there was an accident. i'm totally numb. i'm just numb. my whole body is just numb. >> reporter: charles and tina are trying to stay strong for their family. this is what's left of their daughter's car, crushed, hit by a suspected dui driver last night on i-680 near the bollinger canyon exit. the impact killed their 3-year- old grandson, elijah dunn. >> he was such a sweet, sweet little boy. and i can't help but picture his face when he kissed me goodbye yesterday with that smile and gave me a big, giant hug. that's all that i have going in my head right now, not knowing that that's going to be the last time you see your baby. >> i'm holding back my tears right now. my grandson would have been 4 in two weeks. >> reporter: instead of celebrating his birthday, they're now planning his funeral. they share these facebook

photos with us. they say their daughter, crystal, left their sunnyvale home to drive back to her san ramon house. her three kids were in the car. >> ran out of gas. she pulled all the way over to the right side of the shoulder of the road, all the way against the road there. >> reporter: the chp says that's when 39-year-old yarenit liliana malihan of pleasanton slammed into the parked car. she was arrested for driving under the influence and gross vehicular manslaughter. she's the wife of a sheriff's deputy. >> are you a sheriff's deputy? >> yes. >> is yarenit your wife? >> yes. >> do you have any thoughts? >> no. >> she's in stable condition with a broken bone in her back and six broken ribs. her two other kids in the car had minor injuries and have since been released from oakland children's hospital. so the entire family is here at john muir hospital supporting

crystal right now. at 6:00 charles has a message for the driver. we'll have that for you coming up at 6:00. for now, live, kpix 5 news. >> thank you. a bicyclist died in a crash around 11:00 this morning on east side road. chp says a 55-year-old woman was riding with a friend when a pickup truck trying to pass someone suddenly barreled toward her. now, it's still unclear if the truck actually hit her or she died from the fall. the chp is investigating. a police training program called urban shield is going on this weekend in east bay. it's a chance for first respond tories improve how they handle situations where people's lives are in danger. jackie ward is outside san lorenzo high school where they focused on tactics for dealing with an active shooter. that had to be a scary scenario there, jackie? >> reporter: it absolutely was, julie. this is a small part of what's an intense 48 hours for both

responders and volunteers. alameda county sheriff's deputies tell me this scenario is very realistic because it happened just nine months ago. >> hands up, hands up. >> this is a well s.w.a.t. team but the victim are volunteers and the blood is fake. these are high school students interested in pursuing careers in law enforcement. >> it kind of helps them learn from the little mistakes they make. i think it's fun also. >> reporter: responders need to quickly evaluate who is injured, who can still move around, figure out how to safely handle the explosive device and track down the suspect. >> managing all four of those at the same time and making sure everyone is doing so safely in a sound way, that can be a real challenge. >> reporter: completing these missions isn't about speed. it's about efficiency. >> if you don't train for it, you're not going to have a clue. and you're getting all these teams getting this extra training to hopefully save

somebody's life or keep a life from being taken one day. >> reporter: just because this happened in real life, officers studied how emergency responders handle the situation, doesn't make it any easier. >> we look at those as they come up and study them so we can have a sense of how to best respond. but in this incident, you just take it as it comes and evaluate your tactics that you use and your team and see how it goes from there. >> reporter: san bernardino county responders are in the bay area this weekend and they'll have to face this very active shooter scenario on monday morning. in san lorenzo, jackie ward, kpix 5. hinckley has been released from custody for the last time. john hinckley has been in a hospital since shooting president reagan 35 years ago. a judge ruled he's no long area threat and was released to live with his mother. he will have to comply with several restrictions involving work, mental health, counseling

and travel. it was a quiet day on the 2016 campaign trail, but both candidates are talking about a comment hillary clinton made last night. reporter wendy gillette on what prompted an apology. >> reporter: she regrets remarks she made about donald trump supporters friday night. >> you could put half of trump'ssupporters into what i call the basket of deploreables. >> reporter: clinton released a statement that says last night i was grossly generallyistic and that's never a good idea. i regret saying half. that was wrong. she added many of trump's supporters are hard-working americans. trump tweeted, wow, hillary clinton was so insulting to my supporters. millions of amazing, hard- working people. i think it will cost her at the polls. the republican national committee said clinton's comments showed her condescension and disrespect. clinton held one private fund- raiser outside new york city saturday. 15 people paid at least $1,000

each to attend. clinton will be here in manhattan sunday to mark the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. >> reporter: trump spent a somber saturday at a funeral, a friend and supporter phyllis schlafly in st. louis. the 92-year-old died monday. she was a conservative activist, lawyer and author who opposed communism, abortion and the equal rights amendment over the course of her life. >> phyllis was there for me when it was not at all fashionable. trust me. >> reporter: trump has no other scheduled public events until monday. wendy gillette for cbs news, new york. >> trump's running mate, mike pence, also criticized hillary clinton saying trump supporters are not a basket of anything and deserve clinton's respect. it's been nearly 15 years since the 9/11 attacks but the pentagon is the only site without a visitors center. more on the push to change that. the zika virus driving away business in parts of florida.

memorial at the pentagon today. tomorrow marks 15 years since the attacks. pence and his wife laid a bouquet of white roses a mike pence visited the 9/11 memorial at the pentagon today. tomorrow marks 15 years since the attack. he and his wife laid a bouquet at the portion honoring a general. the indiana native was the highest ranging military official who -- ranking military official who died on 9/11. the pentagon site is the only one that doesn't have a visitors center to learn about what happened. now relatives of victims are trying to change that. >> reporter: they can't believe a day has passed since september 11, 2001, yet alone 15 years. >> it seems so fresh to me.

