wrapped up moments ago at the frank ogawa plaza. >> reporter: now that the 19- year-old is back in the bay area some of the criminal prosecutions can go forward. we may be seeing more indictments in other counties. we are talking about the woman you might remember as celeste guap. she is now using her legal name of jasmine abuslin. she did not make an appearance at today's news conference but she just returned from rehab and a stint in jail in florida. she says that she had sex with about 30 officers from different bay area departments some for money and some when she was under aged. two officers are facing charges of oral copulation when she was a minor. her lawyers say that her exploitation began at age 12 and what happened over the last several years should scare us all. >> when a young girl is running away from a pimp on the street or trying to flee a life of

exploitation and violence and fear, she has to know that when she goes to a police officer, that he is not going to take her to the back of the police car, that he is not gonna take her to a room, that he is not going to tell her about his buddy who is interested in having sex with her! >> reporter: the lawyer also blasted the richmond police department for sending jasmine to florida for rehab saying it was part of a cover-up saying she was brought there under false pretenses. we'll talk about that in a minute. there are five police departments, oakland, richmond, san francisco, stockton, livermore, as well as the alameda county sheriff's office and the contra costa county sheriff's office involved. some of this alleged sex happened in contra costa county. the only charges we have seen so far have come from alameda county but lawyers here say that they are working now with

prosecutorrers in contra costa county. -- prosecutors in contra costa county. we may see more charges. i want to take you to her rehab in florida. her lawyer says she didn't have a drug problem and they say she had gone involuntarily she thought and she thought she could leave voluntarily. so when the criminal charges came into play is when she bit an employee of the rehab facility. she says she was trying to leave the rehab facility on her own accord and that the employees tried to inject her with something and that is when she allegedly bit this employee. basically, the lawyer is really painting a picture of a much more "innocent" woman than one that we have, um, come to see through all of the allegations involved in this scandalous case. live in oakland, anne makevoc, kpix 5. new at noon, a man is now in custody in connection with a home invasion and beating of an elderly woman in santa clara county. kpix 5's maria medina reports

from san jose with the latest. >> reporter: kenny, this was a brutal beating of an elderly woman. there were so many people in fear, there was actually an emergency meeting planned with the community later tonight. many wondered would anyone be caught? today they got their answer. this is the man who investigators say was behind a home invasion robbery in the east foothills this week. his name is zachary cue and he is just 19 years old. he was arrested in san jose last night. now, deputies say he beat an 88- year-old woman leaving her in critical condition with face and head trauma. she was known as flo in her neighborhood and, in fact, it was neighbors who found her and called 911. she was able to tell deputies that two men attacked her. they stole the jewelry that she was wearing. they ransacked her home before taking her car. so as far as a second suspect, is there another man on the run? are deputies looking for another man? that's one of the many questions we felt the sheriff's office holding a press

conference right now and we hope to bring you those answers later on today on kpix 5 and on our website. live in san jose, maria medina, kpix 5. a home in menlo park is now red-tagged after a raid by police and an fbi s.w.a.t. team. police say the home was searched in connection with a case involving firearms and criminal street gangs. several people in the home were detained, all but one later released. the homeowner described the early-morning raid. >> you know, i'm sleeping, like, 3 in the morning the people come and broke all the windows in my house so we like scare everybody so my kids start, like, um crying so we like put -- planting bombs in my house. >> police say during the search, they also discovered illegal and hazardous renovations inside the home which is now deemed unsafe to live in. to the race for the white house, hillary clinton is back on the campaign trail today for

the first time since her health scare. and donald trump is revealing details about his health. craig boswell has more from the white house. >> reporter: hillary clinton russia to the campaign trail -- returns to the campaign trail today with a rally in greensboro, north carolina. it's her first appearance after a three-day rest. >> i'm glad i did finally follow my doctor's orders and take some days to rest instead of just keep powering through which i think, um, a common experience for people. >> reporter: the latest cbs news poll shows clinton with a two-point lead over donald trump in a four-way race with third party candidates. she still has a big advantage among women, 13 points. and an 8 3-point advantage among black voters while trump leads by 11 points among men and white voters. trump is talking about his own health today on a syndicated health talk show and his campaign made public a one-page summary. the paper offers some

information about trump's physical condition and a swipe at clinton's health, the campaign shows mr. trump is in excellent health. last night, in ohio, the republican nominee questioned his rival's stamina. >> in this beautiful rooms that's 122 degrees, do you think hillary would be able to stand up here for an hour and do this? >> no! boo! >> reporter: today trump addressed an economic club in new york and has a rally tonight in new hampshire. craig boswell, cbs news. the white house. >> clinton says her campaign will release more of her health information in the coming days. today a bipartisan group of u.s. lawmakers is unveiling new legislation to help prevent parents from leaving kids in hot cars. it's a problem that's already led to 29 deaths this year. the hot cars act of 2016 will require automakers to install technology that alerts the driver getting out of the car a

passenger remains in the rear seat. tropical storm julia is now downgraded it a depression. the storm moved offshore after dumping record rainfall in parts of georgia. it is now threatening floods along the coast. you see sandbags on standby outside one store in downtown charleston, south carolina. there's still another 2.5 months to go until the end of hurricane season. a suspect is in custody accused of setting a mosque on fire in florida. he faces first degree felony charges. it was previously attended by the orlando nightclub shooter. at this point no motive. police are conducting a hazing investigation that's led to the arrest of three high school football players in merced county. police are releasing no details about what happened including the number of victims. but they say that at least one

