have anything that allows discrimination in our state in order to protect people's faith. >> the governor has until may 3rd to make a decision. if he doesn't sign it or veto it, it automatically becomes law. a small town in northwestern minnesota has been evacuated after a freight train collided with a propane truck. the two collided yesterday afternoon 50 miles east of fargo. the truck carrying propane caught fire, triggering the evacuation. >> i got scared and wait here and i hope my family is okay. law enforcement, they are doing a good job. >> two train crew members sustained nonlife-threatening injuries. the evacuation order is expected to be lifted this afternoon. an american citizen has reportedly admitted to trying to steal military secrets in north korea. news agencies in japan and china

are reporting the could nfessio yul. he says he is naturalized north korean citizen. the u.s. charged seven hackers linked to the iranian government with initiating large-scale cyberattacks threatening security and this country's well-being. the hackers gained access to dozens of banks and a small dam outside of new york city. the suspects are not in u.s. custody and it's not clear if they will ever be arrested. the fbi is still locked out of an iphone connected to the san bernardino terrorist attack. earlier this week, the fbi put its legal fight with apple over unlocking the phone on hold. an outside party had offered a possible way to gain access to the phone. in an update yesterday, the fbi said the method may work. firefighters are making progress against a wind-whipped fire in the grate plains. it has scorched more than 600 square miles of grassland on the

"variety" is paying tribute to garry shandling. the comedian died yesterday at a los angeles hospital. a spokesman says doctors believe he had a heart attack. he shifted from stand-up in the '80s with his first series "garry shandling show" but is best known for playing a late night host with a huge ego on "the garry shandling show". garry shandling was 66 years old. prosecutors say bruce wallis was running a prostitution ring with. with six to ten women. they say he has been taken off flying duties. a major recall by volkswagen.

scene. in 48 seconds, they lifted the vehicle off the woman! china's media reports she suffered only minor injuries. a baltimore woman has quite a story to tell after surviving a crash from the fourth floor of a parking garage. from the surveillance video, you can see her audi suv plummet to the ground. the woman was trying to park but then she plowed through a concrete barrier. unbelievably, she only has minor injuries. madonna is in hot water over warning her new york neighbors not to push her cars over the borderline. she was cited by the city over these excessive signs telling neighbors no parking in front of her multicar garage on the upper east side. the material girl went so far to etch the warning into the concrete. >> it's madonna. let her do what she wants. >> i certainly hope she complies with the law. >> totally "tongue in cheek,"

the moose! the ncaa tournament sweet 16 is down to just 12. the tournament resuming last night with four games. the top seed in the west, oregon, had no problem ousting the defending champions. the ducks beat duke 82-68. that sets up a meeting with the two seed in the west, oklahoma. the sooners take out texas a&m 77-63. the tournament's top overall seed is moving on. kansas pulls away from maryland in the second half to win 79-63. the jayhawks are headed to the elite eight for the first time since 2011. kansas will take on the number two seed in the south region, villanova. the wildcats notch another blowout, beating miami 92-69. this is villanova's deepest tournament run since making the final four in 2009. the action continues tonight on cbs. virginia faces iowa state and followed by syracuse and gonzaga. our coverage starts at 7:00 p.m.
