disruptions, making trips lr another weekend of tricky commutes on b.a.r.t. service disrupshzs making trips longer to complete in the bay area. that includes some passengers going to tonight's warriors game. good evening, i'm brian hackney. >> i'm maria medina. repairs are underway at the pittsburg bay point station. mark kelly explains if you plan on commuting between san leandro and bay fair, you're going to have a lot of trouble. >> reporter: here in san leandro we spotted b.a.r.t. crews working hard on a holiday weekend. >> we're replacing things on the aerial structures. >> reporter: that includes

2,000 feet of rail, 550 ties and other old degraded parts of the track. while that work is happening there's not a single train running from san leandro to bay fair. so riders have to hop on a bus. >> going to be late in this last minute affixture, it's very inconvenient. >> reporter: ac transit has a stream of free buses to shuttle riders between the two east bay stations but navigating this change could get confusing. >> everyone has to get off the train here at bay fair and then get on a bus and then reboard the system. they'll only be on blue line trains. they'll need to get back on a richmond train. we're saying to get back on a richmond train. >> reporter: got that? if not, b.a.r.t. says it has lots of staff at both stations guiding passengers to where they need to go. >> everything seems to be in order. >> what grade do you give b.a.r.t.?

>> i give it an a. >> reporter: come november, b.a.r.t. is going to need those happy riders. that's when the transit system is going to consider asking to approve a bond measure to help fix the aging track. >> we're really thankful for people's patience as they deal with the shutdown. >> reporter: in san leandro, mark kelly, kpix 5. >> a spokesperson says the work is on schedule and a track will be back open for the start of the work week commute. a smoother ride for commuters. it's reopened after repairs to a cracked light rail in san jose. bta closed the civic center while finishing up the work which started on thursday and now trains are running on the regular schedule. firefighters in oakland pulled off a daring and unusual rescue. >> they got a call about the foundation of the home, that it caved. when they arrived on scene they found a 17-year-old boy tracked under concrete at the bottom of a trench. in order to free him they had to get creative.

>> right now we're treating him with crush syndrome precaution. >> according to the homeowners, they hired the teen to do construction work. he's being treated at a nearby hospital as a precaution for possible crush syndrome. police need your help finding this man, miguel perez reyes, a visitor from alaska. he was last seen thursday in the 1100 block of steiner street. they say he has the mental capacity of a child and doesn't speak much english. police say his caregiver left him with her boyfriend, but when she returned, both men were missing and haven't been seen since. a brawl broke out at an easter celebration. it happened on louisiana street and vallejo, west of i-80. police say a family argument turned violent when someone brought out a baseball bat and started swinging. some of the victims were hit in the head but investigators say they'll all survive. overseas now, in belgium

dozens were arrested in raids this weekend as riot police clashed with hundreds of protesters. kenneth craig was in the middle of it all. >> reporter: police suited up in riot gear and used water canyons on hundreds of angry protesters who invaded a brussels memorial sunday for the victims of tuesday's attacks. this woman broke down in tears as the quiet and somber vigil erupted in to chaos. >> this is the same place thousands of people have come over the last couple of days to honor and mourn the dead. until now they've done that peacefully. that all changed on sunday. >> reporter: we're crying for our death. this woman shouted. a group of far right wing demonstrators including self-described soccer hooligans descended after a march was canceled there. sunday authorities also carried out in and around the capital

city and made four arrests. in italy video captured the arrest of nigerian man. 31 people died in tuesday's bombings and at least 270 were injured. but some belgians remain defiant. >> i'm not scared. i'm from brussels. i will never be scared. never. >> reporter: refusing to let fear and terrorism break them down. kenneth craig, cbs news, brussels, belgium. meanwhile today president obama called the families of the two americans killed in the attacks. justin and stephanie schultz were dropping off stephanie's mother at the airport when the first bomb went off. president obama says the couple epitomized what is good about america. he insured their parents they have the white house's unwavering support during this difficult time. investigators say a suicide bomber targeted a children's park in pakistan killing dozens and wounding hundreds more on

easter sunday. a faction of the taliban group claimed responsibility for the bombing. the park was crowded when the explosion took place near the children's rides. it killed 65 and hurt more than 300 people. in a related incident, facebook is apologizing for a glitch in its safety check feature about that pakistan bombing. some facebook users in the u.s. and uk asking if they were okay, it looked like they were in the affected area. facebook has since fixed the issue. after the president obama's historic trip to cuba last week, many americans are now wondering what's next for the former foes. but as anne makovec reports, the answer is likely nothing until at least next year. >> reporter: in the past week, cuba has seen visits by the rolling stones and the president of the united states. carnival cruise lines is announcing stops in the

communist country and cubans can post their homes on san francisco-based airbnb. >> the president has gone as far as he can go. >> reporter: congresswoman barbara lee accompanied the president. >> americans have the right to travel and people should be furious that they're denied the right to travel to cuba like to any other country in the world. >> reporter: while the president loosened travel restrictions and rules on companies doing business with cuba, it can only be lifted by congress. many members aren't on the president's page. >> they just got back from going to a baseball game celebrating and toasting a communist dictator who tortures and murders his citizens. >> reporter: ted cruz 's father was a cuban immigrant. he's not interested in cuban relations. more than half a dozen bills to amend or repeal the embargo have

floated through congress but the gop leadership has not scheduled any votes. it's not likely that will happen until after the november election. >> even if we lifted the embargo tomorrow, cubans would not realize their potential without continued change here in cuba. >> reporter: as we watch for more change here in the u.s. >> all of the issues that are so tough to deal with, you can't get them resolved unless you're talking and negotiating and engaging. >> reporter: anne makovec, kpix 5. >> amid the warming relations, president obama talked about his commitment to shut down the facility in guantanamo bay. a disturbing fine. what an east bay woman says she found in a bag of decorations. >> where the first family celebrated the holiday. we'll have the details coming up.

