tracks near hayward yard. r now -- the investigation in a deadly plane crash right on b.a.r.t.'s tracks. now the investigation in to what went wrong. good evening to you. i'm juliette goodrich. >> i'm brian hackney. the plane went down just before noon today along sandoval way. the crash causing delays across the east bay. kpix 5's devin fehely is near the scene with the new developments. >> the pilot gives a window in to the harrowing final moments before that crash in which the pilot was desperately looking for a place to safely land this plane. he'd not survive the crash. but he also managed to spare anyone on the ground. >> reporter: the plane's pilot

radioed for help moments before the crash, telling air traffic controllers he was having trouble keeping the plane in the air. >> plane came right over us. we noticed he was very low. >> reporter: moments later sarah smith said the plane nose dived, crashing near the train tracks where it burst instantly in to flames. >> we saw the smoke so we called 911, let them know where we were at. >> it was a big explosion. then smoke coming out. >> reporter: witnesses say the pilot was trapped inside the burning wreckage of the plane and tragically would not make it out alive. federal investigators are trying to figure out exactly what went wrong. witnesses say the plane appeared to be having mechanical problems. >> it was a two-engine plane and i know at least one of them was not working. >> reporter: the crash forced b.a.r.t. to shut down service in the area for several hours while they inspected the tracks. trains were rolling once again by midafternoon. as we mentioned, the trains were rolling about 2:30 this

afternoon which was just in time to help people leaving the as game go home and people going to the warriors game this evening make it to their destination. devin fehely, kpix 5. some business owners on mission street are returning to the site of yesterday's five-alarm fire. the flames damaged several buildings at 29th and mission. mark kelly is there for us. >> investigators have been out here all day, trying to figure out what caused this fire. one sign that things are slowly starting to get back to normal, officers just pushed back those barricades there opening up this southbound lane. still the folks that live and work in these buildings are asking the question when are they going to get back inside? >> reporter: 24 hours after this enormous blaze consumed five buildings in the outer mission, owners returned to see what's left of their businesses. cornitas was one of the few spared. >> everything is fine. we are one of the lucky ones. >> you have to be so relieved.

>> i'm lucky. i'm concerned for other people. my neighbors. i'm very sorry for them. >> reporter: neighbors like the sanchez family. they have run the playa azul restaurant for two decades. firefighters tell them it's too dangerous for them to even step a foot inside. >> really sad. we don't know what's going to happen. >> for 20 years, my whole life. it's very important for me. >> reporter: the fire broke out 2:30 yesterday afternoon and quickly grew to a five-alarm, consuming the neighborhood and taking 150 firefighters to try to stamp it out. >> do we have any idea of a cause? >> no, it's still under investigation right now. it was somewhere back there in the middle. that's all i know right now. >> reporter: unbelievably, every person made it out of the fire alive with two people treated for smoke inhalation and an infant who suffered breathing problems. unfortunately lauren delong wasn't home when the fire started so she's desperately

looking for her tabby cat named turkey. >> if you throw bottle caps, she'll come out because she likes catching them. she likes cheese. be on the lookout. >> reporter: she's also one of at least 58 fire victims not sure when or if they will be allowed back in to their homes any time soon. >> for those without friends and family to stay with, the red cross and salvation army have set up a shelter a few blocks away from here in the mission. and the hardware store was damaged in the fire. coming up at 6:00, i ask one of the staffer who works there if they have any plans to open back up after this blaze. that's all coming up at 6:00. mark kelly, kpix 5. this one a freeway fire that started this afternoon in fremont. it's now under control. chopper 5 captured the smoky sky above highway 880 near the paseo padre parkway. no word yet on the cause or if

early this morning. police say the 27-year-old of his car in hollywood actor anton yelchin was killed in a freak accident earlier this morning. the 27-year-old star had stepped out of his car in the driveway of his studio city home. the car slid backwards and pinned him against a brick pillar and a security fence. friends found his body after he didn't show up for rehearsal. yelchin played the character chekhov in recent star trek movies. a gunman killed 49 people inside an orlando nightclub. new information on the investigation is now being revealed. >> reporter: chirp bells rang

in downtown orlando. exactly one week after a gunman went on a rampage in a gay nightclub and killed 49 people. madeline worked with luis at universal studios. like many she went to church to find peace. several services included a moment of silence. >> it's so important to forget about that hate that's out there even if it's for a little while. >> the community is setting up for a fundraiser and candlelight vigil sunday evening. tens of thousands are expected to march through this popular orlando park, coming together not only to grieve, but to demand action. >> we need a background check on every gun sale in america. that's not happening. >> reporter: as the gun control debate continues, u.s. attorney general loretta lynch is intensifying the investigation. >> tomorrow we will be releasing a partial transcript of the killer's conversations from

