police now say his ex- girlfriend and her child are missing. kpix 5's emily turner has the story. >> reporter: stanislaus petrov first made headlines in november when video surfaced of alameda county deputies beating him up in a san francisco street after a police chase. he since has been arrested several times for various charges and is in jail after the fbi raided a place on teddy street where they say he spend a lot of time and took him into custody. >> i think they are trying to open the house. >> reporter: now petrov's ex- girlfriend dana is missing along with her 17-month-old baby girl. they are reported missing yesterday, the same day he was arrested in the fbi raid for guns and drugs and the same day a shooting happened outside the house that was raided. police will not say whether foul play was involved in the disappearance of dana or her little girl. but they haven't been seen

since march 14. emily turner, kpix 5. the solano county sheriff's office has released a sketch of a suspect who robbed and attacked people near lake berryessa. the victims say the man approached them on the trail and assaulted one of them before demanding money. bart is testing regular train service between the pittsburg-bay point and north concord-martinez stations this weekend. trying to figure out what caused voltage spikes that damaged dozens of train cars, engineers are moving cars that are most prone to equipment failure off the tracks and replacing them with cars that have better systems. if everything goes well, regular service will continue for the monday commute. the home of baseball is changing. o.co is no more.

an as spokesman says overstock decided not to renew its contract for the naming rights. so for now, the stadium is back to its original name, "the coliseum." overstock's corporate sponsorship with the a's will remain in place. a bizarre accident in southern california. a woman was killed when a plane crashed on the freeway hitting the car that she was in. the single-engine plane landed on top of the car on interstate 15 about 50 miles north of san diego. and then people driving by pulled the 62-year-old pilot an his passenger from the wreckage. they were rushed to the hospital along with three other people from the car. witnesses say the plane appeared to have issues in the air and was flying erratically as it hit the ground. >> can't imagine what it's like to be a motorist to see a plane landing on a freeway and specifically what do you do? um, it's a tough situation. we don't teach that too much in teen driving programs how to avoid planes. >> a spokesman says a driver of the car had pulled over on the

freeway to sync his bluetoot connection moments before the crash. also the plane in today's crash had landed safely on that same stretch of freeway 16 years ago. >> wow. on to the race for the white house. california's secretary of state just announced the name that will appear on the june 7th presidential primary ballot. there are five republicans, donald trump, ted cruz, john kasich, as well as ben carson and jim gillmor who both suspended their campaigns. now, on the democratic side, the big names hillary clinton and bernie sanders along with real estate tycoon rocky de la fuente, henry hughes and several others. today sarah palin joined donald trump on the campaign trail in wisconsin. couple of recent polls show ted cruz ahead of trump in wisconsin since trump's latest comments about women. he has come under fire for

saying he would punish women who seek abortions if they were made illegal. today he accused of the media of manipulating his words. >> they take things and they say it's -- it's -- very, very interesting. the problem is they don't do it with everybody. they do it with me. but i don't see them doing it with other people. >> ted cruz was the only gop candidate to attend the north dakota republican state convention before going to wisconsin. meanwhile, the campaign for the democratic candidates are at odds over a date for a possible debate before the new york primary. the clinton and sanders campaigns are accusing each other of political gamesmanship. the new york primary is april 19. and looking ahead, president obama will visit california this coming week. no official word yet on his agenda. but the white house says he will stop in los angeles thursday before heading to a couple of fundraisers in san francisco on friday. marijuana proponents gathered in front of the white house today calling on the president to legalize pot.