major prostitution sting th weekend. in north bay more than a dozen men are behind bars after a major prostitution sing this weekend. undercover officers posed as prostitutes on north texas street. suspects who offered money for sexual acts were booked in to solano county jail. among the 14 arrested, the

youngest was 19. a livermore woman claims she made quite the discovery as she was preparing easter baskets this weekend. take a look at the pictures she took of two small razor blades she says she found in a bag of easter grass. she claims she bought the grass from a store in livermore. it didn't have any tears or punctures. she says she's contacted police and store workers who pulled the item off the shelves. meanwhile, pope francis kicked off his fourth easter mass this morning in st. peter's square. >> he's addressing international unrest. the pope denounced what he called, quote, blind and brutal terrorism. he urged nations to open their doors to those fleeing war. back in the u.s., president obama and the first family attended easter mass at a church in alexandria, virginia. tomorrow they'll host the annual easter egg roll on the white

kpix fiv cities across the country are turning to tiny homes to help house the homeless. >> how sonoma county plans to build an entire village of them. >> we have a 50-foot by 200-foot lot that's been looked at for a trial project to safely shelter

the homeless. >> reporter: on this small piece of sonoma county government campus, micah sees a new answer to an old problem. >> the water is right across the street and the sewer was down about 350 feet. >> reporter: with homelessness challenging communities from santa rosa gurnsville, the city has decided to try something new. over 30 proposals have been submitted for this site, all using the idea of the tiny home. >> to see the site with the south facing exposure, i just came to lifes thinking of what a great place to use our solar powered mobile sustainable units. >> reporter: his plan is to roll out trailers, each able to house three people and easy to move if the county decides to reprps the land. >> it comes in eight feet wide, street legal, and opens up to almost 23 feet wide. >> reporter: it's been pitched in cities like san francisco and oakland often by artists and

volunteers that see those small structures as an easy solution to shelter needs but those efforts have often run in to trouble because no matter how tiny the house ultimately needs a home. and that's where santa rosa has really taken a lead, offering up this piece of land and asking people to submit some tiny ideas. >> it's really progress idea that time has come. >> you came over to see the site. >> i came over to see the site and i was pretty impressed. sonoma county is one of the only counties that from a government level is trying to solve this problem. >> reporter: so this tiny lot will become a laboratory for the tiny home theory. if it works, tiny neighborhoods can truly become the next big thing in emergency housing. >> everyone wants to help the homeless but what does that look like in your town? >> reporter: in santa rosa, wilson walker, kpix 5. >> wilson tells us sonoma county officials are currently reviewing those 34 submissions. on union street in san francisco today take a look, the

weather was just right for the easter parade and spring celebration. the 5-block street fair was packed with people, games, rides, and big bird. but the star of the parade was of course the easter bunny himself. speaking of stars. >> it didn't rain on anybody's parade. not out here, anyway. we have winds picking up, gusts to 40 miles per hour at sfo. and fairly strong winds will be with us through midday tomorrow. and high clouds coming south right now kind of an indication of changes going on. that's going to cool things down, at least continue to keep it cool. out on the embarcadero, nice day to enjoy beautiful easter sunday with temperatures fairly nice. low to mid 60s around the bay area. it will be a little bit cooler tomorrow. we'll come back and look live toward mount diablo and show you the numbers in concord. san jose, 64. santa rosa, 67 degrees.

high clouds march south out the door tomorrow morning. partly cloudy skies and numbers begin monday morning in the upper 40s and low 50s. so it will be a little bit chilly before high pressure finally begins to take over midweek. between now and then, deepening low over utah and nevada will usher in cool air coming down from canada and dry northwesterly winds. it will be breezy, cool, and then latter half of the week, high pressure will build in and warm things up. just to give you an idea of what's happening right now, i'll show you where the stronger winds are. let's roll this ahead in forecast mode. you can see those bright colors remain with us especially along the coast before they begin to abate by tomorrow afternoon. so closer to the shoreline, pretty strong breeze. you go inland, not bad. 20-mile-per-hour winds. futurecast shows high clouds sweep through tonight. tomorrow looks mostly sunny. a few showers flirt with the sonoma county coastline but looks like they're going to miss us. nevertheless there's a bit of an outside chance of a few drops by

the shore. for the rest of the day, tomorrow looks pretty nice. some high clouds building up over mount hamilton. general feeling will be sunny but brisk. tomorrow the coolest day of the week. just a slight sprinkle chance. then by the time we get to midweek, things will be warming up, drying out, and plenty of sunshine through the weekend. in the meantime we'll have to suffer with temperatures in the low 60s. as we head out to the mountains, a little disturbance coming through we see in the form of high clouds, we'll create snow in the mountains. lake tahoe and yosemite expecting a little bit of snow. overnight tonight, 40s. sunrise, 7:00 straight up tomorrow morning. extended forecast, we'll warm it gently after we cool it down on monday. in to the mid 60s by wednesday. then we'll nudge 70 degrees again by the time we get in to saturday and sunday. we'll be back in to about 70 and 71 degrees. ladies and gentlemen, this is the time of the show when usually i say now the most
