your realtime captioner is linda marie macdonald. they were out protecting the free speech rights of these people and they did it at the cost of their own lives. >> breaking right now. security threat at dallas police headquarters! crowds have gathered to remember five officers killed on thursday night. good evening, i'm brian hackney. >> i'm juliette goodrich. our joe vazquez joins us live from dallas with what we know so far. joe. >> reporter: juliette, i got to tell you, it's already a tense time here in dallas. the tensions have heightened in the last half-hour or so. you can see right down the sidewalk down there a group of police officers, cops have been running around with guns drawn just within the last few moments. according to police, they saw a man run into the dallas police parking garage right behind the billion here.

that man dressed in black, possibly wearing a mask, police are currently sweeping that area. what they said is that they have received some sort of credible threat that someone was going to try to hurt police officers. now, back live here in front of police headquarters, they are still allowing the public to come here. you can see it is a growing memorial. that is one of two police cars, you can see it's just completely covered with flowers and balloons and cards and well wishes. many people here starting to come to grips with just how bad the last few days have been. [ pause ] >> i think just the reality that people lost their lives this and seeing the police cars and i think it probably just hit home more than it has since thursday. [ gunfire ] >> reporter: thursday the day a sniper named micah johnson attacked dallas police. just as a peaceful protest was ending. we knew that johnson was in the military in afghanistan. now he was sent home from war

because of allegations of sexual harassment. his accuse her a restraining order against him. he was honorably discharged from the army though. along with the weapons and bomb- making materials detectives collected at his home in the suburban dallas community of mesquite, they also found a personal journal of combat tactics that officials say he used when he assassinated five police officers. >> this was a mobile shooter that had written manifestos on how to shoot, shoot and move, shoot and move. >> as painful as this week has been, i firmly believe that america is not as divided as some have suggested. >> reporter: folks gathering at the police headquarters desperately want to believe that's true. >> there's so many people coming out being supportive. this is what we need. this is what we need. we [ indiscernible ] >> reporter: we're back live at police headquarters at dallas.

i got to tell you, it's a little bit tense right now. we're still trying to understand what's going on here. bottom line, police say they have received some sort of credible threat. officers might be targeted again by one or more individuals. they have chased some guy into the garage who is wearing all black. we'll see what happens and bring you the latest. >> joe, obviously this mix of emotions, there's this tragedy, then there's the potential threats going on. are you sensing that mix of emotion of sadness and then that unknown fear? >> reporter: yeah. sadness and -- and people are just wrecked right now by this. i don't think they have been able to process all that has happened in the last couple of days. and then now general if there's fear here. they have allowed people to come here. the public is still gathering at the memorial, but just a block away suddenly there's

cops running around with gumps. it's a little strange mishmash here as people trying to quell what's going on at the department. >> we'll check back with you. joe vazquez in dallas, thank you. back here in san francisco, police brutality protestors are heading toward the bay bridge. earlier today the group had swarmed the area near fifth and bryant streets forcing official to close the on-ramp to 80. kpix 5's jackie ward is in the area with new details. jackie. >> reporter: brian, we have been following the "black lives matter" mid mid group for about three hours and as you said, they started off in fifth and beaten but now we're here at harrison and essex where the bay bridge entrance is blocked off. a group of 150 people was here just a few minutes ago and then they seemed to go down essex street. we don't know exactly where they are heading. i don't know if they know where they are going. their game plan was to get on the bay bridge and they have been unsuccessful at that. but this has been a hectic day as far as trying to figure out

what their next move is. there was a heavy police presence right away, a very fast response and some officers were in riot gear. chp was also here. they helped keep everything calm. we spoke to some of the protestors. they said they don't want this to be a violent situation. but they do want to be heard. >> they keep killing our black people not even just black people mexican people, natives, killing everybody. >> i see all these videos on the internet of people getting killed. not just black people by the way but people in general getting killed by police. and nobody does anything about it. so that's what we here doing bringing attention to it. [ sirens ] >> reporter: so as far as getting on to the bay bridge, if you are a driver, it does look like the first street on- ramp just opened up. but the harrison and essex on- ramp is still blocked off. chp officers are helping on scene keeping those exits

unblocked and secured away from the protestors. but as you can see out here, it's still an active scene. it's very much on standby mode right now. [ sirens ] >> reporter: we're trying to figure out where the protestors are going. they don't seem to be slowing down any time soon. in san francisco, jackie ward, kpix 5. an attorney for the police officer who shot and killed philando castile in minnesota this week says the officer reacted to castile's gun, not to his race. the attorney for officer jeronimo yanez would not elaborate how castile displayed his weapon. or the events that led to wednesday's deadly traffic stop. castile's girlfriend was a passenger in the car and streamed the aftermath live on facebook, and she says that he told the officers he had a gun and a permit to carry it. castile would have been 53 next week. this week's violence in the u.s. forcing the government of the bahamas to take the step of issuing a travel advisory to its citizens.

