police are getting involved. and even our own da lin was nearly attacked. he joins us live from hitchcock road, really, in concord, da? >> reporter: ironic. the bee hive is back there. they chased two police officers and myself and a lot of neighbors out of that areas so we're keeping a safe distance for this live shot here. so far those bees have killed two dogs and stung a bunch of people. the bees are so relent less, i couldn't get out of the van. even with the windows close they are pounding at the window trying to get in the window. the bee is near the carport. they have taken over two blocks of hitchcock road attacking anything and anyone who is outside. even chased the police officer back into the cruiser. it's hard to even do an

interview. ah! sucker! got me right in the eye! >> probably 7, 8, 9, times, there's 10! >> reporter: the venom causes the skin to swell. aside from attacking people, those bees yesterday killed a bird and these two dogs. milo and gunnar. the vet tells me she stopped counting after she pulled out 50 stingers from each dog. a professional beekeeper believes these are africanized killer bees. >> if you ignore them, like me right now, they don't sting you. if you make some like very fast movement, like right now, so they start be more aggressive. [ buzzing ] >> oh, yeah. >> climbing up my hair, trying to get to my head. i'm like i don't know what to do. i'm running around screaming. >> reporter: several neighbors ran to help this mail carrier when a swarm of bees attacked her. >> i don't really like it. i got stung twice one behind the ear and one on the top of the head. >> reporter: here are two

samples right here. they look like regular honeybees. but, of course, these are no regular bees. they're much more aggressive. they attack people. and right now, beekeepers are waiting for the bees to fly back to their colony at night and that's when they will return at night to get rid of these bees tonight. brian, i can tell you 14 years of reporting, never encountered anything like this. >> da, how long has the problem been going on? >> apparently, neighbors started noticing yesterday. not sure why all of a sudden it's popping up but the bee hive is somewhere back there at that house. >> don't they have animal control officers in concord that know how to deal with this kind of thing? >> reporter: well, not really. the two officers that came out like said, they got chased back into their cruisers. i don't blame them because how do you train to deal with killer bees that are attacking you? so pretty much beekeepers are handling this. >> i can imagine. how did you manage not to get stung when you were

interviewing that guy? >> reporter: i just kind of stayed back and like that beekeeper was telling me just stand like a monument and just don't move. that's the only way. and a lot of the shots including that one interview was shot from inside my van because i just couldn't handle it. [ laughter ] >> i don't blame you. >> reporter: first time i had to shute an interview from the van -- shoot an interview from the van. >> thank you. it wasn't bee stings but did you feel it? a small earthquake shook the gilroy area earlier this afternoon. the 3.0 quake was centered on the calaveras fault and struck just after 12:30. no reports of damage or injuries. a driver hit a person in a wheelchair in morgan hill and took off around 7 a.m. this morning near monterey road and tennant avenue. the victim wasn't badly hurt. the driver took off in a black suv. chp is investigating a deadly crash on 880 in oakland. one person was killed and two others were hurt in the early- morning wreck. we are told one car was stopped

in a southbound lane when the other slammed into it. no word on whether speed or alcohol played a part. a traffic alert for the east bay. a stretch of interstate 80 in san pablo will be closed overnight while caltrans works on a new interchange. it will be shut down from san pablo to barrett in both directions from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. in san francisco workers have finished repairing the sinkhole that almost swallowed an suv. the 12 by 5-foot chasm opened up on tuesday when a 140-year- old sewer line gave way. crews have been working for days to repair the 36" line and patch the road. the intersection is back to normal tonight. the bay area's favorite freak show wrapped in a road race is about 14 hours away. tomorrow is "bay to breakers." kpix 5's cate caugiran is live at the starting line where the city is getting ready. >> reporter: we're at howard

and main. the starting line for tomorrow's race. we know that race officials are doing everything right now to get ready. you can see these metal fences behind me ready to go up. earlier today, at pier 35, we caught up with racers picking up their bibs. some people doing last-minute registration for the race. this is the 105th year for the event that starts at the san francisco bay and ends over at ocean beach by the breakers. and those who live here know that "bay to breakers" is equal parts race and street party. so if you are new to the event, it looks like halloween in may. you'll see people in costumes and some people who run without clothes. either way what this means if you are in the city tomorrow it means several road closures so it's going to be very difficult for people to get around. and as always, with the case of "bay to breakers," you're either immersed in it or trying to avoid it. live in san francisco, cate caugiran, kpix 5. >> from one party to another. a dramatic unveiling today of the new and improved san francisco museum of modern art.

