good afternoon, i'm kenny choi. >> i'm michelle griego. kpix 5's jackie ward joins us live from vallejo where pearl's sister is speaking for the first time since the suspect was killed. >> reporter: michelle, her sister's name is rose and rose broke down in tears to us about all that's happened in the past couple of days. this is where pearl was last seen and where friends and family have set up a display of hope. it's the pedestrian bridge that crosses over 780. it has a lot of flowers, cards and messages of faith and love. we spoke to pearl's older sister rose this morning. she says her sister is a fighter and she is pleading with her to stay strong and send clues about where she is if at all possible. rose says she is glad fernando castro, the man police are calling pearl's kidnapper, is dead. but at the same time, it's frustrating. >> it's upsetting that fernando was killed because he is the one with our answers to our

questions. he's the one [ indiscernible ] who knows where she is at, where she could have been left at and he -- he knows every, single thing. >> reporter: this is video of the events leading up to his death yesterday. you can see him in the gold car without pearl as he is leading officers on a chase in solvang. officers said he shot at them and they shot back and ultimately, killing him. pearl's sister rose tells us that the search efforts will resume at 2:00 this afternoon right from this pedestrian bridge in vallejo. and the vallejo county sheriff's office is expected to brief the media this afternoon on any updates they may have. in vallejo, jackie ward, kpix 5. novato police are looking for a third high school student suspected in a violent attack that left one classmate dead and another seriously injured. two teens were arrested during raids yesterday for wednesday night's attract near fairway drive. investigators say the three suspects and both victims went to novato high school.

the school has been closed since yesterday. classes resume on tuesday. the family of kate steinle now filing a federal lawsuit over her death on a san francisco pier. the complaint targets the bureau of land management, i.c.e. and sheriff ross mirkarimi. the family wants them to be accountable for providing the means and opportunity for repeat drug felon to secure a gun and kill kate. the gun was allegedly taken from a blm agent's car that was not secured. attorneys for the steinles say, the family hopes that their actions today will serve to highlight the lax enforcement of gun safety regulations among the law enforcement agencies involved and bureaucratic confusion so that this won't happen to others. an alameda firefighter was hurt putting out a house fire. firefighters arrived to the home on fountain street with flames through the roof around

12:30 a.m. one woman escaped in time. crews put out the fire in 30 minutes. they say that they had trouble knocking down the flames from inside the house. >> there were access issues and heavy fire load in the house so crews had a hard time getting in. >> the firefighter is expected to be okay. the cause of the fire is now under investigation. now to campaign 2016 after stops in san jose and san francisco yesterday, hillary clinton continues her campaign swing in the bay area. today she met with members of the oakland community at an eatery. oakland mayor libby schaaf joined the democratic presidential front-runner at the home of chicken and waffles this morning. today's event focused on successful programs that increase opportunities in the city. >> um, i want to be a champion for oakland and all the oaklands of america, places that have challenges like any part of our country and any kind of human endeavour, but

places that are coming together. >> all the candidates are campaigning in california today ahead of the june 7 primary. democratic presidential candidate bernie sanders is in southern california as he seeks to upset clinton. yesterday, he fired up a crowd of more than 8,000 supporters in ventura county and called california the most important primary in the nominating process. the latest poll shows sanders close to clinton in california by 2 points. in fresno police beefed up security today ahead of a rally for donald trump the presumptive republican nominee this after a similar event in other cities led to violence and arrests by protestors. trump is also in san diego today. protests are expected at both events. memorial day weekend brings travel headaches that are never easy. this year long tsa lines will mean more wait times. kiet do has more on the massive crowds that are expected at airports this weekend. >> reporter: and just outside terminal b here at mineta

international airport, we have seen a steady stream of passengers show up all morning and afternoon long just to hurry up and wait inside the security lines there as you can see crawling along. if you are traveling anytime soon, this weekend or this summer, keep this in mind. number of tsa agents went down by 10% in the last three years but the number of flyers in that same period went up 15%. this weekend that number will go up which means get to the airport as soon as you can. wait times are skyrocketing at many airports because there aren't enough screeners to keep up with the number of passengers. the agency is under fire for hiring part-time workers. morale is low as employees leave for other full-time jobs with better benefits and conditions. the workers left behind are missing their breaks, working mandatory overtime, vacation days canceled and they are among the lowest paid federal employees making on average $35,000 a year. the u.s. travel association says it's becoming a national crisis. >> as our peak travel season

started, we started experiencing a total breakdown. passenger wait times were consistently 60 minutes or more. airline passengers have report wait times as high as 120 minutes with thousands of passengers missing their flights. >> reporter: aaa says 4.6 million californians will travel 50 miles or more this weekend many of them by car, that is up 2.5% over last year. and congress has appropriated $34 million to hire another 800 tsa workers across the country to get us through the summer travel crunch. after that, they will try to find a long-term solution. kiet do, kpix 5. bart riders will have to rely on a bus bridge between the san leandro and bay fair stations from midnight tonight to 4 a.m. tuesday. that's so that crews can finish work on the tracks. the work will mainly be on the elevated structures and once finished, the project should make the ride safer and more quiet. the visitors center at

lovers... every friday., we'll take your questions at your favorite animal. this we ting your all you pet lovers every friday we take your questions about your favorite animal and this week's topic, protecting your pet from fleas. a very important topic. dr. jill chase joins us now along with one of your patients, sequel. >> reporter: right now fleas are a big problem. i can't tell you how many phone calls i have gotten about it. it's absolutely fleas. we have had very dry environment the last 3 1/2 years. >> so the weather plays a part in that? >> it does. usually we get this very cold snap and they go. they tend to go dormant. they just have not. so they have been basically multiplying exponentially. the biggest piece of information is they live in the environment. that's where they spend most of their time. they spend very little time on the pet. so using the topical products while it's helpful to kill them off, if you want to do a good job you need to treat the environment. i wanted to show on sequel, she is a good example, they have a

little bit of a problem at their house, not bad. she has been chewing a little. there's less fur, probably hard to see, but that's just because she can only reach from here back. she can't reach this area up here to chew on herself. >> is it painful? >> so it's like getting bit by mosquitos, so it's really itchy and so people will sometimes say, well i'm using a topical product or i'm giving them something oral but they are still itch u. they are still getting bit. so doing the environment, if you want to save a trip to the veterinarian, that's the way to go. >> so the best way to protect your pet? >> treat the environment and if you can't, definitely use the topical or the oral or you have a dog with an allergy to fleas you will have to use both and still do the environment. >> where did the owner get the name sequel. >> the owners actually have been amazing with their -- i have taken care of several generations of their dachshunds. one of the owners worked with word so their first dog was sin
