businesses... and forcing dozens of people out of the homes. and the fight isn't over. kpix 5's emily turner is lin san francisco's mission district... em a five alarm fire burns out of control, destroying several businesses and forcing dozens of people out of their homes and the fight is not over yet. >> emily turner is in the mission district. emily? >> it has been a long day for firefighters, this fire is contained but it is not near control. and i will show you what is happening right now behind me, it is clearly very - - very active. it does not show signs of stopping. >> long after the sunset, it is still lit up as bright as day,

a fire that started at 2:30 burned out of control for over four hours, forcing 150 firefighters to tackle the flames from outside. >> heavy smoke, heavy heat conditions. >> it appears that 550 that - - was going to be compromised. >> six buildings burned. tonight 40 people are without a home and without hope of finding an affordable alternative. >> or we can do righnow is provide them with comfort and a safe place to be. to the red cross set up shelter for anyone who needs help. most of the victims are hispanic and like this eighty- five-year-old woman 85-year-old woman and her family, they lost everything. one thing they do have is their health.

a few cases of smoke inhalation, firefighters continue to work nights. >> we are going to spend a lot of time making sure every number is extremist. >> the recent they are outside and not inside of the building is that it is still too dangerous. investigators are trying to go inside just to get a look around and figure out what the cause of that the fire was and how it started. and they are coming back tomorrow morning to try to clear it out. hopefully there will be more answers. emily turner, kpix five. >> one of the businesses affected his coal hardware. they said thank you for your thoughts, everyone is safe. the building is a loss, will keep everyone posted. witnesses about cameras and phones to get pictures of the fire.

you can see black smoke pouring out of the building at another business got a rooftop shot of the flame. on twitter, amy god a shot on the streets of cruise battling the fire, and in the picture you can see the black smoke rising up over the park. at this point firefighters say there is no known connection. >> note to oakland, the police department is reeling from multiple scandals. members of the community have had enough. >> reporter: i am i am here to run paperless department, the mayor said she's clearly frustrated w? capital about w? p1 capital about him? he was doing those? who i am in the i have friends from chicago saying what is going on?

acres. it is now 45% contained. strong wind and high temperatures have made it tough on fire crews, 270 homes and ranches are at risk. nearby campgrounds campground and canyons are under mandatory evacuations. >> adrian tennessee has conducted a former vanderbilt university football player of rape. jurors deliberated for about four hours later today and they found that he encouraged eight 10 a - - a teammate to rape an unconscious woman. the 23-year-old violated a female student by giving her alcohol and then encouraging inmates to sexually assault her. he now faces a minimum of 15 years in prison. in contrast, boxer recently got a sentence of six months for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman. and the case has provoked national debate about sexual

assault and whether or not student athletes get special treatment. >> a fifty-one-year-old man has been shows with child sex abuse after neighbors tipped off police that he was holding 12 girls in his home. police found the girls ranging in age from six months up to 18 years old in the house. officers think he started abusing the oldest when she was 14 years old and fathered two of her children. both - - that girl's michael's parents have also been charged. city couple gifted her for helping them with money. all three adults are being held on bond. the girls are now in child protective custody. >> police bought back guns today with no questions asked. the goal to get working firearms off of the streets. anyone who lives here can take advantage of the buyback at pittsburgh city hall, and it was on anonymous. people received target gift
