danger... flames race up-and-down hillsides and people raising to get out of danger as wildfires ripped through acres of california land. hh figure for the democrats step down the day before the party takes the national spotlight. we are hours away from the start of the democratic national convention and as delegates gathered there is fall out as emails show there is bias in top democratic officials. >> reporter: thousands of democrats including bernie sanders have arrived in philadelphia. there is already drama before

the gavel. dnc chair debbie wasserman schultz announced her resignation. it comes after an email scandal shows party leaders favored clinton in the primaries. >> nobody has to apologize to me. these emails reiterate the reason why she should not be chair. >> reporter: the email leaks show long-standing bitterness within the party. >> the dnc was tipping the scales for hillary clinton. >> reporter: first lady michelle obama will be here to address the crowd on monday evening. the theme is united together. that could be a tough sell for some sanders supporters who say they will not vote for clinton. >> we have 2000 reports of election fraud. those emails that were released prove it. >> reporter: another sign that issues need to be resolved if democrats want a unified party in november.

clinton and her running mate tim kaine talked about the email controversy during a joint interview on 60 minutes. they were asked if favoritism by the dnc was improper. >> i don't see a thumb on the scale to tip it one way or the other. these are public servants who are in it for the right reason. >> i am very grateful for the campaign that senator sanders ran because we ran a campaign based on issues not insults. i cannot speak to people who were not working for me who were saying what they were saying. i can only speak to my campaign. >> reporter: hillary clinton is getting the nod from new york mayor michael bloomberg. they say he will endorse clinton and speak at the convention. bloomberg is a former democrat turned republican turned independent. airlines with democrats on several issues including gun control and climate change.

now to the wildfires burning up-and-down the state. and one day they have doubled in size. crews are fighting and 11,000 acre fire near big sur. another fire has charred 33,000 acres near santa clarita. crews will be working overnight to keep the flames from spreading. >> this is by far the most intense affection of the fire. this is the southern section. these flames are going to be visible from the san fernando valley. we have been watching them creep up the ridge line. >> people are rushing to get out of the fires. the reporter caught up with some of them. >> reporter: these families are packing up and moving out. while the sky behind them

listen to the recording of the radio as the oakland sergeant inside her car tells the dispatcher someone has walked up and began firing shots. >> i just got shot at. >> reporter: who was shooting at the officer? that is not clear. it appears to be unrelated to the traffic issue. no bullets connected and the show didn't did not get shot but she was hospitalized. >> i heard the audio. >> reporter: the president of the police union said the sergeant will be okay. he is proud about how she and other responding officers kept their poise in a shocking situation. >> this is a suspect taking an opportunity of an officer be a injured in a car accident to take a shot at them. this is unacceptable.

homicide in san jose this year. police are looking for the driver who hit a pedestrian in concord. chp said the person was lying in the road when somebody ran over them and kept going. it is not clear what a person was in the road. days after a deadly shooting in munich germany and other attack today. a man blew himself up and injured 12 people at a bar. police said the bomber had just been turned away from an open air music festival. he was a 27-year-old syrian. he was allowed to stay in germany because of the turmoil in his native country. his motive is unknown. people in munich on a victims of an attack to happen to days ago. 1500 lit candles and placed flowers outside the shopping center where a teenage gunman killed nine people on friday.
