-- a deadly derailment invog amtrak. we got off track then it was like a big explosion. then it was a fire. >> for the second time in about a year, a deadly derailment involving amtrak. good evening, i'm brian hackney. >> i'm juliette goodrich. two people are dead and 35 injured after an amtrak train derailed this morning. it happened just outside of philadelphia in the town of chester, pennsylvania. reporter chris van clete is on the scene. >> reporter: amtrak says its train 89 was traveling from new york, to savannah, georgia when it struck a back hoe on the

tracks. >> our windows busted out. some people were cut up. it was just dust everywhere. >> reporter: the train was packed with 341 passengers. nearly three dozen people from the train were taken to area hospitals. their injuries were described as not life-threatening. >> we had two deceased, but they were not passengers on the train. >> reporter: the accident halted service along the portion of amtrak's heavily traveled northeast corridor on one of the railroad's busiest travel days. residents heard the commotion and ran outside to see what happened. >> i can't imagine somebody's husband, father, brother going to work maybe last night and to know they won't come home today. >> reporter: passengers were evacuated from the train and taken by bus to the amtrak station in philadelphia. the derailment comes almost a year after another amtrak train jumped the tracks in philadelphia. eight people died in that crash. families rushed to the scene and embraced their loved ones. kris van cleave, cbs news.

a san mateo man who went missing last week has been found dead. 39-year-old michael schaeffer was last scene march 28th. the medical examiner's office says it was contacted about his death yesterday. they haven't released any details including a cause of death. tomorrow a pivotal moment for california. anne makovec shows us while governor jerry brown is set to sign a bill that will boost the state's minimum wage, not everybody is happy about it. >> reporter: governor jerry brown is set to make history, making california the first state to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour. >> it's a matter of making a more secure harmonious society. >> reporter: it will happen over the next six years. the state's $10 an hour minimum wage, already the highest in the country, would rise to $10.50 next january with subsequent increases to $15 by 2022. >> those who earn the least do

need more. they've got to pay for housing and food and maybe college for their kids. >> reporter: many republicans oppose the wage hike and are upset about the dizzying speed on which it was voted. >> i don't argue this is an illusive promise. the individual who will now have this $15 and may be better off, may be better off but for a short period of time. because that job may quickly and likely in many cases be eliminated. >> reporter: the measure does include a caveat along with the governor to suspend increases during economic downturns or budget deficits. a competing measure, which would have been on the ballot this november, included no such options. >> if it's done at the ballot, we the legislature and the governor would have our hands tied. if the economy softened, if we needed to make some fine tuning to it. >> reporter: but skeptics don't think that will help. the california business round table warns any pause in wage

hurts cruz. >> recent polls show trump trailing cruz ahead of tuesday's vote in wisconsin. on the democratic side, it's a debate about debate. the campaign for hillary clinton and bernie sanders are trying to work out when and where they can debate before the april 19th new york primary. hillary clinton talked about it today on nbc's meet the press. >> i'm confident that there will be, but i'm not the one negotiating. that's going on between our campaigns. i do know my campaign has been really trying to get a time that senator sanders' campaign would agree with. >> the sanders campaign originally called for a democratic debate in new york months ago. today clinton aides accused the sanders operation of rejecting three specific dates. the man at the center of a bizarre legal saga will head to federal court tomorrow. stanislaus petrov was seen beaten by sheriff's deputies

then this past weekend was arrested. hours before the fbi came knocking, there was a shooting at the same apartment. cal train is becoming more bike friendly. starting tomorrow, cal train will add a third bike car, allowing up to 72 bikes onboard during rush hours. the transit system is also adjusting its timetable slightly to improve schedule accuracy. the moves come amid booming ridership. on average, more than 60,000 people take cal train every week. for the upcoming work week, b.a.r.t. will continue to run two shuttle trains from pittsburgh bay point to north concord, martinez. the mass transit agency tested the stretch of rail yesterday and determined it's still not ready for full service. other newly formed team of b.a.r.t. engineers still trying to figure out what's causing a bolted spike in that portion of the track. chp had quite a chase on the bay bridge this morning. >> as mark kelly explains, it wasn't a car, and the suspect

had four legs. >> he was running in to the city. he didn't want anything to do with us. >> reporter: late for an appointment in the city or just plain lost, we can't say. but we do know this 10-pound chihuahua was no easy chase for chp. >> the little guy was going and wasn't stopping. >> reporter: officer williams said the hot pursuit lasted about 5 minutes. but the little black dog brought 7 a.m. traffic to a halt. and with no paw cuffs in the squad car, catching him required officers to get a little creative. >> they don't really teach you this stuff at the academy, how to do this stuff. have to use my jacket to distract him and then the motor officer came up and took him in to custody. >> the chp says once they got the little guy down off the bridge, they noticed he had no i.d. so they had no choice but to take him downtown. >> he was angry. he was not happy to see us. >> the chihuahua has likely ran his last bay bridge sprint.

