this is kpix5 news. >> a massive magnitude 7.8 quake, rocks ecuador, and buck delling an overpass, the state of emergency as rescuers work to free the people. >> crews search for hours for to teens swept to sea in the bay area, now the search has been called off. good evening. >> the teenage boys were swimming near the shore at ocean beach in san francisco when they got caught in a dangerous rip current. emily turner is live at open beach where the search was suspended after dark. emily? >> reporter: juliette, that's never a good sign, now the boys have been out in the water almost seven hours, it's cold,

dark, and the coast guard says it doesn't look good for them. hope for the survival of two teens faded with the sun off ocean beach. they, and three of their friends were swept out to sea this afternoon, after 4:00 p.m. >> observed all five, locking arms, and walk out into the surf. and at that point, something happened with the water, with the waves, and they all became in distress. >> reporter: three teens could swim and made it back. the two others most likely will not be ok. >> if they were big, strong guys with wet suits, you know, we would, you know, maybe there's some hope there. but this is a difficult case. >> reporter: the coast guard and fire department suspended the operation after four hours searching for the boys by air and sea, the families forced to face the unbearable. this the is 12th rescue 24 year at ocean beach, they hope

it will serve as a warning of what mother nature can do. >> we've had a few around here lately, and it's because of the violent water and it's unfortunate, but folks come out here and they don't understand how violent and how difficult the conditions are out here. >> reporter: and that is exactly why the signs are out. they're not kidding when they say the people have died wading or swimming. they were just in waist deep water. when i say this was the 12th 12th search and rescue mission, this is just april. last year, it was 38. they hope people will be more careful, and warrant the signs. developing news in ecuador, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake his 6 hours ago, leaving at least 41 people dead. the quake was centered inermous on the central coast.

-- inermous on the central coast. you ecuador in decades. ecuador in decades. usgs says the quake is the strongest tohurt ecuador in decades. a roof also caved in at a mall, on the outskirts of the city, villages were left devastated. the pacific too nam warning -- tsunami warning said it was possible for some areas. at the same time, there's a race against the clock to finds survivors of twin earthquakes in japan. today, rescuers pulled a 93-year-old woman out from the rubble of her home. earlier this week, southern japan was hit first by a 6.24 shock, and then by a 7.0 quake barely 24 hours apart. combined death toll is 41. video shows a blurry skyline

as the camera spins out of control. more than 1500 people have been injured, dozens are missing. hundreds of thousands are still without electricity, and water in japan. now, to our big story here in the bay area, an uplifting one, the walsh jurors winning -- warriors winning in game one of the nba playoff, but the star player may not play in game two. the defending champions dominated and proved they are not letting up. steph curry will have to slow down, he rolled his ankle before the halftime, and had to sit out much of the rest of the game, steve kerr says the star point guard is "questionable" for game two. the fans left or california arena -- oracle beaming.

hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and he will be facing a long list of charges. police are investigating a deadly shooting, a man was the victim of a drive by off story road, it happened before 7:00 a.m. this evening, the suspected are still on the loose. foul odor leads to a disturbing discovery. a man found a body behind the pet spa. he said he smelled something strange and decided to check it out. he found remains in a storage building. >> he has been deceased for some time now. we called out the homicide detectives and csi team. we just consider it a suspicious death at this time. >> police say they don't yet know who the man is, or how he died. san francisco police have identified the officers involved in a deadly shooting of a homeless man in the mission district last week. sergeant nate saggerspg, and,

and mike malone fired off the bean bags. they say the suspect was running at them with the knife. officers malone was the first san francisco police officer to administer life saving medicine to a man overdosed. and police have arrested a woman who say they threatened a man with a switch blade that looked like a gun. she was booked for possession of the switch blade, stun gaap, meth and cocaine. investigators are trying to figure out what caused a fire that damaged two homes in the marina district. the house at 3627 scott street is padly damaged -- badly damaged from smoke and flames. the house next door was damaged as well. a tanker spill forced the shut down of a major intersection in newark. it hit a fire hydrant and cedar

