national anthem at more than n-f-l games. how he's taking his message to an live, from the cbs bay area studios, this is kpix 5 news. colin kaepernick is protesting the national anthem as more than nfl games. how he's taking his message to an east bay high school. >> i've decided that we're at a stage where i can release additional information. >> charlotte police have released more videos from this week's deadly shooting of kate scott. good evening. >> we begin with a developing story going on now in san francisco. evacuations are under way near civic center plaza after reports of an armed man. police blocked off traffic in the area. an officer saw a man with a weapon earlier today. police say he has threatened suicide in the past. right now negotiators are on the scene talking with him. we have breaking news out

of charlotte. the police department has just released the dash cam and body cam video of officers killing keith scott. the shooting has led to several days of protests. reporter kenneth craig shows us what the officers cameras recorded. >> reporter: charlotte's police chief released dash cam and body camera video recorded during tuesday's fatal shooting of keith lamont scott. >> in the spirit of transparency, you're going to get everything that we can deliver, facts, footage, and an explanation of where we stand today relative to the investigation. >> chief kerr putney said officers were attempting to arrest someone else when they saw scott with marijuana and a gun. >> yes, from the totality of what we see, he absolutely was in possession of a handgun. >> but the chief says the video released saturday does not show scott pointing a gun. [ gun shots ] officers shot scott after police say he

refused to drop the weapon. >> don't shoot him. don't shoot him. he has no weapon. >> but scott's wife who recorded her own video on cell phone said her husband was not armed and posed no threat. the police chief told reporters here he decided to release the department footage after state officials said it would not interfere with their investigation. hundreds of protesters demonstrated for a fifth day demanding to see the video for themselves. >> we need to hear and see everything. >> charlotte remains under a state of emergency. a city wide curfew takes effect at midnight. kenneth craig, cbs news charlotte. colin kaepernick takes his message against police violence to a new audience. he met with some bay area high school football players before their game. kpix jackie ward with what he told the teenagers. >> this is the tweet that got colin kaepernick's attention.

>> so why don't we make a stand and make some noise and tell them that we got his back by doing the same thing we did. >> it was a statement head coach edward washington supported. >> the player took the lead. and i was following right behind him. >> the 49ers quarterback wanted to show that he appreciated the gesture and decided to visit the team. kaepernick told the team to keep doing what they were doing and to keep standing up for what they believe in. >> it's kind of surreal. but at the same time, you have to have, you know, keep focused for the game. because it was game day. >> that's when the team decided to take their saturday night protest to the next level. at last night's game at home, the players lay down on the ground with their hands up. >> it's basically showing our vulnerability from them being the authority and the power and us being the citizens. >> to the castlemont coaches

and staff, their job is more than just winning. >> football is the last thing we're doing here. we're teachers and trainers. we're teaching and training them for life. football is only what you do. >> coaches from across the country have reached out to applaud the team too. which continues to generate the broader conversation of social change. >> so we can just run with it and hope for things to change. but we're trying to make that change. i feel it's coming. >> this isn't the last time colin kaepernick will be here at castlemont high school. he has another date set for the future. the media is not being told what that date is. a man hunt continues in washington state for a gunman who killed five people at a mall. the shooting happened last night in burlington about 60 miles north of seattle. a man opened fire at the makeup counter inside a macy's department show killing four women and a man. surveillance video captured the suspect going into the mall unarmed and entering macy's ten minutes later with a rifle.

police say he acted alone and they don't know why he did it. >> i don't know what his motivations was to do this. i don't know what his motivations was to continue. i don't know what his motivations was to stop. >> this was a senseless act. it was the world knocking on our doorstep. and it came to our community here. >> the fbi is helping with the search. >> all right. back in the bay area the regions air quality management district issued a spare the air alert for tomorrow. air quality is expected to be in the unhealthy range because of strong high pressure trapping pollutants near the surface. fire departments are increasing staffing because of the weather. which will turn hotter tomorrow. the national weather service issued a red flag warning due to gusty dry winds. because of massive dome of high pressure that's been out to the pacific now. offshore winds will keep us warm to hot. not so bad today. concord reaching 92 so far.

