an officer-involved shooting in san francisco. >> get on the ground! lay on the ground! >> and this video just into the kpix 5 newsroom obtained by the "chronicle" is from the shooting on shotwell street. it happened out of the view of the camera but an officer can be heard ordering the suspect to get down on the ground. police were called to the scene by a homeless outreach team which said the man threatened members and waving a large knife. officers say he threatened them. some witnesses say they didn't see that. >> as soon as the rifle shot, i feel that the -- the second gun then shot. they were shooting simultaneously. >> this could lead it more pressure for police chief greg suhr, who still is dealing with fallout from the december shooting of mario woods. new at noon, two more alleged victims have come forward in the case against an east bay dental assistant accused of child molestation. police say the girls are under

10. officers say an 8-year-old girl reported that alejandro saro touched her inappropriately during an appointment in concord. an investigation revealed he had several videos on his phone of other little girls, apparently each instance happening after the girls had taken nitrous oxide. work is starting early to remove a second truss on the bay bridge. jackie ward reports. >> reporter: it's a process that's very weather dependent. light rain won't affect plans very much, but high winds will, which is why caltrans crews are out there now instead of next week. there is a complicated and time- consuming project. it will last well into 2018. of that weekend it will be one step closer to being complete. the truss span is on the way down. >> i can't tell you how extensive an operation this is, whether we're, you know, in preparation for the next

project or if we're in the throes of one happening because they all connect to one another. >> reporter: this is a time lapse of when the first truss came down in february. it means 12 to 14 hour workdays for caltrans crews and no plan is permanent. mother nature dictates what can be done and when. that means looking out for wildlife that made the old bridge its home. it's nesting season for cormorants. >> our environmental team has not seen any cormorants that would halt this operation. but that as well as weather and safety is always a consideration. >> reporter: caltrans says it's on schedule and under budget. the next major step is bringing down piers 4 and 5. that's slated to happen this fall when there will be minimal environmental impact. both bike and foot traffic will be closed for some portion of the weekend while this removal process happens. but cars will still be allowed on the new bay bridge while the old bay bridge is being taken down. on treasure island, jackie

ward, kpix 5. a portion of the truss material will go to the oakland museum for an art project. the contractor will choose what happens with the rest. it may be scrapped, sold or recycled. new at noon, a smash-and- grab burglary caught on camera at a sunnyvale pizza shop. kpix 5's kiet do shows us the video and the unusual way the guys got inside. >> reporter: as smash-and-grabs go it's 30 seconds of brute force starting with rock through the front glass door of the pizza on tasman in sunnyvale and then watch as the thief plows through the shattered glass with his head. >> used his head. terrible. >> reporter: jumping the counter wasn't so easy. he struggles because his shorts have slipped down to his knees. this might be helpful to police since he touches the monitor with his bare hands but tries to wipe away the fingerprints. >> looks like he knows what he is doing. so he has some experience at this. >> reporter: they somehow know exactly where the safe was and head straight for it. our main crook carries out that

heavy safe by himself which had about $300. from the moment they stormed in to the exit was 28 seconds. the owner quit his job in high- tech and opened the restaurant about a year ago. he says margins are thin and it barely turns a profit. >> i definitely believe in karma how they would feel if they are in my shoes. >> reporter: sunnyvale police did come and dust the cash register for prints. they also took the rock as evidence and have surveillance video. the case is still under investigation and hopefully will catch these guys. in sunnyvale, kiet do, kpix 5. california state university made it official a couple of hours ago. a deal has been reached to prevent a faculty strike. csu and union officials reached a deal that includes a 10.5 salary increase for faculty at 23 campuses. there's one step left. union members still must ratify the deal. a. a lot of people are violating rules on renting homes in san francisco through

airbnb and similar websites. the rules limit such rentals to 90 days a year but the san francisco budget office says 26% of local homes listed on airbnb violate that policy. in addition, the report says most local airbnb hosts have not registered their properties as required. president obama will be in the bay area this afternoon for a couple of fundraisers. both will be in san francisco. the two events for the democratic national committee will be held at private homes. the democratic presidential contest turned into a war of words this week. but now both candidates are pulling back from the insults. cbs news correspondent marlie hall explains. >> reporter: bernie sanders walked back his comments that hillary clinton isn't qualified to be president. during an interview with charlie rose -- >> you're right. we should not get into "tit for tat." we should be debating the issues. all i'm saying is people are going to attack us if they are going to distort our records as has been the case time and time