i remember those memories of the day, you know, like it was yesterday. >> reporter: he was 9 years old when terrorists crashed a plane into the pentagon, killing his father, david. >> as a country, you know, it's kind of getting to the time where time may have healed those wounds. for me, time doesn't really move the same way. >> reporter: we met him at the pentagon memorial, a place he visits often, specifically this sculpture with his dad's name inscribed in it. there are 184 benches in all representing the lives lost during the attack here. >> we have to learn from history so it doesn't repeat itself. >> reporter: the pentagon is the only 9/11 attack site that does not have a visitors center for museum to help people understand what happened. there is a plan in the works to build one on this lot next to the memorial. but right now, there's not enough money. >> anybody can help. >> reporter: zack's uncle works with the pentagon memorial fund.

more than 850 people remain in depend on tourism in miami.. want federal health officials to lift an advisory soon. an update on the zika virus. business owners that depend on tourism in miami want federal health officials to lift an advisory soon. the miami herald says they may lift that advisory for the winwood neighborhood in as soon as 9 days. currently it's warning pregnant women to avoid that area as well as parts of miami beach and their partners. business owners worry if the warnings continue it could seriously impact tourism. the woman kissed by a sailor in times square has died. a life magazine photographer captured the moment. it was august 14, 1945 right after japan surrender, ending world war ii. it game one of the most famous pictures of the 20th century. the woman, was 21 when the photo was taken. she died on thursday at the age of 92. here in the bay area dozens of families in east palo alto

are being evicted but it's not the landlords who want them out. >> reporter: the crackdown has been taking place over the past several months as city mired code enforcement officers. now some city council members are asking has it gone too far. east palo alto is bursting at the seams with city officials saying people living illegally in garages, trailers, sheds and cottages. they force those to live there to leave within ten days. some people pushed back at a recent city council meeting. >> we cannot let these keep on going and leave people in the street. >> reporter: community members say the city's crack down on illegal second units has made an already bad housing situation even worse. and they are now asking the city to put a moratorium on the evictions. >> i'm asking all of you, the five of you, to put a moratorium on the situation of the second units. >> reporter: city officials

lovers wait all year for, the annual ghiradelli chocolate festival. 50 vendors, two day event continues tomorrow and benefits project open hand. no chocolate for these world-class athletes. take a look. they're contestants in the first ever world dog surfing championship. the event held today in pacifica featured a handful of contenders. proceeds went to muttville and the humane society. notice those dogs wearing wet suits. it was a little chilly in the water today. great day for dog surfing. some of the fog rolled back in now into the bay. i just had a clear view of this picture and the fog rolled in as we were waiting for this shot. let's go ahead and take a look at current temperatures right now. temperatures in the 80s in

places like concord and livermore. san francisco only 61. 71 in santa rosa at this hour. as we make our way through the evening hours, temperatures will get down into the 50s pretty much area wide. our relatively mild evening, those clouds will begin to move inland. once again the last couple of days we've seen those coastal clouds making their way inland starting off with a low cloud much of the bay area in the inland areas. we will see that once again tomorrow. futurecast shows by the afternoon they pull back to the coast. i think we will see a little more cloud cover in the city and portions of the north bay as well. overall most will see sunshine, though you will notice temperatures significantly cooler. it's this area of low pressure that brought our temperatures down significantly between wednesday and thursday. we've stayed in that general range over the last couple of days but we are about to get even cooler as we head into the work week. we see an area of low pressure singing in from the -- sinking in from the north and it will bring a cooler air mass and that will drop temperatures

only in the 70s for the warmest locations by early this week. tomorrow we will still see 80s out there. some of the warmer spots, walnut creek getting into the low 80s. many spots only hitting the upper 70s. san jose, mountain view. 62 pacifica. 74 santa rosa tomorrow. 65 in oakland. certainly on the cool side. here's what to expect as we move through the next few days. overnight tonight, clouds, fog developing once again. cooler sunday than saturday, but we will see sunshine for most by the afternoon hours tomorrow. and then cooler still next week as we bring those temperatures down. looking for something to do tomorrow? how about opera in the park? sunday golden gate park, partly cloudy, 62 degrees for that event. art and wine festival this weekend in mountain view, sunshine and 75 degrees there. the festival this weekend, plenty of sunshine inland tomorrow. 76 degrees for you there. how about a little sumo. sumo festival in san francisco

vern glen to cover the raiders kick off the season in the big easy, and we sent vern glenn to cover the game. unfortunately his trip to new orleans has been far from easy. vern joins us to tell us about a slight detour. >> reporter: hey, andrea, this is a first. i'm not coming to you from new orleans. i'm coming to you from a united flight in san antonio. we've been diverted. it's been refueling and weather delays. it's been one thing after the other. so i'm visiting with you now talking about raiders and the saints. new orleans is where it all started for head coach jack del rio who shared a nice memory as a saints rookie. >> i remember spiking the ball so hard after i scored a touchdown that i fell down. all right? it was a great moment, and then

starts for the 49ers. according to reports davis sat out last season is considering retiring again. he is listed as questionable for noninjury reasons for monday night's game against the rams. davis was a 49ers starting right tackle but when he left brown took over the spot and beat out davis for the job this camp. brown has the attention of broncos linebacker von miller, the super bowl mvp last february. the league superstar said the 49ers second year tackle was his toughest opponent. a comment that seemed out of left field, even to brown. >> my eyes were big. i was like, dang, what he just said. >> i feel like trent brown has a very bright future in the national football league. not many guys like von miller. >> people haven't really seen him, but i feel like he's one of the better tackles in the national football league. >> i didn't know what to do. i was speechless. >> that is kind of cool. central michigan trailing by 3 and college football was given
