were stabbed when a group attacked a neo-nazi rally. good evening chaos at the state capitol. several people were stabbed when a group attacked a neo nazi rally. good evening, i'm juliette goodrich. >> i'm brian hackney. the violence broke out on the grounds of the capitol building shortly before noon today. at least seven people were stabbed as dozens of demonstrators with the traditionalist worker party, a white nationalist group, clashed with hundreds of counterprotesters. even journalists were targeted. the counter protesters taunted the media to leave the area then got physical. we spoke with one woman with the counterprotesters who justified the use of violence against the

white nationalists. >> we will not accept or allow racist genocide organizing to take place on the front steps of the capitol of california. and we would do it again. >> the right wing group was holding a march to promote free expression. they had a permit for their rally. one man told us he was just there to observe but was still being bullied by counterprotesters. >> how many political beliefs are there in this country? as many people as there are, that's how many political discussions we can have. to resort to violence is not the way to do it. boy any side. >> just mostly ago we learned the lockdown at the capitol just ended. joe vazquez is in sacramento. look for his live report at 6:00 tonight. he'll have details about the bay area activists involved in today's a riot. san francisco is full of pride today. the 46th annual lgbt pride parade made its way up market street. kpix 5 reporter mark kelly was

there. >> san francisco pride 2016 went off without a hitch. but orlando certainly on people's minds. >> it's been great to see everybody come together. >> reporter: for many along the parade route, this march up market street is the highlight of pride weekend. >> love it. i love it. i love the energy. it's really positive. it's a great day. >> reporter: corporate america has latched on to the pride movement. float after float at the 46th annual parade was sponsored by a variety of mega businesses. >> they've obviously put a lot of money and thought in to their presence. >> reporter: many in the parade held signs for orlando. here the shooting massacre thousands of miles away hits very close to home. >> it's not a matter of differences, color, sexual orientation, we're all one big family. >> reporter: because of orlando, security at this year's

civic center presentation was extra tight. at this one entrance at turk and hyde streets, the line stretched down the block for hours. every person had to go through metal detectors but few seemed to mind the extra precautions. >> they have to check everyone coming in. so i do feel it's safer. >> is it worth the wait? >> definitely. >> reporter: in san francisco, mark kelly, kpix 5. >> there are pride celebrations in other cities across the country, including new york city. it began with a moment of silence for the victims of the orlando massacre. thousands gathered to watch the parade make its way down 5th avenue in to greenwich village. hillary clinton walked along the parade route along with cuomo and bill de blasio. the orlando victims honored at this your's pride parade. spelling the word pulse carried throughout the parade route. it's the 47th year for the

event. this year's theme, solidarity through pride. >> throughout the day we've seen posts about pride celebrations across social media. instagram says california is one of the states with the highest rate of pride-related posts. users are asked to post their photos for instagram's weekend ta project by using #whp. the supreme court voted 5-4 to legalize same-sex marriage. jim was the plaintiff at the center of the decision. his husband, john arthur, died of als in 2013, three months after their wedding, which was not recognized by their home state of ohio. arthur's death certificate listed him as single until the supreme court ruling. >> for me it takes it back to the reason john and i started this fight. to live up to our promises. i owe this to him to see this through to the end. >> some groups are working to overturn the ruling, saying the decision was unconstitutional, but he believes the decision

will stand. now to the fight when it comes to gun control. house democrats say they're not giving up. they're planning their next move after their sit-in failed to produce any legislative action over gun control. kpix 5's maria medina tells us about the democrats' strategy to keep the pressure on republicans. >> reporter: after their sit-in that eventually drew 170 lawmakers came this promise. >> the fight is not over. this is just one step. >> we said enough is enough. >> reporter: bay area congressman eric swalwell took part in the protest over gun control prompted by the orlando shooting. >> the cameras were cut. i thought well, i've got periscope, snapchat, facebook live. >> reporter: the lawmakers turned to their cell phones to live street the sit-in and captured national attention. they threatened to occupy the house floor indefinitely until republicans allowed votes on two