the caribbean nation is urging them to be careful when traveling to american cities where there have been incidents of shootings. now, nearly 91% of residents in the bahamas are black. there has been an outpouring of support for officers here in the bay area in the wake of the dallas shooting. mark kelly talked to a napa county teenager who says the tragedy will not derail her career plans. >> makes me sad. >> reporter: when kimberly saw that a sniper killed five dallas police officers this week, her heart was broken but not scared. does it make you think twice about going into law enforcement? >> um, it doesn't. i still want to go into law enforcement. >> reporter: kim's strong interest doesn't surprise tony who runs the california cadet academy. >> being in law enforcement is a calling. >> reporter: he says the academy, which shows teenagers what being a firefighter, paramedics or cop is really like, has gotten more popular

over its 11 years in spite of tensions with police. >> people are definitely more interested in the programs today. firefighters, law enforcement officers, anyone who is involved in public safety, you have to have the heart for it. >> reporter: we've also seen tremendous love for our bay area men and women in uniform following the dallas shooting this week. this poster placed outside napa pd thanks officers for their service. san ramon pd was sent a cake. this crayon drawing, even some starbucks as a thank you. and in novato, someone placed a single vase of roses in front of the police station. and the california cadet academy spent today collecting donations to mail to dallas. >> one of our brothers or sisters falls and we all fall. all the money that is raised will go directly to the peace officers association in dallas to benefit the victims and their families. >> reporter: in american canyon, mark kelly, kpix 5. >> the california cadet

performance at the stanislaus county fair ... and entered rehab for drug addiction. r&b singer chaka khan has canceled next week's perform at the stanislaus county fair and entered rehab for drug addiction. she has struggled with prescription pain medication addiction. she voluntarily entered the program to get healthy.

a spokesman for the county says that jody whatley will replace chaka khan. two men are under arrest after a bust at a home in antioch netting drugs, weapons and cash. contra costa county deputies found heroin, methamphetamine and ecstasy and marijuana. they also seized assault rifles and five other guns. plus about $80,000 in cash. deputies made the bust on thursday morning and then booked two men into jail in martinez. it's happened again. a commercial jet has landed at the wrong airport. a delta flight from minneapolis landed at ellsworth air force base instead of rapid city ten miles away! the runway is shorter and not equipped for big jets. the crew had to brake hard to stop. no one on board was hurt. 130 people on board, that is. the same thing happened to a southwest flight two years ago. coming up, a rapper caught in the housing crunch in the bay area. how he is putting his frustrations to music. >> and we'll be singing a different tune this week.

is growing. just days after former "fox and frie he the scandal surrounding fox news chief roger ailes is growing. just days after former fox and friends host gretchen carlson filed a sexual harassment suit against the 76-year-old executive, more than a dozen women have come forward with similar allegations. some of the claims go back 25 years ago. ailes denies all of it. wendy's has now posted a list of restaurants where customers' data was hacked including at least four in the bay area, san jose, antioch, livermore and pittsburg. starting in late 2015, hackers stole names, credit card numbers and expiration dates at more than 1,000 wendy's restaurants in the u.s. the company is offering free credit monitoring and other protection. oakland has become one of the hottest rental markets in the bay area and now people who have lived in the city for

decades are getting pushed out including a well-known rapper. kpix 5's mike sugerman on how the rapper is turning his housing frustration into a music video. [ rap ] >> half-hour ago the mayor of oakland announced she is create a special cabinet to look at housing and affordability. >> reporter: not so much news these days but now it's also art. [ rap ] >> reporter: tech money pushed rapper steven gaines and his family out. they were gentrified out of oakland and he put his story to music. [ rap ] >> reporter: the gentries, he raps, are rich with tech money, which is the name of his video. it started to gain traction. >> basically, i wrote the song out of frustration as an emotional reaction to what i was experiencing. >> i'm out here right now moving my whole family on the spur of the movement. >> reporter: he shot his move

from a place he and his wife and sons have lived in oakland before being forced out when the landlord sold the place. things had changed from his previous real estate experiences. steven's family life mirrored what a lot of us went through in the past decade here in the bay area. he bought this house, nice house in west oakland, 2007. not at the top of the market. then the market crashed. he sold it for 35% of what he paid for it. later in a short sale. >> i was like flabbergasted with the price jump. why is everything so expensive? [ tech mon, tech money, tech money, rap ] >> reporter: average monthly rents in oakland are up 30%. in a year, now close to $3,000 a month for the average single- family home. >> i want to stimulate a conversation and i think it's doing that. >> reporter: that's what artists do and he is taking his show on the road going back on tour. we caught up with him at the airport. and when he comes back, he will be going home. to san leandro.

