a teen-age boy trapped under concrete, what he was doing moments before part of a home caved in next.

live from the cbs bay area studios this is kpix5 news. the concrete. evening, i'm bria trapped in a trench when part of a house caves in, a teenage boy gets stuck under the concrete. good evening. i'm brian hackney. >> i'm ma -- maria medina. at the bottom of the rubble, a boy. >> reporter: contractors were fixing a water leak working on the foundation. suddenly around 10:45 a.m. some heavy concrete slabs broke loose and fell on top of one of the workers, a 17-year-old boy. he was pinned to the ground. as you can see, there's about a 6-foot ditch right in front of the home. this is where the boy got trapped. >> the little concrete collapsed on him and it was

like his legs and stomach. >> reporter: cindy orasco lives in the building. she said the fire department told everyone to leave as they worked diligently to rescue the boy whose body was getting crushed by the weight. was he hurt? >> at first he yesterday. he was in a lot of pain. his stomach was hurting because there was a lot of pressure. >> reporter: first rescuers had to make sure the ditch didn't collapse further. so they broke the concrete into pieces, pulled some dirt out, shored up the walls of the trench and stabiliz the foundation. >> we were able to anchor the corner of the house and slide the concrete slabs off the individual. >> reporter: the teenager was rushed to highlands hospital. his injuries were not life threatening, but he was treated for the possibility of crush syndrome which can in the most severe cases lead to organ failure, not uncommon in earthquake victims trapped under debris for a while. meanwhile inspectors yellow tagged the home describing

severe foundation damage, a much worse problem than when they started. nearly a dozen people are without a home tonight after a fire tore through their santa rosa a four plex. flames and gray smoke filled the home. the fire broke out about 4:30. two people went to the hospital for smoke inhalation. the damage is extensive. >> damage is probably about 6 or $700,000 just due to the fact of two units have been destroyed and two other units have moderate damage. >> no word on the cause yet, but the fire department said there were reports of explosions before flames broke out. we have learned only on 5 tonight the alleged owner of a chan of medical marijuana clinic -- chain of medical marijuana clinics is facing charges again. kpix5's juliette goodrich first reported last year on the illegal clinics. this time the man is accused of using them to launder millions of dollars. >> reporter: he's hiding from our camera in trouble with the

law again, a man called mikhail malenkov hauled off to jail for the third time. we met up with the now 30-year- old last year in court. he claims he's just a regular guy waiting tables and making money on the side doing web work, but prosecutors say he's the ringleader of a multi- million dollar criminal enterprise. c (trim) so i think they realize the winds their time t he's alleged to own a chain of medical marijuana referral clinics called 420 md in oakland, berkeley, san jose and sacramento. according to court documents, malenkov and his associates hired doctors on craigslist, pay them by the hour to write recommendations and rake in the cash. d clinic we observed gain .. wi that wo six people were arrested and charged last year with money laundering, conspiracy and the unlawful practice of medicine, but the clinic like this one on telegraph avenue in oakland kept right on seeing patients. >> i don't even think they'd ever closed more than an hour

or so after the last arrest. >> reporter: the santa clara county deputy d.a. victor chen is prosecuting the case. >> if it's legalized, there's no need to have a medical marijuana referral clinic. they realize the window is closing and it's worth their time to grab as much cash as they can before they're basically put out of business. >> reporter: he says new evidence shows the four clinics issued over 92,000 medical marijuana recommendations in the last 28 months. a basic card costs 65 bucks, but as we found out in an undercover visit, most people spend more, much more. a picture id costs an extra $20. then there's the $50 protection plan. >> it comes with a business card for our defense attorney who specializes in cannabis law. >> reporter: and the so-called growing limitation exemption. >> for higher amounts this id, 11 pounds is for $299. >> if he's the owner/operator as indicated by our evidence,

