stockpiling weapons. >> this was a mobile shooter that had a written manifest toe ono on how to shoot and move. >> i don't know what the answer is but i know people need to do more than have a conversation and it can't just be rhetoric. it has to be sincere and heartfelt. >> i'm numb after the events but being down here and seeing all these people feeling all these emotions i want to stand here with you. >> we just grabbed each other. we were crying at the same time. >> obviously we're feeling the same things right now. >> it can't happen again. it's too much. >> to add to the tension police say they received a credible anonymous threat that somebody was on their way here to harm police officers. they put out a city wide alert. it's the last thing they need.

in dallas kpix 5. >> a touching attribute today to one of the -- tribute today. 43-year-old brent thompson was newly married the first ever transsit officer to die in the line of duty. people lined the overpass as a convoy of cars carried him home. president obama is in europe for the nato summit but he will cut his visit short. he will also try to fix a ruptured trust between the community and the police. >> there is sorrow and anger and confusion about next steps. but there's unity in recognizing that this is not how we want our communities to operate. this is not who we want to be as americans.

>> stay with kpix 5 for continuing coverage we'll be bringing you the latest information on the air and at cbssf.com. it was a mess on the streets of san francisco as protesters blocked traffic on the bay bridge. they were speaking out against the recent police shootings. kpix 5's emily is at the plaza. emily? >> jewel yet it was five hours long at least and it started and ended peacefully which on both ends police and protesters feel like in light of everything that's happened that's a success. >> they marched for hours starting at 1:30 this afternoon until before sun down shouting their message for all of san francisco to hear. >> it's about kids growing up getting shot every day. >> in the wake of two officer involved fatal shootings of

black men civil rights advocates walked block after block sometimes stopping traffic always chanting. >> the hours long event was peaceful. some protesters tried to block an exit by were kept back by officers. the crowd of more than 150 dispersed once they made it to the plaza still shouting their chant. >> i say use this. this is your power. without this they can't beat you. understand that. >> police were here for about an hour after everyone dispersed. we were here too. nothing happened and again they feel like that's, in light of everything that's happened is a grand success. reporting live turn turn kpix 5. >> activists are trying to draw attention to the number of police shootings nationwide. many held signs saying hands up

don't shoot. that demonstration was peaceful. a tense protest outside baton rouge saw several people arrested. they are protesting the death of alton sterling earlier this week. the protests come as security is increased in the wake of the attack in dallas. departments have seen more threats against police by phone and on social media. the fresno department has received 30 threatening calls. >> from individuals tharp making threats, hateful remarks towards law enforcement. and it's not just uncommon it'sen heard of. >> earlier today hundreds of protesters stormed the streets of fresno and fried to get on to the -- tried to get on to the highway. traffic was backed up. >> police say they have broken up a kidnap for ransom scheme

but they're trying to find elvira babb. we report on the trail of evidence. >> there is fingerprint dust o the door of the apartment on daniel's avenue but no sign of the 57-year-old mother. she was last seen on june 29th at seafood city. on july first her son got a text message from a number that said his mother was being held for ransom and if he contacted authorities she was dead. >> he tried to xhun cate with them and there was -- communicate with them and there was no further communication. >> he did call the police. late last night these four emmanuel espinosa ruse and jalon brown and larry young of sacramento were arrested. the suspects are in the solano

county jail. she remains missing. >> we were hoping that someone will come forward that will be able to help us. >> they say that elvy and es pi no sa were acquaint answers. neighbors are concerned and baf led by the demand. >> she didn't have no money. >> while vallejo pd isn't revealing the amount we've learned it was less than $100,000. neighbors are hoping she will be found. >> i hope they find her alive. or at least find her for her children, you know. nobody deserves whatever happened to her. >> all four suspects are in jail tonight. they have been interviewed but are not being cooperative. they hope one will flip on the other and give up the location.