within the nightclub with the orlando negotiators. >> reporter: lynch plans to meet with survivors and investigators in orlando tuesday, a city that clearly needs more time to heal. weijia jiang, cbs news, orlando, florida. attorney general loretta lynch said one key goal of the investigation is to figure out why the gunman targeted the gay community. as for the gunman's wife, no charges yet even though she admitted knowing he would launch an attack. donald trump made comments on the phone this morning during cbs' face the nation. >> i think profiling is something we're going to have to start thinking about as a country and other countries do it. you look at israel and you look at others, they do it. they do it successfully. i hate the concept of profiling. but we have to start using common sense and we have to use our heads. >> trump says it's a matter of choosing common sense over political correctness.

in sacramento, hundreds of people protested outside the church of the pastor who praised the orlando nightclub shooter. last week during his sermon pastor roger jimenez said he supported the attack and today he seemed to welcome the attention. >> we had a record breaking attendance here this morning. and i just want to thank the media for all the free publicity. >> protesters are calling for the removal of the church's tax exempt status. oakland firefighters tackled a three-alarm fire near frick middle school. it started after 11:00 last night. it took firefighters about four hours to contain those flames. there weren't any injuries. investigators are trying to figure out what started the fire. scorching heat and gusty winds are fueling a raging wildfire in santa barbara county. the sherpa fire has burned more than 7800 acres since tuesday. a red flag warning is in effect

vacation to yosemite nation park. president obama and his family have wrapped up their vacation to yosemite national park. the president, his wife, and two daughters did what we all do. went for a little bit of a hike. then they did what we never get to do. left on air force one a couple hours ago and headed back to washington. before they left, the first lady sent out this photo of the family in yosemite. it had the message happy father's day. amtrak is expanding its train service between the bay area and central valley.

beginning tomorrow, an additional roundtrip train will run from oakland's jack london square to bakersfield. amtrak officials say the extra service on the san joaquin train will help ease the bay area roadway's congestion while offering additional options for commuters. in san francisco, trapped and injured critters often have no place to go. but one woman is taking the matter in to her own hands. mike sugerman shows us how she's created a safe haven for animals. >> reporter: most people see a skunk in their backyard. they do whatever they can to get rid of it. jamie ray sees one and says, come to momma. >> wild animals are amazing to me. they have such a hard time existing amongst us. so i have a soft spot in my heart. >> reporter: skunks, possums, raccoons, squirrels. the city has no facility for them, so jamie ray takes them in to her home. backyard, more specifically. >> sadly san francisco is one of

the only counties in the bay area that doesn't have a proper wildlife care facility. >> reporter: she runs sf romp, which stands for the rescue of orphan mammals. >> most people would get a little nervous being this close to skunks. am i going to get sprayed? >> skunks are very gentle. you leave them alone, they'll leave you alone. >> reporter: that's good advice because when they get old enough, she'll be releasing them back to the city. that's the law with all wildlife. if they're trapped, they're not supposed to be killed or released anywhere else. >> it's kind of amazing to have an up-close and personal experience with wildlife. >> reporter: even if it's with squirrels, which is why lila travis is a squirrel foster mom. several young and injured ones share her backyard with a couple chickens. >> there are very few people that see them other than tree rats. they see them in that type of light and my passion is to try

to change that idea. >> she finds them fascinating and rather cute. every san francisco neighborhood has wildlife, whether humans like it or not. these volunteers see themselves as the animals' advocates in a city that is not always welcoming. you might see them as pests. they see them as neighbors. mike sugerman, kpix 5. >> it was nice and sunny out there today as it was for much of the bay area. we've got a few high clouds floating overhead right now. in general temperatures were 5 to 10 degrees higher. mid 70s in san francisco as we look toward the golden gate bridge. concord, 90 degrees. oakland, 64. san jose, 84 degrees. santa rosa at 86. so a warm sunday. warm father's day away from the bay area. overnight tonight, temperatures will sink in to the mid 50s for the most part and sun up tomorrow morning on monday at 13 minutes before 6 a.m.