security will be ramped up security will be ramped up at the boston marathon following the terror attacks in brussels and paris, it's been three years since bombings rocked the finish line, this year, 5000 officers will join the national guard, state police and dozens of federal agents along the route. there is no credible threat against the marathon, but security will be in full force until the last runner crosses the finish line. >> we're working with the fbi, to make sure we pay taken to who might be a threat, and so we have our eyes on certain people. >> 30,000 people will be running and an estimated 1 million spectators will be cheering them on. backs packs and drones have been banned. thousands of people took part in a run to remember the victims of the mass murder on the virginia tech campus.

32 people lost their limbs nine years ago. and -- lives nine years ago. a run has been held in their honor. one runner calls it a joyous celebration in honor of the people lost. more than 100 guns off the street now, voluntarily surrendered. san francisco police and united players held a gun buy-back events today. people were paid $100 for a handgun, two hundred dollars for assault weapons, and two assaults were turned in. >> sometimes there's just guns laying around, kids are shooting other kids, people breaking into houses and doing bad things, so we try to get them off the street. >> somebody else turned in a cross bar, the program started after the sandy hook shooting. a sporting goods retailer with more than 50 locations including some in the bay area is classing its doors.

sports chalet began to close all the stores and stopped selling merchandise online. the chain held going out of business sales. sports chalet has stories in pleasanton, san jose, and vacaville. people paid big bucks to seep the warriors, but no amount of money to get you in to see this. that's metallica playing in berkeley. the band was taking part in the record store day, just a select few won tickets to be inside, but many outside seemed happy just to listen. >> i saw metallica like 10, 12 times. >> and this would be the 13th? >> yes, 13th. >> jerry had plenty the company. people were contents to watch through the windows. the better way to watch was online. the band streamed the show live on the facebook page, and from what we could see, people around

the world were enjoying the show. we told you the up fortunate news at the top of the news -- the unfortunate news at the top of the newscast about the two teens swept to sea. just about an hour ago, the national weather service posted a beach hazard advisory because of a new set of swells for all coastal locations. seas 5-7 feet, and strong rip currents are a hazard, so be careful. it's also going to be a good beach day tomorrow, temperatures will be unusually warm, so no doubt, a lot of people will be out by the shoreline. highs today, santa rosa hit 82, the daytime, that, you can see texans rows, 80, oak -- santa sa rosa, 80. concord has 63. numbers are palm mike richards, but -- balmy, but clear skies. cherry blossom festival, 49th

49th in san francisco, wraps up tomorrow. marching from civic center into japan town, the grandpa raid, 79 -- the grand parade, 79. nice weather, too, expected for all the bay area. high pressure building in. so we have a warming friends the way. numbers will come up, another five degrees or so, taking readings into the upper 80s in some parts inland. tomorrow, sunny and warmer, the next chaps of rain we see -- chance of rain we see coming in around friday. might linger through saturday. we shall see! high pressure forecast looks well above average, 16 degrees above average in san francisco. concord, up to 83, san jose, 85, and oakland, 84. temperatures will be in the mid-80s, along the shoreline, readings will be in the, sorry, upper 70s, low 80s.

it's allergies! temperatures around the 680 corridor in the mid-80s, and the far east, around pittsburgh and antioch, numbers in the upper 80s. plenty of sun tomorrow, 86 in kenfield. stinson beach, that would be nice, 77. 82 for stanley, and then up around ukia, and 84 for windsor. we're going to look for the warmest day of the week to be tomorrow, with readings in the 80s, and tomorrow we cool it down into the low to mid-80s, but it begins to get cooler by wednesday, increasing clouds lead to chance of rain in the bay area on friday between now and then, looks warm, and plenty nice. there's a lot of sizzling abs in the sports department. what's happening with the warriors? the nba play offs are underway.
