live from the cbs bay area studios. this is kpix 5 news. to begin with breaking news shots fired an a police officer streets shut down right now as they search for the suspect. >> live at the scene, donna? >> yeah police say a female officer was shot at but she was not hit by any gunfire. they say she suffered from some kind of injury. we don't know how or how severe. she has been taken to highland hospital to be examined. so let's show you the scene here. you can see they've shut done 73 sxrd international boulevard. they've shut down quite a few large intersections in this area. they've set up a big perimeter to look for the gunman.

we understand the gunman is on the run at this time. we want to show you the scene of the shooting as well. it is over at holly nooer the corner of 73rd and holly street where you see the police lights right now. it happened around 9:30 this evening. so about an hour 30 minutes ago. they say a gunman opened fire on a female officer. she was not hit but somehow got hurt. we understand she is at highland hospital. aside from fellow police officers i have been told by sources that city leaders including the mayor are there showing her support. we don't have the circumstance of why shots were fired and why this was targeted at the police officer. but once we get more information we'll be sure to pass that along. for now i'm live in oakland. >> do you know if the suspect

got away on foot or by car? >> we don't have that information whether the suspect was walking and shooting or was driving around in a car. we don't have that information. we're waiting for public information officer to come out with information. i can tell you though there are a lot of police officers in this area. so they're searching for the gunman. there's a helicopter i believe this is not a news helicopter. i believe it's a chp helicopter trying to get some more information. but chp here backing up opb as well. >> we have a crew on the way to the hospital. don thank you. >> a wildfire burning out of control thousands of acres scorched and it isn't stopping there. it's north of big sur the latest update 6500 acres have burned. >> only 5% contained. turn turn shows us how we are joining the battle.

>> the fire department left around 2:45 in afternoon and headed down to fight the fire. they are not the only local fire department headed that way. this is what dozens of local firefighters are tackling right now. they're trying to fight this fire burning along a ridge in big sur. >> the biggest factor is how remote it is. it's steep and remote so we have to hike everything in. >> not so remote that homes aren't threatened. more than 1600 structures could be affected. that's why at noon today they announced the all call for other agencies to send their available units. >> the biggest challenge for a while was the wind. we were experiencing some big pushes from the wind and some higher heat that was starting to build. >> san francisco fire sent 22 men in five engines headed to the ridge to protect the homes there.