gold medals and one world cup title. earlier today she posted an apology, saying she takes full responsibility for her actions. almost two weeks after the deadly belgium bombings, the brussels airport is reopened. the first passenger flight took off from brussels to portugal. another will head to italy and the third to greece. the flights are symbolic and will mark a new high security era for air travel in belgium. a group of vandals terrorizing a san leandro neighborhood with bb guns have taken aim at people. this is the vehicle described, similar to a toyota 4runner. two people have been wounded by bb pellets but the main targets are car windows. these men are responsible for vandalizing at least 125 cars causing upwards of $60,000 in damage. >> these are not burglaries. they're nothing more than people committing acts of vandalism to

it happened on i-80 in placer county. all 40 students onboard got off okay but much of their luggage went up in smoke. a bizarre find in the south bay. officials say a young girl found a decapitated head of a junipero statue. investigators say it belongs to this statue of junipero serra. its head was lobbed off last october after pope francis made serra a saint. back here, a big sinkhole turning in to one big money pit. >> a well-to-do east bay town says it doesn't have the money to fix it. since the last spell of rainy weather, it's been a mess. the town is now asking the state to pick up the tab. >> reporter: march 13th, this sinkhole was a hype of activity, but today it's an abandoned but secure hole in the ground that

isn't going anywhere any time soon. >> when i started seeing nobody out there, i was like uh-oh, somebody's got to be out. >> reporter: what's up could be a state of emergency and certainly a desperate situation for the town of miraga. it will cost $3.5 million to fix, money the city says it does not have. >> how is there not an emergency fund for something like this to fix? >> although it's a fairly affluent community, the revenues we receive is not enough overall. >> reporter: miraga has asked the governor to declare a state of emergency so the state can pay for repairs. while the repair tab gets passed around like a hot potato, the sinkhole sits and waits, which means the businesses are too. >> we're getting no new customers. usually springtime, we probably be doing at least 30%, 40% more with the new clientele.

all we have are regulars parking and walking. >> on april 27th public works will present several options to fix this sinkhole as well as exactly how much it will cost. they have to wait for the original study to find out exactly what caused it. emily turner, kpix 5. >> the entire 125-foot intersection will have to be ripped out to fix the infrastructure underground. in the weather department, it's going to be a week unlike a week we've ever seen at this time of year before. with numbers approaching the low 90s inland, record setting territory at least as we look toward the bay bridge, a sharp heat spike coming in to the bay area. it will begin on tuesday. it will end on thursday. so it's not going to last long, but still, wow, pretty extraordinary. you'll see the numbers in a minute. right now the city is at 57 degrees and concord has 70. oakland, 61. san jose, 66. today was actually cooler than it was yesterday at this time by about 5 degrees but the heat is on. still be mild tomorrow.

numbers will come up a little bit. the temperatures, however, begin to climb tuesday. that sets the stage for a record setting day on wednesday when highs top out near 92 degrees. even the coast with the offshore push should be in the 70s. so interesting week ahead. we get a chance of rain by the end of the week, at least a chance. out the door tomorrow morning, quite a contrast. chance of drizzle with a weak cold front coming down. partly cloudy. inland, partly cloudy as well. so a chilly start to monday but a mild finish. beach hazard advisory still in effect until 9:00 tonight for strong rip currents. mild tomorrow, warming tuesday, hot wednesday. high pressure bubbles back up in to the bay area. see that weak cold front on the way. it will take all the power out of the cold front. just a few high clouds overhead by 8:00 tomorrow morning. the forecast at least is for a lot of fog down the salinas

valley, but for us, mostly sunny for the rest of the day and when that fog disappears on monday, the last we'll see of it until friday. here's what we're going to expect. low clouds tonight. a little bit of drizzle. partly sunny tomorrow. but warmer temperatures. then highs near 92 midweek. 82 at fresno and 61 at yosemite. 79 at sacramento. tomorrow we're still above average with numbers beginning to creep up. 76 at concord. san jose, 73. oakland, 71 degrees. south bay, very pleasant tomorrow. mid 70s will do it for the most part. in the east bay, sunshine and temperatures in the mid 70s. the closer you are to the shoreline tomorrow and some of the inland valleys, santa clara valley, a little bit in novato and around there up the petaluma river valley, a little bit of fog, but then after that sunshine and 70 in petaluma. 72 in novato. warm at ukiah. 73 degrees. 74 for lakeport. record heat midweek on the way.

home. he was in jeopardy of losing his foot. so needless to say, the grand old game wasn't on his mind at the start of the 2015 season. axford is my guest on game day tonight. >> i think we hadn't broken camp yet. i was still sleeping in the hospital next to him. a night like this a year ago. it happened march 25th last year. i was in the hospital for about a week staying by his side. it was tough breaking camp. he was in a good place at that point after a week being in the hospital and being with the doctors. he was still in icu for a month but my heart was definitely heavy at the beginning of the year. >> how is he now? >> amazing. he has some obstacles to come, probably some surgery to come but he's a crazy little man. he's fantastic. he's amazing. i look up to him every single day when i look at that boy and

journeyman jim herman won today to get in to augusta. off the green at 16, chipped in for birdie and a one-stroke lead over stenson. he needed a putt to drop to 18th to tie herman at 15 under but the putt is off the mark. herman needed a tap-in on 18 to hold off for the win. his first career pga tour victory. herman used to work at a pro shop in one of donald trump's golf courses. trump gave him some money to get back in to pro golf. that will give you a little sunday wrap-up. what's going on so far, we'll be back about an hour from now. the warriors trying to avoid a second straight loss at home. you know what happened with the boston celtics on friday. hopefully the story won't be the same tonight. back to you guys in studio. >> you're going to bring them