he has made roughly $9.5 million in the last 28 months. >> reporter: yet chen says malenkov claims he only made $6,000 prompting the d.a. to file new tax evasion charges. where is the missing money? we got a tim the money is picked up every -- tip the money is picked up every week at all four clinics by this man. minutes after going into the oakland clinic we observed him coming out again with a large backpack. we showed the video to d.a. chen. >> it looks like he fit the description of the person who would be carrying or picking up the cash. >> reporter: where is all the money going? >> we've been able to trace much of the money, like i said, through some bank accounts. >> reporter: and to an address in this upscale los angeles suburb. that's where the l.a. county sheriff arrested malenkov and the alleged bagman at daybreak one recent morning. investigators with the department of consumer affairs searched the home for hours coming out eventually with a

large box of evidence and over $90,000 in cash. in a first court appearance malenkov's defense attorneys argue the new charges should be dismissed. >> the count is basically repetitious compared to what's been filed and we'll seek to have mr. malenkov released on his own recognizance on an ankle bracelet like he was briefly. >> reporter: back at the clinic it's business as usual once again. juliette goodrich, kpix5. >> six other defendants including two doctors are named in the latest complaint. malenkov remains in jail on a $125,000 bail. a livermore woman claims she made a dangerous discovery inside a bag of easter decorations. melissa meyer took these photos of two razor blades she said she found in a package of easter grass. she said the bag was not open when she bought it and that she called police. we're waiting to hear back from them. the store had no comment.

a driver is dead after he slammed head on into another car in san francisco today. police think the man had a medical emergency causing the crash in the mission dolores neighborhood. investigators shut down roads in the area before 6:00. the other driver walked away with minor injuries. san francisco police are asking for your help to find a missing man. miguel perez reyes was last seen thursday on the 1100 block of signer street. he's 57, speaks little english and has the mettle capacity of a child. police say -- mental capacity of a child. police say his caregiver left him with a boy friend. when she returned, both men were gone. mixed reaction tonight over the potential of a higher minimum wage in california. state lawmakers struck a tentative deal that could boost california's minimum wage from $10 to $15 an hour by 2022. some say it will help people make ends meet. other worry it could backfire forcing businesses to hike prices or lay off employees.

an official announcement from the governor could come as early as tomorrow. in a race for the white house donald trump leads in the republican field in california more than two months before the state's primary. according to a recent poll, trump has 37% of the vote among registered republicans in california. texas senator ted cruz is second with 30%. ohio governor john kasich has 12%. california's primary is june 7th. on the democratic side senator bernie sanders is challenging hillary clinton to a debate in her homestate of new york before its primary next month. on nbc's meet the press the vermont senator said he wanted to hold the debate in new york city which his advisors considered to be a crucial battleground. he worries he won't get to face off with her again before the april 19th primary. clinton has yet to comment according to the new york times. a horrific scene in pakistan, another act of terror

chase that started in sherman oaks and ended in chanceworth. san leandro police are looking for vandals who marred a popular park. police found racial slurs on the amphitheater wall last night. a city crew quickly moved it before families arrived for easter sunday today. police believe the vandalism was gang related. an update on the trials and tribulations of b.a.r.t. which says service on the fremont line should be normal tomorrow after crews began much needed track repairs this weekend between the san leandro and bay fair stations. they started repairing 2,000 feet of rail, more than 950 ties and other old parts of the track. several more weekends of work are scheduled. >> we're replacing a wide variety of things on the aerial structures here. >> ac transit operated free shuttle buses to riders between the two east bay stations. san jose the crews have finished repairing a stretch of

light rail track that was cracked. crews completed the work now and service there is back to normal, but now we're getting word stations between civic center and convention center are temporarily closed because of some police activity tonight. so a bus bridge is operating in the meantime. cities across the country are building tiny hopes to help get people off the -- homes to help get people off the streets. we'll see how one bay area plans to build an entire village of them. >> we have a 50-foot by 100- foot lot that's been looked at a trial project to safely shelter the homeless. >> reporter: on this small piece of government campus this man sees a new answer to an old problem. >> the water is across the street. the sewer was down about 350 feet. >> reporter: with homelessness challenging communities from santa rosa to guerneville the county decided it's time to try something new. 34 different proposals have