the sky was raining red confetti as the doors opened to the public to celebrate 170,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor gallery space that's been under construction for three years. balloons and horns were part of the neighborhood celebration to welcome visitors today. museum officials hope the gallery will keep them coming back. >> this represents our city's values, something that i know of, certainly have inherited the responsibilities to keep alive and keep it working for everyone. >> the opening of this building san francisco moma has made a commitment to children so that they as john adams would have loved to hear can have access to see and be exposed to art. >> about 5,000 tickets were given for the festivities. you can buy tickets online for tomorrow through the rest of

the summer. facebook's coo sheryl sandberg had a bittersweet message for cal's class of 2016 today. be resilient, even when life seems unfair. mark kelly shows us when her commencement address was done there wasn't a dry eye in the stadium. >> i'm not going to tell you today what i learned in life. today i'm going to try to tell you what i learned in death. >> reporter: to a hushed stadium of thousands, sheryl sandberg for the first time opened up about her husband's sudden death last may. >> i never knew i could cry so often for so much. >> reporter: 47-year-old david goldberg died suddenly from cardiac arrhythmia while they were on vacation in mexico. today, sandberg shared with the cal graduates what these past 12 months without her husband have taught her. >> i learned about the depths of sadness and the brutality of loss. but i also learned that when life sucks you under, you can

yahoo. sources close to the sale tell reuters that an investing group backed by the billionaire is among the bidders for the struggling tech giant's core internet business. it could sell from 5 to $8 billion. meanwhile state lawmakers are trying to bring a bit more tesla tourism to california. senator bob la could you ski of fremont wants to wave the state sales tax on electric car if you come from out of state to pick it up. it would apply to all-electric cars as long as they are registered in another state within 30 days. lyft is about to give its california drivers a boost. they have agreed to a $27 million settlement in a class action case. california drivers sued the company claimed it misclassified them as independent contractors rather than employees. as contractors, they aren't reimbursed for gas and vehicle maintenance. under the agreement, drivers who use the lyft app are still independent contractors. but they will be paid a lump

searching for a man -- armed with a gun.. and possibly explosive breaking news in sacramento. police and s.w.a.t. teams are searching for a man armed with a gun and possibly explosives. they have a neighborhood in the oak park area blocked off right now. it all started when officers responded to a call about a man

with a gun. >> when officers arrived on scene they located the man that was described and he pointed the firearm at the officers. and then actually, um, m-80 or pipe bomb threw it at the officers which exploded. >> police think they have him cornered in a home. no word on his motive. a hot air balloon ride ended before it nearly began for two dozen people in davis. they were being loaded into the basket at the yolo county airport this morning when a gust of wind started dragging them. luckily they never made it off the ground. the balloon and the basket went 100 yards before it was controlled. one woman went to the hospital with minor injuries. california skydiver who walked away from this wreck in a lodi vineyard says he is amazed it wasn't worse. the cessna was about 1,000 feet up thursday when something went wrong were the engine. as the pilot tried to return to the airport the plane clipped a

truck and flipped over. everyone on board was fine. >> i guess my [ heavy accent ] >> i realized everybody was out was like, okay, how this happen like nothing really happens nothing really bad happens to us and we're really okay? i was like wow! >> the worst injury a bloody nose. in fact, after the crash many of the passengers actually got on another plane to make the jump. a family of four was rescued yesterday afternoon near the pittsburg marina. it took half-hour to rescue everybody. the water was so cold, three were checked out for signs of hypothermia after a boating accident. a special birthday for four bay area children. they are quadruplets entering double digits together. kpix 5's anne makovec has the sweet celebration. >> i thought it was a very good gift. so -- >> reporter: it's been 10 years since the allen quadruplets entered this day on mother's day 2006.

