we've also learned 3 u.s. college students are among the victims. one of them was a sophomore at uc berkeley. we spoke to some of her fellow students who are trying to make sense of what happened. >> friends expressed their sadness over the killing of tarishi jain a friend wrote i can't get myself to write about what a great human being and friend you were right now. but i hope you make the stars as wonderful a place as you did here with us. she was interning at a company mru a -- through a uc berkeley program. her father was one of the family members waiting outside of the crime scene hoping she would be rescued. the indian national is one of more than 20 people killed in the terrorist attacks. the university says she was going to study economics she was active on campus and got involved with the international

students association. she also worked on a student run nonprofit group which helped people in developing countries. those who knew her said she was smart, ambitious and had a big heart. >> i'm sure the community of berkeley feels it. we got sent an email. >> most students are home for the summer break but those who heard are saddened by the news. >> it's terrible to end her life that short. to be somewhere where you thought you were going to go learn. >> i feel sorry for her family i hope they can deal with that. >> the student body will plan a vigil and memorial on campus. they hope to release information about that soon. . >> uc berkeley says 7 other students are doing the same internship. they are making sure those students are safe and deciding whether to get those students

out of that area. a jewish center has been shut down all day after somebody called in are a bomb threat. police were called in just after 9:00 in the morning. they evacuated the staff and called in the bomb squad. technicians did a thorough sweep of the building and didn't find anything. new fallout from the sex scandal centered around the oakland police didn't. two officers under investigation have been removed from their rolls -- roles working with youths. this 18-year-old claims she had sex with both of the officers. both have been reassigned for the time being. richmond's mayor says further action may be taken. part of the main drag through pleasant hill is shut down right now after a water main break left a gaping hole in its wake.

contra costa boulevard will be shut down until at least tomorrow. crews are making repairs right now. >> brian crews have been out here all day trying to fix this pipe that burst last night and caused a lot of trouble today. some businesses along this stretch of contra costa boulevard couldn't open today. and if they did open they closed early. >> the problem is right now is that the heat is going kill the flowers. >> deb's flower market is one of the few businesses that kept regular hours today. watching drivers try to figure out the detours has been entertaining. >> people have been honking and yelling. being that these wide doors i can see everything and i see people stopping and getting confused. . >> just after 9:00 last night a water line broke causing this

penetrated through the entire deck. crews started working on it last night and now one westbound lane will be closed from 9:00 tonight to 9:00 tomorrow morning. and the same period of time sunday night to monday. there will be no service between fremont and south hey ward to prepare for the new san jose extension. there is a bus bridge to shuttle passengers but it will set you back another 20-40 minutes. regular service resumes monday morning. it will shut down again two weekends from now. >> thanks in part of the cheaper gas the national average is nearly 50 cents lower than this time last year and aaa estimates of the 43 million americans traveling this weekend three quarters of them will be driving. >> and if you're driving take

in fresno county the fire added up to 2,000 acres. it's 10% contained as winds fan the flames. the fire forced the closure of highway 28 which runs to i-5. many living near the fire have been ordered out of their homes. and a new fire has burned about 250 acres. only about 5% contained and more than 1700 firefighters are still battling that trail head fire outside of sacramento. the fire is 12% contained. mandatory evacuations are in place for volcanoville and tar valley estates. it secured the dry weather and rugged te rain make it -- terrain make it hard to fight. >> it started on fuse near forest hills.

no structures have been damaged and no injuries reported and so far nobody knows how it started. well air tankers have been grounded twice because of drones flying in the area. why the aircrafts are such a big concern for firefighters. >> all kind of fun stuff. >> they can move quick, fly high. and capture incredible images. they're also easy to use. >> you don't have to be educated to use them. >> he is a hobby drone user but some people are reck less. >> we cannot fly. we will not risk that with our pilots. >> during fires there are temporary flight restrictions in place. it's against rules to operate in that space. but people are rarely arrested. >> it's like speeding on the freeway. >> he says lawmakers and

in oklahoma city it's interesting to see how desperate some teams are. the warriors brought all their stars but boston took their pitch to another level. they brought tom brady with them. plays football and durant is being courted to join the basketball team. and no brady is not his favorite quarterback. he will meet with san antonio today. he is leaning on staying with the thunder with golden state being the likely favorite if he leaves. the mavericks intend to sign harrison barnes to a mass contract on july 7th. golden state can match any offer barnes gets and if the warriors don't get durant they will likely resign barnes. djokovic trailed at the match.

the 24-year-old driver crashed through a fence and hit a major gas pipeline in the morning. the fire ball could be seen for miles and the explosions and fire sounded like a locomotive and went on for 20 minutes. a view from the air shows it massive damage left behind. firefighters evacuated residents but amazingly only the driver was hurt. he's in the hospital right now. and he's facing felony charges. in texas a 12-year-old girl is accused of leading police on a hundred mile per hour chase with her 7-year-old sister in the passenger seat. it shows it car striking other cars as it flew through traffic. the older girl stole their grandmother's car for a joyride. >> the time she's in the center lane. then she's in the eastbound lanes and then she moves as far to the her left.

she's on the shoulder in the eastbound lanes going the belong direction. and so there's many many many cars coming at her. >> police were able to take control of the car through its on star system. the preteen driver will sit in jail until next week. holocaust survivor elie wiesel has died. he shared his story through his book night. he was freed in 1945 after his mother, father, and one sister had died in nazi camps. he went on to write many other books. he became a living reminder of nazi atrocities. >> he made an event like the holocaust real. you know to individuals both it happened to an individual and therefore individuals have a responsibility from keeping it from happening again.