incident took place at the town's namesake high school after a practice session last week. more arrests are possible. the high school football program has long been considered one of the most successful in california. it's a case that captivated the nation and now 20 years later an old and new are reexamining the murder of jonbenet ramsey. i spoke with the producers of a new cbs dock cue series that delves into the case. is anything new revealed in this documentary? >> absolutely. we put together a team of experts world-renowned experts and we went through the old existing evidence but we also did new tests, we applied new technologies and new ways of analyzing materials and interpreting evidence, and we certainly were able to talk to people who had never spoken before to any investigators or to the public. and because of that, we are able to put a comprehensive theory together that explains

an emergency landing. it left new york's jfk international airport yesterday bound for san francisco. but about an hour and a half into the flight, an engine issue forced the pilot to land in columbus, ohio. 125 passengers and crew were on board. they switched planes and landed at sfo around 2 a.m. a live look from wall street now. the dow is up about 195 points. energy stocks have been climbing along with the price of crude oil and apple is leading a big gain in the tech sector. the university of san francisco women's basketball coach is stepping downed. former stanford star jennifer hazy is resigning after 6 seasons. she says that she feels she has accomplished her goal of building a championship caliber. she is expecting the birth of her first child in february. a lot of college students that best to get along with roommates but one ucla freshman

is starting off on the wrong foot. hena daniels on her list of demands for the roommates she hasn't even met yet. >> reporter: it was a demanding email reportedly from an incoming ucla student to her student-to-be roommates who posted it on twitter and instagram. it reads in part, i do not want the single bunk where it has a desk underneath the top bunk. so don't try to leave me with that. she also let them know, i'm taking one of the white closets. plenty of incoming ucla freshmen were surprised about the email. >> kind of harsh. >> reporter: the email goes on to say, i want the desk that's near the window. plain and simple. i don't care who gets the bottom bunk. student kathy hahn also a freshman was taken aback. >> she is a freshman, right? i just thought, like, like, coming in you want to have the best relationship with your roommates. >> reporter: the email was sent two days after the student sent another but got no response from her future roommates. ucla says they are aware of the

alcatraz, can't see angel island, tiburon or sausalito. it's stacked up next to the seashore, the fog. 60 in san francisco. 70 in santa rosa after bottoming out early this morning at 47 degrees. the winds have been increasing and kind of fluctuating all over the place west-northwest 17, sfo. 15 san francisco. west-northwest at 7 in san ramon. and slighter winds to the north bay. lindsay patton is one of our weather watchers, good morning to you, sir, he says it's a dreary day along the coastside in pacifica. still into the 50s. this is why. satellite-radar suggests we have a deepening marine layer hanging tight to the coast that moved into the bay and surged inland this morning 40 miles, has retreated, going to take a while until we see that mixing at the beaches. so some partial sunshine there. otherwise, sunny and mild around the bay, warmer weather today in our inland areas. so you probably feel the difference away from the bay.

here's our satellite-radar does indicate this ridge of high pressure slowly building into the west coast. it will return us more to the northerly flow and northwest today. but as it does so, it's warming up the atmosphere so we have those temperatures on the increase inland. today 86 in sacramento. up from 82 yesterday. 69 in the high sierra. 64 monterey bay. it is currently in the 70s going up to 88 degrees in fresno. our numbers are still well below average away from the bay. we should be around 87 in the livermore area and instead, 82. warmer today in fairfield. 78 in san jose. but that's down from 83. 7:17 is sunset. when it does, you're going to start to see the makings of a full moon out there. it will be full tomorrow night when it's a harvest moon. we do have warmer weather for the last weekend of summer 2016. baseball game tonight make sure you dress in layers, temperatures low 60s, tumbling into the 50s. giants playing host to the cards. you'll be able to see that moon out there at the baseball game. and by the way, it's the last lunar eclipse of the year.

school seniors is proficient in geography. a south bay teenager decided should show only one in five american high school seniors is proficient in geography. a south bay teen decided to do something about that. sharon chin explains how that makes him this week's bay area jefferson award winner >> there is a measure of the country's economic prosperity. >> the gross domestic product, this value is a measure of the country's economic prosperity. >> reporter: arvind sridhar leads a weekly after school class at sacred heart nativity in san jose. >> i really realized how important it is in a world to be geo-literate and know about different places and issues. let's go to the great wall of china next. >> reporter: the senior at bellarmine college prep founded the nonprofit "geography for tomorrow" to teach geography to under served children for free. today he uses virtual reality cardboard boxes from google map to bring the world up close. >> oh!! >> reporter: arvind started "geography for tomorrow" three years ago after doing a community service project at

another school. he discovered that the fourth graders didn't know the capital of canada. >> i knew that maybe i could use my passion and my knowledge of this field in order to empower these youth. >> reporter: with the help of 70-plus volunteers, arvind has taught geography to more than 200 students in south and east bay schools like this 8th grader. >> i know what goes on in the outside world, so next time when i'm older i can actually go beyond that. >> reporter: arvind's teaching tools include games, atlases and even a giant map from organizations like national geographic. the 17-year-old developed his own curriculum. principal lorraine shepherd is impressed. >> when arvind sent me his lesson plan i was blown away. i thought i was looking at lesson plans of a seasoned teacher. >> reporter: this year arvind expanded beyond the classroom to host a geography bee at a san jose middle school and organized geo day for kids and families at a community center. >> and the population is dense.