[ rap ] a church reopens in napa tomorrow nearly two years after it was damaged in an earthquake. the quake in august of 2014 knocked down a stained glass window, cracked others and broke walls. now a $2 million renovation is done. and most of the money came from parishioners. tomorrow there's a procession from a gym where they have been holding services since the damage. i forget the napa earthquake, it woke you up, right? >> absolutely. i'm a light sleeper but it definitely jolted me absolutely. >> you were up and running. >> yes, i was! straight to napa. [ laughter ] >> i slept right through it. [ laughter ] anyway. we are going to have high look at the golden gate bridge right now. in case you're sweltering at the east bay, fog through the bridge, glimpses of blue as we look across toward marin. and right now, concord has 76

degrees. in san francisco, only 61. san jose 77. santa rosa 76. here we on the west coast. we have low pressure that's spinning abeam seattle and as a result they are going to have some showers tonight. the low however will move east. then high pressure for the first time in more than two weeks is going to build back in over the west coast warming us up this week. but tomorrow with the low kicking inland we have a pretty strong surface air flow. wow, surface air flow. that would be wind! wouldn't it. it's going to be windy and brisk through tomorrow. and the futurecast shows that we have low clouds at the shoreline in the forecast for early sunday morning. time goes on, though, and we'll melt those clouds back to the shoreline later in the day so sunday looks mostly sunny. the giants are taking on the arizona diamondbacks tomorrow at 5:00. it will be fair and breezy. game time 5 p.m. tomorrow. and 62 degrees that doesn't look bad. coast and bay fog tonight.

a little drizzle, not as much as we have had lately near the shoreline. temperatures warming up sunday then 90 inland midweek. so things are warming up. nice week for the california state fair. they are in the state's capital of sacramento. nice and sunny and 58 degrees. and for the stern grove festival, 6 degrees tomorrow. the usual low clouds and some sun actually. sunday streets block party in the tenderloin low clouds then 62 degrees. so there's lots going on including the art and wine festival this weekend in los altos. plenty of sunshine beautiful weather 77 degrees. here's how it looks overnight tonight. numbers will be in the low to mid-50s. sun-up tomorrow 3 minutes before 6 a.m. heading out of the bay area, mid-80s for the most part in the great valley. for the bay area we'll be in the 80s inland. 85 at fairfield. 82 at livermore. 80 for san jose. here in san francisco, 67. santa rosa 79. extended forecast, we'll be looking for plenty of sunshine

in the week ahead inland. around the bay very nice. low clouds and sun in the afternoon. temperatures will be in the low 70s and along the shoreline low clouds. next weekend, by then we'll cool off a few degrees. so expect a little bit of a hot spell as we get into the week. could the bay area teams use a little bit of a hot spell? >> one can. coming up in sports, while the a's try to stay out of the cellar the team with the best record in baseball keeps rolling as they are about to enter the all star break. sports is next. ,, ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

and the team may have a new look when they return. matt cain is close to retu searces it's the last weekend for the giants before they head into the all star break and the team may have a new look when they return. matt cain is close to returning and so are hunter pence, matt duffy, joe panik and tomlin some. this woman learned it's not a good idea to try to catch the foul ball with your food. her friend didn't like the fact that she laughed at her for doing that. all ended well. giants newest all star brandon belt a triple. pagan walks in from third to score the first run of the game. next inning, now tied at one. arizona's brandon gives the d- backs the lead. here comes -- he is not happy about that at all. in the bottom of the inning, green goes deep for his first home run as a giant. two-run shot. that makes it 3-2. and peavy

loves that. same score in the 6th. tejada shoots a double down the left field like. blanco scores from first to make it a two-run game. giants win 66 games. wins have been hard to come by for the a's who have lost seven of their last nine. today kendall graveman steps on the mound. he put his rough start behind him 3-0 in the last six starts. nolan ryan on the right of this video and he is talking with hollywood director rob reiner at today's game in houston. top of the 2nd steven vogt opposite field for his 7th homer of the year. a's 1-0. next inning vogt bounces an rbi single to bring home josh redick to make it 2- 0. vogt with a three for four in the game finishing a triple shy of the cycle. graveman with a perfect game going in the fifth. now in the 8th inning he strikes out gattis for one of his three ks. graveman 3-0 into the ninth but

the bunker. and she creates a four-way tie for the leads but the world's number one female golfer lydia ko on 18 breaks the tie with a birdie. she carded a two-under 70 and leads by a shot heading into the final round tomorrow. tennis, serena williams looking for her 7th wimbledon title against angelique kerber. today it was all serena. with the backhand, kerber had no chance to return it and serena wins the first set. second set she gets it easily. williams'22nd career grand slam title tiger had with steffi graf for the most in the open air. but williams' day was not done. she came back three hours later with her sister venus for the doubles finals. they won the match in straight sets against the two opponents. they are 14-0 in grand slam finals as doubles partners.

back on thursday, when the warriors introduced this guy, kevin durant, has anybody heard of him?
