live from the cbs bay area studios, this is kpix 5. shooting investigation underway nearby a hospital in san leandro. joe vazquez is live at the scene. >> reporter: yellow tape for blocks around the crime scene as police investigate a shooting that happened this evening. the shots rang out next to san leandro hospital at bay fair rentals where a body lies undera tarp. >> loud. 8 rounds. >> reporter: she was visiting when the shooting broke out. >> people rur 1ing.

-- were running. >> reporter: she saw six people take off. a crowd of young people who were running for their lives. there appears to be a body under a tarp but authorities are not confirming the condition of the victim. the public information officer is still gathering information. reporting live in san leandro, joe vazquez, kpix 5. more breaking news. a fire in san jose. an eyewitness shot this video of the blaze that started in an auto shop. firefighters had to fight it from the outside because there was a threat the building could collapse. crews saved an apartment building. a resident describes the panic of trying to get out safely. >> my brother knock on my door. he was the first one who saw it. he called 911 and he let me know. i grabbed the extinguisher it

was a blaze. so i knocked on everybody's door. >> no word on injuries. -- for more cameras. an a string of shootings the police and mayor have looking into more cameras. kpix 5's joe vazquez tells us more. >> reporter: in a year six shootings on highway 4 within the pittsburg city limits. that includes the murder last week of a pregnant woman and now they are calling for a plan to install freeway cameras. the plan is to put on cameras on the property next to the freeway. there are 100 or so cameras throughout pittsburg. on friday the mayor told kpix 5 it is time to expand the program.

>> money has been wasted for other stuff. that is something that is worth wild. >> everywhere you look there is cameras. more and more cameras. they have people -- they identify them. they don't incarcerate them. what good will it do? >> they will keep us safe but it is unfortunate that we have to go to that. that extreme. >> reporter: the camera proposal is expected to be a topic of discussion at tomorrow night's city council meeting. joe vazquez, kpix 5. a gunman is on the loose after a homicide. someone reported gunfire before 2:00 a.m. in the morning. deputies say the 26-year-old victim turned up later at the hospital where he died. police in santa rosa are looking for the vandals behind a window smashing spree. they broke windows on five cars over night. police think they used large rocks as their weapon. rk kelly -- on

what it took to solve a sca situation. now to the aggressive bees that attacked a neighborhood over the weekend. they killed two people and sent two people to the hospital. mark kelly with more on the sting operation. >> reporter: looked like a ghost town sunday. >> it is quieter out here. >> reporter: but there is one noise that won't go away, the buzz of killer bees. >> i will be like oh, my god, are they going to attack me now. >> reporter: two hives behind this house. the homeowner tells me when they were removed friday the bees, more aggressive than your honey bee got stirred up and we saw it for ourselves. >> sucker. got me in the eye. >> climbing up my hair. trying toget to my head. i am, like, i don't know what to do. >> reporter: his son, a bee keeper, killed most of the exotic bees over night using soap and water that melts their

conservative topics. facebook has found no evidence to back up the claims. starting this week, calaveras county will lay out new ground rules for marijuana growers. they have been scooping up land to cash in on the marijuana boom. now they will have to pay a $5,000 registration fee to apply for a state license. a moratorium on mew farms will go into effect till they work on permanent regulation. a town where the drinking water is so contaminated residents haven't been able to drink it for decades. you may have drunk it yourself. part 2 of the investigation. >> reporter: water that is laced with arsenic, and it is a naturally occurring element but it is linked to cancer.

if you have driven to los angeles there is a chance you had a taste of it. >> reporter: one of the busiest strip malls along i-5. hundreds stop for a bite to eat and drink. but the next time you press that soda tap there is something you may want to know. the water is contaminated with arsenic at levels above the federal limit. local residents get drinking water delivered every two weeks. >> i think people have become immune to the fact that our water quality is so poor that you can't drink it. >> reporter: fast food restaurants use tap water to prepare food and tap it into the soda fountains.

we took samples and brought them to be tested at a lab in san jose. all came back well above the epa limit for arsenic. carl's, jr. contained 16 parts per billion. taco bell 15. >> what we can do -- >> reporter: we took the results to an expert at university of california at berkeley. he has been studying the effects of long term exposure in chile where levels are higher than what we found. >> 4 to 5 fold increase in lung cancer. 11 fold increase in kidney cancer. if you exstrapilate down to the estimated risk, that is fairly high. stopping once or twice -- >> your risk may not be zero

but it will be close enough. >> reporter: you may want to think twice before making a habit out of it. especially if you are pregnant or have kids. he takes that advice a step further. >> if that is a problem that persists in those chains you need tell people. people may depend on those restaurants for a lot of their diet. >> reporter: county health inspectors should be checking arsenic levels, something we confirmed is not happening. >> if you have a problem that is more than once or twice at a restaurant and your arsenic persists you should have to put up a fine. >> reporter: as for people who use the water every day to cook and shower it could be much more serious. >> like cigarette smoking.

and wouldn't let go. it was a nearly 2- florida woman is recovering after a small shark clamped down on her arm and didn't let go today. a 2-foot long nurse shark. ding on. witnesses say the 23-year-old woman calmly walked out of the water with the shark dangling from her arm. after the shark died it didn't let go.

it happened at a local jiffy lube. carl brewer took his trip for car maintenance turned into a headache at a jiffy loob. he heard a technician saying all the wheels fell off during a test drive. that lead to a non-injury accident. it could have been worse if he had his daughter inside the car at the time. >> i pick her up after work as well so if it would have failed like a couple hours later that could have been a possibility. >> it is not clear what caused the wheels to come off and jiffy loop is inspecting the damage. he says the company did agree to pay for a rental car. we will be right back. ,,,,,,