gun measures including banning guns to those on the no-fly list. >> if you're a suspected terrorist, by god, you shouldn't get a gun. >> under those mediums you can hear back from constituents. you can see how many people are viewing. it was millions. and you can see in real-time their comments. >> reporter: after 25 hours they ended the protest and vowed to go to the district with the issue and start back up when congress returns in a week. >> june 29th, this wednesday, we're going to have another day of action. >> reporter: if house democrats can gain momentum with their constituents in the next week, history shows a national uproar can in fact force floor votes and they say the sit-in was just the beginning. >> this was the sound of the starting gun. this was not the finish line. >> house speaker paul ryan called the sit-in a publicity stunt and a fundraiser tactic. maria medina, kpix 5. hawaii is now the first state in the nation to track gun owners through a federal criminal record database. the database known as wrap back

system is operated by the fbi. it notifies police any time a gun owner is arrested for a crime anywhere in the united states. hawaii's governor signed the bill in to law late last week. in campaign 2016, hillary clinton leads donald trump in two new polls. but the difference varies. a washington post survey shows clinton ahead by 12 points. but a poll by the wall street journal has clinton ahead by five points. about 1,000 adults were interviewed for both polls. still ahead, a police officer lucky to escape this fiery crash in the east bay. learn what happened moments before the accident. >> and find out when the blue angels will resume performances after a pilot was killed in a crash. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

the discovery of two unexploded pipe bombs prompted an evacuation. last night probation officers came across what they're calling

a destructive device in an apartment on boris court. they immediately got people out of some of the units there then a bomb squad arrived and found a second destructive device. they removed and disposed of both. police arrested two people and then let the other residents back in. nobody was hurt. police chase ended in a fiery crash on 580 in oakland. the oakland police officer was chasing a carjacking suspect when the officer, while trying to avoid another car, slammed his suv in to a pole near the high street exit. the suv burst in to flames. the officer was able to escape. other police officers caught up to the suspect and arrested him. a wildfire tearing through kern county has destroyed 200 buildings including 150 homes. the flames wiped out entire blocks in the community of south lake. crews are working to restore damaged power lines as home made signs in the area praised firefighters for their efforts. >> honestly i was pretty much ready to see it all gone.

when you aggressive up through the neighborhood, you see nothing is there. >> we still have a very ugly fire out there in extremely dry fuel and a lot of fuel with these winds, it can get off and running and blow back around. >> fire officials are not yet allowing most evacuees to go back home as a result and we'll have a live report from the fire lines coming up at 6:00. bay area firefighters are lending a hand down south. multiple districts have sent fire crews, paramedics, and safety officers. more heavy rainstorms are expected in west virginia as people try to clean up after last week's deadly flooding. more than two dozen people lost their lives in the floods. the high water started to recede yesterday but more rain is expected tomorrow. some west virginians say it is the worst disaster they've ever seen. >> you see on the news, this is always somebody else until it's

scotland as we face the prospect. i didn't create these situations. i've got to try to navigate the best way through them. >> meanwhile u.s. secretary of state john kerry is meeting with various leaders in europe but he says the u.s. values its special relationship with britain and the brexit vote won't change that. in california three men drowned after the small boat they were in capsized off catalina. this photo shows the aftermath, small boat in pieces off the island's point. seven people were onboard the 15-foot boat when officials say swells from the south generated waves. a passenger on a ship saw it all happen. >> it was pretty horrific. it's not every day you see people floating trying to swim and they disappear. >> four survivors were sent to a hospital. one is in critical condition.

the blue angels will soon be back in action after a hiatus. one of the team's elite flyers died earlier this month when his fa18 went down in tennessee. after his death, the blue angels canceled many performances. now the navy says they'll start up again on july 2nd during the national cherry festival air show in michigan. talk about a scary ride, nearly a dozen people are recovering after the roller coaster they were on derailed at a theme park in scotland. police say five cars detached from the rails and collided with the ride's main structure before hitting the ground. an eyewitness said people were trapped upside down on the ride. two adults and eight children are being treated. uber is coming under increased scrutiny after leaked documents claim their drivers really don't make all that much. kpix 5's devin fehely on whether the so-called gig economy makes sense.