they waved signs and participated in a, quote, mass consumption of cannabis at 4:20 p.m. protestors say decriminalizing it will lead to more medical research. the district of columbia legalized marijuana last year. but it is still illegal to smoke it in public there. tensions are building in the belgium suburb that's home to individuals connected to the deadly bombings in paris and brussels. today police arrested at least 7 people after clashes broke out during right wing demonstrations in the predominantly muslim neighborhood. authorities have banned all demonstrations in brussels since the march 22 terrorist attacks. and the first flights since those attacks are expected to take off from the brussels airport tomorrow. officials say for now, departure areas will only operate at 20% capacity. 10 people were killed at an airport in last month's suicide bombings. they were among at least 32 people killed in attacks that day. a symbol of unity was

unveiled today in the aftermath of the boston marathon bombings. >> whoo! [ applause and cheers ] >> the sign reading "boston strong" will be visible to runners of this year's boston marathon. it will be the third raisins two pressure cooker bombs were set off near the finish line in 2013 killing three people and injuring dozens more. the city of flint says it's getting ready to sue the state of michigan over its lead- tainted water crisis. flint's chief legal officer says the municipality will sue for damage to the water system and for legal costs. more than 50 lawsuits have been filed since january over the crisis. the city says it doesn't have the fund it need to defend it testify. flint is accused of not doing enough to help people during the 18 months it was getting its drinking water from the polluted flint river. no cars allowed on the roads of mexico for one day a week. authorities announced the new rule as the region deals with the worst air pollution in more

of parents in developing countries whose children are born with cleft lip or cleft palate. in the united states, these deformities are corrected shortly after birth. but in many countries around the world, these children are left untreated and are shunned. [ music ] [ children's voices ] >> roma downey: i'm in le loi hospital. the volunteer operation smile medical team has come from all over the world to perform surgeries, and parents have brought their children here, hoping that they'll be selected. nine-year-old sut has been ridiculed and rejected all his life. sut isn't even his real name, but that's what he's been called from the day he was born. sut means harelip; a terrible name for a child born with a cleft lip. he's from a very poor family who could never afford surgery. when he was 5, he went for his first day of school.

the other kids laughed at him and made fun of him, so he ran away from school, and he's never been back. he has problems speaking, eating, and drinking. >> leslie rice: he's got to be able to move his lip, so that's the first part of speech. so, that's why we've got to be able to fix this part, so he can talk better. can you open your mouth wide? good. can i hear you say ahhhh? >> ahhhh. >> leslie rice: there are so many children who have facial deformities and cleft palate and cleft lip and they need so much attention and help and especially how we do it at home, so young, and to think that we have 7 and 8-year-olds in these countries that need help. >> peggy stillman: if we don't do it, the children are going to have deformities for the rest of their lives. it'll affect their happiness, their ability to speak, the way they look.

and if we can just do a simple procedure, it may only take an hour to do something that will change their lives forever. [ child crying ] >> dr. bill magee: operation smile began when my wife kathy and i were asked to go on a medical mission to the philippines to take care of children who were born with cleft lips and cleft palates. >> kathy magee: well, in the philippines, we turned away 250 children and we always had hoped that we would be able to take care of those kids. and we went back. we gathered a group of our friends and we did that. we took care of those children. >> dr. bill magee: that decision literally changed the course and the direction of our lives, our family's lives, our values and, i believe, our purpose in life. >> roma downey: this little guy's name is son. he's two years old. he was born with both a cleft lip and a cleft palate,

which is an opening in the roof of his mouth. his mom is very worried. son has difficulty eating and often chokes on his food. [ child crying ] they don't have enough money for rice, much less to afford this surgery. she never, ever thought he might have this chance. she says she wants him to be handsome. the hardest part is, operation smile can't possibly operate on all these children this week. more than 500 kids have come here for screening, most of them from miles and miles away. but we'll only be able to help about 100 children, this trip. >> dr. bill magee: why should any child, anywhere on this planet, have to live a life of misery because someone isn't there to take care of them? there is no justice in that. [ music ]

[ children laughing ] >> roma downey: ngan, who's 3, has a beautiful smile, but it wasn't always this way. she was born with a cleft lip and cleft palate. last year, operation smile repaired her lip and she's back now to have surgery on her palate. [ music ] [ loudspeaker in foreign language ] this is the day everyone's been waiting for. hundreds of families have been gathered here in the hot sun since very early this morning, after having spent the last two nights on the floor in the hospital. they're hoping and praying to hear their child's name called, to hear that they've been selected for surgery. they've been calling out children's names for over an hour now, and the families that haven't been called are getting worried. you can feel the tension and anxiety in the air.