. we're also looking for the victim of another kidnapping. no sign of 15-year-old pearl penson in late may a witness saw an armed man pulling the girl toward a foot bridge in vallejo. that man was killed in a police shootout in santa barbara county but pearl has not been found. the other unusual case was of denise husbandkins. later they acknowledged that an abduction happened. huskins and her boyfriend sued the city. other bay area headlines now a driver fell asleep before hitting something on highway four today. it was already the scene of an accident. it's no firefighters were hurt. the driver who dozed off is

expected to be all right. and also in contra costa county a bust at a home drugs weapons and cash. sheriff's deputies found heroin and marijuana and also seized a couple of assault rifles and five other guns. plus nearly $80,000 in cash. deputies arrested two men in that bust and booked them into jail. investigators are trying to find out what caused a massive fire at a newark plant. it happened yesterday just about noon. black smoke could be seen for miles. it forced about 5,000 people living and working nearby to stay indoors overnight. federal funds on the way to repair a massive sinkhole. they will be reimbursed more

than $500,000 for repair work already done and $3 million for needed repairs. they hope to have the road fixed by mid-october. and still ahead. burning out of control a wildfire moves closer to home. the fight against the flames. and heavily damaged in a quake two years a napa church is ready to reopen its doors. what it took. we're looking to the heavens for some changes in the wetser and we have -- weather and we have found them and everyone knows the rules don't feed the bears but this family didn't get the memo and landed in big trouble. ,,,,,,,,,,

hundreds of homes were threatened... tonight strong winds are fuelling a wildfire near los angeles. hundreds of homes were threatened and people evacuated. word now they are being allowed to return home. crews will be out all night fighting the flames. the latest from sooevenson ranch. >> not even mountains can block the glow. the flames pierce the dark but during the day the show was in the air. aircrafts from federal, state and local agencies crisscrossed the skrie skies -- skies beating back flames and by the

time they packed up the hoses this woman's house was pink. >> they did an amazing job. >> photos show how close the flames came. that wall of smoke is burning. >> it's going to hit you eventually. >> and when it did firefighters were there to stop the flames a welcome sight for neighbors. >> who remember a much bigger fire in 2003. >> last time it was just like a tidal wave of flames just hovering over this whole complete cul-de-sac. this time there was more smoke than flames but this neighborhood's views are now gray. >> it will come back and be beautiful again. mother nature will take over. >> the fire is 15% contained and no word on what started it. a missouri police officer remains in critical condition tonight after being shot by a man during a traffic stop.

he pulled a man over for speeding in st. louis on friday morning. antonio taylor was arrested. he was armed with a .22 caliber handgun and fired three shots as the officer turned to walk back to his cruiser. police are calling it an ambush. police met with family and friends of a plaque man shot earlier this week -- black man shot earlier this week. protesters have been camp out in front of the governor's mansion for three days. a spokesperson for the governor says the meeting was cor jal but did not comment further. after the fatal shootings in dallas we have seen an outpouring of support for police in the bay area. people have sent local police

departments everything. and today in american canyon the american cadet academy collected donations to send to dallas. >> it makes me sad. it makes me sad for the police officers and also i think just for everyone in general for the community and everyone that was affected by it. >> and the money raised will go to the dallas victims and their families. >> tomorrow a church in napa damaged by the earthquake will finally be back in service. the quake in 2014 knocked down a stained glass window and broke walls but now a $2 million renovation is done thanks in large part to hundreds of contributions from hundreds of parishioners. an entry area was extended and the stained glass was replaced. a process will start from the

gymnasium where the congress has been meeting. . and the local aren't happy in san francisco. they plan to widen the sidewalks bus stops will be reorganized and new lights and planters will go up along the sidewalk art. some residents worry this will attract tourists and won't preserve the place in history. the work would start in 2018. the jackpot on the line tonight a lot of people are checking their powerball tickets. the numbers are 10, 38, 22, 61, and 64 with a power ball of 12. we don't know if anyone has the numbers. a new smart phone game is taking the nation by storm. it's called pokemon go. you can catch train and battle l characters but get this.
