12:23 pm
use the host dna or rna to replicate so without that it cannot live and viruses are very species-specific. most human viruses need a human host. most dog viruses need a dog host and same with cats like that. so it's rare that we see cross- species infection. >> so when we think about the zika virus, we haven't seen any animals with it? >> not to my knowledge. okay? it's not to say that couldn't happen. but i am not knowledgeable about zika infecting dogs at this point in time but perhaps in the future we might see that. there are cases where viruses will mutate and then it will infect other species. aids virus is a good example of that. we think it may have started with monkeys and it mutated and humans can now get it. like that. >> good to know. check with your vet if you have any questions. email us at pets@kpix.com and we'll have dr. jill here every friday to answer our questions. we'll be right back. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