over the city of san francisco and then pushed offshore so cool start for the "bay to breakers" tomorrow but pleasant. temperatures don't change too much between today and tomorrow. drizzle out there at the higher elevations. tomorrow morning a different look at the same futurecast. a few patchy low clouds tomorrow especially in the south bay and then we'll get sunshine breaking out all over the place tomorrow. so tomorrow not unlike today patchy low clouds, early tomorrow. then another mild day for sunday. nice and mild with a warming trend beginning and it will take us up into the mid-80s by wednesday. then we'll go the other direction and cool it down as we head toward the weekend but it will warm up a little bit monday, tuesday, wednesday. good day tomorrow for the 2016 "bay to breakers" which i ran once when i went to gavilan college lowe these many years ago. what a trip that was man, for a trip to hollister for a kid from san francisco. oh, my god! travel weather forecast as we head out of the bay area to

hundreds maybe thousands. they are called ghost guns. many have wound up in the hands of criminals. only on "5", the feds tell us many of those weapons are traced to one shop in northern california and a man known as dr. death. >> hit metal again, you pull it, pierce a hole. >> reporter: he calls himself dr. death seen here in his shop coaching a customer through the steps to make an untraceable rifle. >> too fast for you? tell me to start over. >> all right, koo school we let it load on this large peg. >> reporter: his shop in sacramento was so busy customers were sometimes lined up at the door according to the agent who secretly filmed himself making four rifles. >> are you building a personal army or what? >> absolutely. [ laughter ] >> isn't that what we're here for? come on. >> reporter: the law allows a hobbyist to make and own unregistered firearms but not to sell the guns. dr. death was advertising his shop as a place where people could make a gun in 20 minutes

by pressing a few buttons on a computerized machine with plenty of help from dr. death who atf agents say is a felon who cannot legally pass a background check to buy a gun. >> he did create sort of a -- a fiction of them being the manufacturer. >> reporter: grim barlow is in charge of the atf's sacramento office. he says with cash payments, no questions asked, no background check, no serial number and no registration, the guns that left has machine shop vanished from the legal record. agents say they have no way of knowing how many dr. death sold but believe it was hundreds at a minimum. these people that were making the gums are collectors, criminals? >> it's hard to know since there's no background checks done. nobody knows. >> reporter: a ghost gun in the hands of bank robbers fired round after round out the window of the getaway car pursued by police in stockton two years ago. one woman hostage died in the

shootout as did the felon who got a ghost gun, an ak-47, he couldn't legally purchase. this is an ar-15 ghost gun made into a machine gun. it was purchased by an undercover agent. the seller a convicted felon and gang member. in recent months, atf has seized hundreds of ghost guns and silencers, made in other machine shops in the sacramento area and arrested 8 men. in april, dr. death entered a guilty plea to unlawfully manufacturing and dealing in firearms. he will be sentenced in june. a bill now working its way through the state senate would require all ghost guns to be registered with a state serial number. governor brown vetoed a similar bill in 2014. now, the full senate vote on that bill is not expected until

next month. now to campaign 2016. one thing donald trump won't talk about his tax returns. brook silva-braga reports there's also a lot of interest tonight in a mysterious spokesman who may have been the billionaire businessman himself. >> reporter: donald trump says he is still not ready to release his tax returns. >> what is your tax rate? yo it's none of your business. you will see it when i release. you'll see it when i release. >> reporter: the presumptive nominee says he is waiting for the completion of an audit. hillary clinton released a new online ad attack ing trump. >> maybe i'll do it when obama does his birth certificate. >> if i decide to run for office i'll produce my tax returns absolutely. >> reporter: every presidential nominee since 1976 has released their returns but trump insisted friday they wouldn't show much saying he pays as low a rate as possible but doesn't use offshore tax payments. trump also faced questions about this 1991 "people" magazine interview with his supposed spokesman john miller, who sounds a lot like trump himself. the "washington post" published this audio.

security cameras on the carnival liberty captured 33- year-old samantha broberg of texas falling overboard yesterday morning. her family was not with her on the trip. she was traveling with friends on the four-day cruise to mexico. >> oh, my god! oh, my god! >> a scary ride to the prom for some teens in massachusetts when their limo suddenly burst into flames. the group was headed to the dance when flames started shooting out of the passenger seat. everyone got out safely. but they say it was intense. >> it started to get big like it it was going to explode. >> the limo driver tried to fight the fire but lost his hat in the battle. he is okay. and the teens didn't miss out on their prom. another group of students were passing by at the time and gave them a ride. >> boy, the prom night to remember. and from the only in florida file, a driver in the orlando area got the shock of her life when a live turtle came crashing through her car windshield! nicole says she was driving down the interstate when a car in front of her hit the turtle