temps will spike tomorrow and monday. there are those heat advisories posted for both days. as for how hot you'll get, forecast coming up in a few minutes. leading figures remembered rose pat today as one of a kind. they gathered at a funeral in china town to pay respects to the long time activists. kpix 5 was there. >> reporter: politics was her sport. as rose pack's funeral a gathering of local and state politicians. including the current and three former san francisco mayors. friends and foes came to old st. marys cathedral to pay their respects. >> she was biting and at the same time, she always had a sense of humor. you could never take her too seriously. so i'll remember a half dozen parades where she had some choice words for me. >> you want to share a couple of the choice words ?

african-american history and culture open a historic day in washington dc. the national museum of african american history and culture opened its stores for the first time today after a half century of planning. marley hall was there. with the ringing of the 130- year-old freedom bell, president obama officially dedicated the national museum of african american history and culture before a crowd of thousands on the national mall. >> it is an act of patriotism to understand where we've been. >> dignitaries and celebrities including oprah winfrey and will smith helped celebrate the historic occasion with poetry, speeches, and musical performances.

documents on its investigation of hillary clinton's private email server. the 200 pages of notes with gathered with interviews of clinton aids and supporters. one aid said a technical aid would think each device with clinton's server and then wipe her old phone. at the same time, donald trump is expected to bring jennifer flowers to monday night's presidential debate. it might remember former president bill clinton admitted to having a sexual relationship with flowers back when he ran for president for the first time in 1992. this comes after hillary clinton announced plans to put trump critic mark cuban in the front row of the debate. trump tweeted if dopey mark cuban wants to sit in the front row, maybe i'll put jennifer flowers alongside him. unregistered voters can register by text message. reporter julie watts shows us how it works.

day. we're going to begin where we left off a few minutes ago with a heat advisory posted for today, tomorrow, and monday, where temperatures warm up another 5 to 10 degrees tomorrow. it's going to be a warm one in the bay area to finish the weekend and start the workweek too. so let's cover it in due course. the entire bay area is under the influence of the heat advisory. coast in the 80s and 90s. good beach weather. inland highs in the 90s and low hundreds. stay hydrated. red flag warning until 3:00 tomorrow afternoon for the north bay mountains with gusty offshore winds, dry conditions, bad combo. as we look toward the bay bridge, a pleasant day under way in the bay area. 72 in san francisco now. not all that hot by east bay standards. in concord, 92. san francisco, 72. in san jose, 84. but the numbers will go north from there. tomorrow we'll be warming it up into the 100-degree range. the warmer spots inland. with offshore winds, it'll be

warm to hot. the winds shift to more offshore in the next 24 hours. highs hit 100 degrees inland tomorrow. the humidity is coming down. high pressure ridge sliding to the east. as it does, there's nothing left in sight in terms of low pressure areas. if i've made the point it will be sunny and hot through monday, i'll have done my job. heat advisory is up tomorrow and monday. the cooling, it's going to take a while. we'll have to wait until wednesday for things to come back down to the 80s inland. in the mean time, fog will be an absent guest at the pacific coast fog fest in pacifica. it will warm to 72 degrees at the same time martinez, flat out warm, 93 degrees for the bay area blues festival and the nostalgia day car show in livermore, near 100 degrees tomorrow for that. over night lows in the bay area, sun up tomorrow morning

at 7:01:00 a.m. 62 for san jose. and we'll be well above average tomorrow. 16 degrees above average for concord at 100. san jose 88. oakland 90 degrees. san francisco, 86. in is south bay, near 100 degrees in morgan hill. nice along the coast. 70s in pacifica and half-moon bay. the numbers will be -- this is one of those things where you expect it to be warmer inland than along the coast. but not with the offshore push. the coast gets almost as warm as it's going to be inland. 90 at sonoma. and 97 at santa rosa. same for petaluma. in the extended forecast, it's warming up tomorrow. and monday we maintain that heat until finally we begin to get a little bit of cooling as we head toward wednesday and the end of the weekend. but in the mean time, sun block, sun block, hydrate, elderly pets, thinking about
