of prince. family and friends are paying their respects to the music icon. >> reporter: a sea of purple guards prince's paisley park home and it's getting bigger by the day. the megasuperstar's friends and loved ones, including prince's girlfriend, gathered to mourn his death on saturday. >> she didn't tell me until we were two stop lights out there from getting here. i almost had a fit. >> reporter: prince rogers nelson was found dead wednesday morning. >> it's electrifying. you leave and you're like what did i just see? >> reporter: to help prince's fans get through this thing called life, some amc movie theaters are showing his iconic movie purple rain through the weekend. a hand written note left at a growing memorial says it all. you will be missed.

inside, fans danced through the night just like his song let's go crazy made them do and while the cause of the 57 year old's death is unknown, his fans plan to celebrate the musical genius' life and party like it's 1999. it could be weeks before we learn what led to the music superstar's sudden death. arrangements are being made for a funeral on monday. >> prince's record sales have soared. the record store in berkeley is restocking the singer's cd's, cassettes and albums because they have sold out. the prolific artist released his 39th and final album last december. as onlyar just mentioned, amc theaters across the country are bringing purple rain back to the big screen.

folks in l.a. lined up to relive a piece of rock history. >> reporter: prince's reign continues. it's doubtful it will reign supreme at the box office, but purpleel rain, the semiautobiographical movie is back. >> santa monica, looked for them there, wasn't there. came here, got them. >> reporter: one of 8 south land theaters showing purple rain. >> i tried other places and they were sold out. >> reporter: so becky came here to buy 5 tickets for the 7:35 p.m. showing. >> the call volume was too high so i said let's go. we're going to go find these tickets. >> reporter: she's buying tickets to a movie she already owns. >> i've had it on vhs. i have it on dvd.