>> it's an uber disappointment. >> reporter: that's kelsey's conclusion after driving for uber and lyft. he said more drivers and lower prices have led to diminishing returns, making it increasingly difficult to make ends meet. >> next thing you know there's thousands of drivers and it's taking forever to get a ride. which is why when it started getting bad, that's why i started organizing drivers, trying to get us together in a group so we can have a voice. >> reporter: the so-called gig economy, companies like uber, lyft, task rabbit and others, promise to put flexible good paying jobs at people's fingertips. a recent buzzfeed article found once you factored in operating costs, drivers in cities like denver, detroit, and houston weren't making much more than minimum wage. >> a driver on uber is going to be subject to whatever prices uber is setting for that particular ride and then there's going to be some expenses of

driving your car because you've got maintenance, gasoline. >> reporter: they said the company offers drivers unparalleled flexibility to work as little or as much as they want. he's not sure how much longer he can hold on and fears he's being driven from an industry that hasn't shared its profits equally. in the bay area today, from friday to saturday numbers came up 5 to 10 degrees. that puts us right in the century mark of some of the warmest spots of the bay area. it's still 100 degrees in parts of the east bay. 72 in oakland. livermore, 97. here in the city, mild, 66. we've got high pressure over the southern california area and also over four corners. temperatures will rain near 1 --

will remain near 100 inland. good beach weather if you can swing it for monday. futurecast shows we have some low clouds but not much. here's how we'll look an hour before sunrise today. as the day goes on we go to severely clear for much of the bay area and temperatures correspondingly stay about where they were today. at least that breaks a trend. we shouldn't get any warmer tomorrow but we're not going to get much cooler either, not till wednesday do things really cool down. coast and bay fog again tonight in patches. near 100 degrees inland but still cool near the shoreline. and temperatures will finally begin to retreat inland by wednesday with a deeper marine layer. for tomorrow we're close to average near the shoreline. concord, 15 degrees above average tomorrow with a forecast of 100 degrees. san jose, 7 degrees warmer than average. down in the south bay, numbers

in the upper 80s and near 90 degrees. san jose, 90. 98 for morgan hill. ever by the shoreline, mild, readings in the 60s and 70s. 106 at brentwood. 100 for antioch and livermore. dublin, 100 degrees. 100 degrees at concord. a little bit cooler but not by much on the carquinez strait. plenty warm around sonoma, napa, all in the 90s. 91 for san rafael. 96 in mill valley. smoking up around clear lake and clover dale and windsor for monday. extended forecast, calling for numbers to remain near 100 degrees inland. in the warmest spots for monday and tuesday before finally beginning to shave a few degrees off highs by wednesday. and thursday and friday, finally we'll get numbers down in to the upper 80s. we have to wait until next weekend for that. fairly mild. at the shoreline, low clouds. that will keep it relatively

i'm going to zoom in. the champion is still there taking photographs. tony stewart announced his retirement effective at the end of the sprint cup series season. today he said goodbye to the wine country in style. a fly above the track before the race. they were off and running. local guy, aj would take a pit penalty late in the race to put him out of contention. 61 laps to go. kyle busch and carl edwards battling for the lead through the turns. side by side. there were no wrecks today but four cautions. two caused by debris on the track. this little string brought out the yellow. that was good news for tony stewart who stayed on the track. he jumps out to the lead on the restart and he stayed out in front until the final lap. hamlin goes underneath turn 7 to take the lead from smoke. the race is over, you're thinking.

not so fast. as they come around, the paper clip turn, stewart inside, hamlin outside. and smoke in the most exciting race ever in sonoma wins it. ithis first -- it's his third win here at sonoma. >> i'm not proud of the last corner around the last lap. 39 other guys would have done the same thing if they had the chance there to do that. i'm proud of the way i ran the last 14 laps. i wish i wouldn't have made a couple mistakes. for the most part i felt like it reminded me of some of the days of old when we were here. >> stewart is done with the photographs and now he's signing autographs. long time coming for tony stewart. how about some baseball now. johnny cueto, he had not allowed more than two runs in a start since may 2nd. today looking for his 12th win