here's how it looks. high pressure has really been building in strongly over the desert southwest. on the western side of that high, we're getting this flow up from down south and we get high clouds from time to time. in general, the high pressure builds in strongly, the temperatures are going to come up. probably not another 5 to 10 degrees but a few degrees at least. they're sweltering down south. excessive heat warnings posted for much of the southern third of the state. that extends in to parts of arizona and new mexico. for us, do we get low clouds? according to the futurecast, we do. that will keep the shoreline cool. but inland doesn't get much of a break. you can see by tomorrow afternoon more high clouds will be working their way in over the bay area. so it's not a severe heat event for us. numbers nevertheless will be in the mid 90s for much of the bay area. as warming winds come in to the bay. for are most tomorrow right along the shoreline we'll still have an onshore flow. that will keep the shoreline cool. sunny and warm for everybody. all week inland. relief at the beach all week as

well. no significant cooling in sight. high temperature forecast shows numbers well above average now. san francisco tomorrow hits 76 degrees in concord, 94. south bay tomorrow, plenty of sun. 94 at morgan hill. 93 for los gatos. in campbell, 90 degrees. east bay, low to mid 90s. as warm as 97 degrees at brentwood. and up in the north bay, 87 at santa rosa and san rafael. mill valley, 87 degrees. in the city, nice and wild. warm for ukiah, clear lake, cloverdale, and windsor near 90 degrees. extended forecast. we'll be looking for numbers to be in the mid 90s from here to eternity. temperatures in the mid 80s around the bay. shoreline, numbers will be nice and mild with readings in the mid 60s. nice beach day tomorrow. all eyes now are on the warriors game. so is dennis o'donnell live at

fans got here late. there was some disappointment trying to get in to the parking lot. the as game ended as the warriors fans were trying to arrive. the game is underway in the 1st quarter, game 7, winner take all. i'll start with golf first because dustin johnson, he's at a bizarre track record at the majors. take last year for instance, in the u.s. open. a 3-putt that cost him that championship. go back to 2010 in the pga tournament where a rules violation cost him that one. more strange happenings at oakmont. that's the country club that has pennsylvania turnpike running through it. dustin johnson finished the third round down four strokes to lowry. johnson hit the birdie on 9 to pull even with lowry. while johnson was gaining shots, lowry dropping them. 9 after a bad tee shot. he would bogey and fall one shot back at dj.

johnson had a two-stroke lead when a rules official approached him on the 12th to tell him he accidentally caused his ball to move on the fifth green. similar thing happened to shaen lowry yesterday. lowry trying to make the moot point. misses on 15 to give johnson a two-shot lead. a penalty shot would not make the difference. johnson on 16 had a 10-footer to get up and down to save par. catches right edge and drops. 4 under for the championship. still a 2-shot lead. his approach to the green is tied, a remarkable win considering his past major disappointment and the possibility of that stroke penalty today. he embraces his son and wife paulina gretzky, the daughter of wayne. great story there. the warrior playoff run, unbelievably it began two months

ago. at that time the giants were tied with the dodgers for first place. now today, eight weeks later, the giants have a six-game lead on the dodgers. tampa's mascots raymond showing off his moves. jake peavey ran in to trouble in the 1st inning. one out, runners on the scorners. steve pierce popped one to shallow right. joe panik makes the over the shoulder catch to keep the runner at 3rd. then peavey strikes out corey dickerson to end the inning. he allowed just one run in six innings and matched his season high with eight strikeouts. top of the 4th, giants down 1-0. brandon belt crushes the solo shot over the bleachers in right. his second homer of the series. his tenth of the year. eighth inning, joe panik with a chance to drive in the go-ahead run for the second day in a row and he delivers. gregor blanco scores. four-run inning for the giants. they beat the rays 5-1 for their eighth straight win. i think we can say reports of jake peavey's demise were indeed

premature. this time last month he was 1-5 with an earned run average over 8. the worst in the majors. but his five starts since then, he's 2-1 with a 1.76 earned run average. as showing their support for the warriors wearing strength in numbers shirts during batting practice. 2nd inning, albert pujols hit a screamer down the 3rd base line. ball boy can't make the leaping grab. the fan in the front row brought his glove. makes the no-look catch. max muncie showing off his wheels as he races in to grab the baseball. not bad for a guy making his fifth career start in the outfield. top of the 5th. carlos perez hammers the fastball in to the left field seats. l.a. a 2-0 lead. third home run of the year for perez who came in to the game hitting just .185. jed lowrie, one of the 18th playoffs for the r as.

a three-hit shutout. angels win 2-0. oakland is a season worst 13 games below .500. so bad news for the oakland athletics today. hopefully better news for the warriors who as you know they had a 3-1 series lead. if they win, if they lose, it will be the biggest collapse in nba finals history. so hopefully they won't be on the wrong side of history tonight. >> no doubt. going to be quite a game 7. are you hearing a lot of roaring in there for us? >> well, i'm doing my exclusive talking live shot.