been submitted for in site all using the idea of the tiny home. >> to see the site with the south facing exposure, i just came to life thinking of what a great place to use our solar powered mobile sustainable units. >> reporter: yes, his plan is to roll out a handful of solar powered spanneddable trailers each -- expandable trailers each able to house three people and easy to move. >> it comes in 8-foot wide street legal and opens to almost 22 feet wide. >> reporter: the tiny home idea has been pitched in san francisco and oakland often by artists and volunteers who see the small structures as an easy solution to shelter needs, but those efforts often run into trouble because no matter how tiny the house ultimately needs a home. that's where santa rosa has taken the lead offering up this piece of land and asking people to submit some tiny ideas. >> it's really progressive idea

that's time has come. i came over just to see the site and i was really impressed. in fact, sonoma county is one of the only counties that from a government level is trying to solve this problem. >> reporter: so this tiny lot will become a county sponsored laboratory for the tiny home theory. if it works, tiny neighborhoods could truly become the next big thing in emergency housing. >> because everyone wants to help the homeless, but what does that look like in your town? >> reporter: in santa rosa wilson walker, kpix5. on this easter sunday joy, service and praise filled san francisco's glide memorial church. thousands gathered there and after the service many stayed to help feed those in need. volunteers fed 3 to 5,000 people. the church serves free food year-round. >> almost 50% of the people who we serve meals to are housed. they have shelter and many have jobs, but they can't afford to buy food and to make ends meet. >> church leaders say they need

more volunteers because the number of people who come to them for help is growing. gun store. all right. the winds up around the bay area tonight with gusts up to 37 miles an hour at sfo at 11:00, so it's blowing out there and it will through midmorning tomorrow. looking live from the top of transamerica pyramid, not looking bad, santa rosa and napa clear skies, mostly cloudy at the airport and san francisco and in the city it's 52 degrees. out the door tomorrow we don't do much better. we start out in the upper 40s, low 50s to begin going back to work tomorrow with partly cloudy skies. as this weak little cold front comes through, low pressure settles into the inner mountain region. that low combines with a high over the pacific northwest. that means dry northwesterly winds, breezy and cool through tuesday. tomorrow is the coolest day of the week with numbers not managing much better than low

to mid-60s. overnight the winds close to the shoreline and in the north bay some good gusts. inland not much. as the day goes on, early hours you can see the red along the shoreline indicating higher wind gusts close to the shore, not bad around the bay. a little breezy. futurecast, a few showers pop up off point reyes, shouldn't affect us. the low pressure is too far east. there'sen much moisture for us -- there's not much moisture for us, but in the top right corner of the screen, that little tiny echo won't affect us. as we've got mostly sunny skies in the offing for monday, cool tomorrow and breezy with a slight sprinkle chance in case this little blob heads our way. it shunt. we'll be in the 70s by next weekend. out of the bay area snow at lake tahoe and yosemite because they're close enough to that weather disturbance they'll get a little snow.

up in redding 66 degrees, 65 in sacramento, 61 for fresno, not a bad day to head out or stay home. overnight lows tonight we'll be seeing partly cloudy skies, maybe a bit of drizzle and forecast highs tomorrow close to where we should be this time of the year. south bay sunshine, low to mid- 60s. in the east bay cooler with temperatures managing low to mid-60s. north bay cooler yet and windier yet especially out by bodega bay and stinson beach and the shoreline, mid-60s. clearlake 64. extended forecast, some sun, some clouds tomorrow again coolest day tomorrow and then a degree a day is all we ask until by the weekend we'll be up to the low 70s and a nice weekend ahead. between now and then not so bad either. that's what's ahead in weather. what's ahead in news? what's ahead is a crash and grab, thieves ram their way into a gun store.

heist in southern californi it happe police say burglars made off with 15 guns in an early morning heist in ventura around 4 a.m. today. an alarm went off at red seal arms gun store. when police arrived, they found the thieves had backed a big rig into the front of the store and ransacked the place. >> that's amazing to me looking at it right now. these guys must have really wanted the guns. >> investigators say in the escape one suspect dropped the gun and on that gun they found blood. we're testing it now looking for a dna -- they're testing it now looking for a dna match. police were called to a disturbance during a neighborhood egg hunt in washington state. officers say the hunt was interrupted by a man screaming that his roommates were going to shoot him. at this house police discovered a large scale marijuana distribution operation. pot and 100- >> we kind of suspected that something was occurring. the house always smelled like marijuana every time you're walking to the bus stop to pick