county and san diego. two people are dead after a shooting at a u.s. military base in texas. the bodies were found this morning inside a room at joint base san antonio lackland. investigators believe it's a murder-suicide. but as a precaution, they are searching other parts of the building and nearby facilities. in washington state, the search continues for a violent ex-felon who escaped from a psychiatric hospital. investigators say anthony garver may be in the spokane area. he was charged with torturing and murdering a woman in 2013 but was later found not competent to stand trial. garver and another man escaped through a window from a hospital in lakewood on wednesday. the other man was recaptured. the state department confirms a u.s. citizen has been freed by syrian authorities. 33-year-old kevin patrick dodds is a freelance photographer from san diego. officials say dodds was abducted after traveling to syria in 2012. the "washington post" quoted fbi officials as saying he was

taken after crossing into syria from turkey. and paris police say they have arrested a key suspect in the november 13 terror attacks. the man was the last identified fugitive in the paris bombings and he is believed to have been the driver. abrini was arrested in belgium. officials also believe he is the man in the hat seen leaving the brussels airport after the explosions there. abrini was on europe's "most wanted" list. pope francis has just published a statement on family life in a groundbreaking church document called the joy of love. cbs' seth doane reports from rome. >> reporter: it's the pope's guide to love, sex and marriage. >> this is not a manual of answers to all of the great problems. it's, rather, an honest attempt to raise all the great questions that families are facing today. >> reporter: francis said, who

their behavior. a funeral today in daly city for army corporal robert graham. the bay area man disappeared in february 1951 during the korean war. chinese forces attacked his combat battalion in south korea. the prisoner of war's family never saw him again. today relatives who knew never the corporal said they are amazed by the support the family received after all this time. >> we sort of at the beginning thought it would be a small family gathering and sort of took us back a bit, um, all the people who came to surround us and to support us and to guide us, um, through all of this. and the media and the military have been amazing. >> relatives contributed dna that enabled the army to identify a single bone from graham's leg last fall. the bone was in a mixture of body parts of missing u.s. servicemen that north korea turned over in 1993.

also considering a bid. yahoo's stock has plunged in the past couple of years. activist shareholders starboard value has been pressuring yahoo and has launched a proxy fight to replace the board. let's take a live look from wall street as we close out the week. see how it's doing. the dow is up about 12 points. hopes are still alive for the golden state warriors to set the nba record for most wins in a season. in oakland last night, they notched win number 70 and the top seed in the west in a 112- 101 victory over the san antonio spurs. the warriors need to win all three remaining regular season games to beat the record long held by chicago. golden state will have home- court advantage in the play- offs and less than two hours from now a limited number of play-off tickets will go on sale to the public. starting at 2:00 single game tickets will be available. they will be for the first three home games of the opening round. the tickets will only be available online through the

warriors' website. and if you want to go, julie, you have to pay up. >> yeah. i'll gladly take free tickets. we are tracking rain today. lots of it. although in small amounts throughout today. scattered showers have been the story throughout the morning. a little drizzle along the coast. lock at hi-def doppler right now -- look at hi-def doppler right now. just a couple of scattered showers. we'll look at the north bay. novato seeing some light rain right now. napa a couple scattered showers. we have seen these stray showers popping up throughout the bay today. right now, temperatures outside. no, it's not dark. your eyes are not fooling you. temperatures right now hovering around the low 60s pretty much areawide. from the satellite perspective you can see what's going on here. so basically this low off baja is what's been bringing in the showers throughout the day. it's been slowly making its way north. as it does, really just spinning those waves of showers our way. we are going to tap into another area of low pressure offshore. that's going to help to bring a little more widespread rain to

the area. but for today, off and on scattered showers kind of gray damp, certainly cooler than what we saw earlier this week. futurecast shows however just in time for the evening commute, we do see some heavy downpours moving in. take a look at this cell. this is what is forecasted around 5:00 tonight. so keep that in mind as you head out for the friday evening commute. then scattered showers light rainfall everywhere else. as you make your way throughout the evening, rain friday night, saturday morning and sunday. we have the possibility of thunderstorms on saturday. this is futurecast over the next seven days. notice we could see some areas that see over an inch of rain over the next seven days. not all at once. not going to see any rainouts but we are going to see scattered showers off and on really for the next five to seven days and in total, it will add some nice totals to our rain bucket. in the meantime scattered showers the story this afternoon more widespread overnight and scattered showers

the right time? our pet expert dr. jill chase joins us with cody. cody has been talking the whole show. >> he is six months old so he is just getting ready to get neutered. with kittens they get about 6 months and male or female we will neuter them. unless they come from a shelter. this would apply to dogs also in that the shelters will neuter them when they come in at 8 weeks. so usually if you adopt an animal from there they have already been neutered. i put a graphic on. so you can see the difference. neutering is removal of the reproductive organs and in males it's removal of the testicles and in females it's removal of the ovaries and the uterus. >> i don't think cody likes this topic. >> no. really fun for me at work because men always cross their legs when we talk about it.
