for cover after reports of a shooting. live, this is kpix five news. >> chaos at a crowded mall and families running for cover after reports of a shooting. >> police say the situation is now settling down but there were reports of shots fired inside the mall about 2:30. shoppers ran screaming toward the doors, the mall was on lockdown as officers searched the area. witnesses say they heard gunshots followed buy pandemonium. >> we just heard about five or six shots go off and i had my wife and my two young children and my daughters too and my son who's two months old and i grabbed the stroller and my wife and we ran out and as we

ran out we heard more shots and we were probably 10 or 15 feet away from the shooter. >> fortunately no one was injured.police have not made any arrests in connection with the shooting. a developing story in queens new york. a man and his assistant were shot to death as they walked home from a mosque. witnesses say the gunman shot both men in the head and ran off . no word on what led to the shooting. in san francisco this 100- pound tree branch came crashing down on a mother who was watching her two daughters play. it happened at the playground and washington square park. emily turner found out the fine -- emily turner found out what the city is doing to make the city state -- safe. >>reporter: the playground is back open which for some is worrisome. kathy and her triplets spent

sunday on the playground because they did not know what happened. >> if i was an adult from a critical condition am a limb, what would've happened to a child. >> it fell from 50 feet up cracking her skull as she watched her 5-year-old and 9- year-old daughters play. she had surgery last night and remains in critical condition. the condition of the tree is in question. >> the tree has good moisture content and the wood is very healthy. with that we are taking a look at everything else we can find out since it occurredin the investigation is ongoing. >>reporter: they assessed the pine in 2008 and updated it in 2010. two years ago friends of the park they do have several limbs trimmed. this week park will go out and reinspect the trees to make sure there are no other problems. in the meantime the propped -- the park is open looking for -- making folks look out for their

at least, when it comes to parking. kpix 5's maria meda shows us: a problem that's forced some people to walk r blocks... may soon be solved. a group of churchgoers in san francisco make it their prayers answered when it comes to parking. kpix maria medina shows us what the problem is. >>reporter: it is a double standard in double parking. the parking cops have looked the other way for years allowing worshipers in the crowded mission district to illegally park in the median on several streets so they can attend sunday services. >> currently they are not allowed to park on the median but the parking has happened for many years. >> churchgoers began complaining. even they could not find places where some believe -- sunbathers realize that they can get away with it too.

>> we continue to park up the street. we move on to the next block and next block and basically create a one lane where there used to be two lane. >> a lot of parking is happening with people going to the park and local businesses. >> a lot of people began pump -- complaining the city need to step up enforcement to help clear the congestion. >> it is clear a lot of people do not like the practice for a number of reasons. >> now the municipal transportation agencies board of directors is ready to try to resolve the issue dubbed parking for god. on tuesday they vote on whether to move forward with the 12 month pilot program that would clarify a time it is okay for meeting street parking. it just may resolve a double parking dilemma without any divine intervention. the city says because there are fewer parking control officers on the weekend and decided to turn a blind eye on the median parking issue so

has been unwinding with louisiana continuing to get soaked. our own little problem is exacerbated by the fire south of carmel bringing some of the smoke into the east bay. unhelpful levels of particulates in the air. it's another spare the air day. conquered 95. plenty warm in the east bay where morse got 96 in the city. cool in the low 60s affect everyone cools off. we shave a little bit off the top temperatures and bring it back into the low 90s instead of the upper 90s which is where they are at right now. the low pressure drop will deepen the marine layer. you can see plenty of low clouds in often -- often for 7:00 a.m. as the day goes on low clouds peel back and leave us with a sunny day. to sum it up fog and low clouds by the shore. the cool off a bit tomorrow in the pattern persists all week. it is summertime so it should.
